Lol. I've heard variations on that number: 10,000, 12,000, 5,000, 6,000, and some in between. Must be one of those unsolvable mysteries. Maybe when Helix is released, the mystery will reveal itself. At least one of two things is certain, fossils are either a conspiracy or a test. To be fair though, it's not entirely uniquely American, but it's a good place to start.

Even normal talking for actors. I've often wondered how someone like Hugh Jackman can so easily, or maybe it's not easy, lose his Australian accent.

Careful now. Eventually this is going to turn into just a flesh wound. 'Tis but a scratch.

Ahh. Makes sense. Glad you got it working.

When you turn round is it humourous? When you turn around is it humorous?

I think it is a 3/16" allen wrench. If you bought the HD500 new it should have come with one. I occasionally have to very slightly tighten the resistance of the pedal. Not sure what you mean by volume burst.

Thanks for the link. That sort of historical detail is really interesting.

Aluminum or aluminium?

Nice video. I use med to maybe high gain I guess most of the time. DiMarzio Evolutions, has a nice thick, rich midrange. Maybe too much sometimes. I also have a guitar with a DiMarzio PAF Pro, VS-1, and Double Whammy. I like the PAF-Pro better than an Evolution in the neck spot. The VS-1 is really nice; creates that single coil bell-like tone. The Double Whammy is nothing to complain about, but nothing really stands out about it too much. I should actually play this guitar more than I do, which is never. Software attack? What's that? Where? Another thing affecting tone along the lines of pick choice and use is string distance from the pickups.

From the above videos description on youtube: The chip is ONLY manufactured by hifiic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321111754843?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Just another quick update: I tried getting my motherboard's audio (Realtek ALC1150) working in Windows 10 and Reaper 64-bit. I didn't do any really exhaustive tests, but everything seems to be working as it should and it's actually usable. I just used whatever Windows 10 installed after I enabled the onboard audio in the BIOS, plugged my headphones into the jack on the back of the computer, and the 1/4" left and right outputs from the HD500X to the line-in jack on the back of the computer. In Reaper I selected WASAPI for the audio system using exclusive mode, 512 samples, 24-bit, and 48KHz. So give your onboard audio a try, it might work. Unless it doesn't have any audio input, which seems strange if it doesn't.
-
I messed around a little with the WASAPI audio system in Reaper on Windows 7 just for defecations and grins, and it is actually quite usable. Surprised me a bit. I didn't use my motherboard's sound, but an add-in pci-e. It worked well with the digital out from the HD500X to a digital in on the soundcard, as well as the quarter inch outputs from the HD500X to an eighth-inch analog input. So perhaps trying your motherboard's sound might be worth it. The motherboard sound does have at least an analog input?
-
If it's integrated on the motherboard, then it's likely not worth it. It won't have any sort of ASIO drivers, although you could try some of the other available audio system options in Reaper (WDM, directsound, waveout, WASAPI) and take the quarter inch outputs from the HD500 into the soundcard input.

It could be something with the current Line 6 drivers, 4.2.7.1. Windows 10 is listed on Line 6's download page for these drivers, but have been around since July 2013, which means Windows 10 wasn't even a consideration when they were made. So I would imagine some more specific Win 10 drivers should be coming soon. It could also be something with Windows 10's audio system. If you have another audio interface with ASIO capability, external or internal sound card, you could try using that instead of the HD500.
-
There's something not right going on with the combination of Windows 10/Line 6 HD drivers. I just tried with Reaper 64-bit portable install and the only way I got it to work was changing the playback quality mentioned in this thread. The same exact hardware/software setup works fine in Windows 7. A suggestion might be to dump Windows 10 for the time being, until things like this get sorted out. The only good thing I've noticed about using POD HD, Windows 10, and Reaper is when you shut the POD off while Reaper is still open, it gracefully closes the driver and doesn't hard lock the entire system.

Apparently there is no official version of HD Edit for Windows 10 yet, so just install the one for Windows 7: HD Edit

Wouldn't using an extra interface nullify the advantages of Helix's 8in/8out USB?
-
Purposely limiting your options extends to other things as well. For any music writers here, how many options do you have when you first start writing a song? Just about limitless? As you progress, your options coalesce into fewer and fewer chunks. Even though Helix may have a staggering amount of ways to do things, it actually can seem small in this context. On the other hand it could seem like an amplifier for each option contained in the limitless bucket. So I would imagine that many of the options Helix has available can be ignored in you want?
-
Maybe it would be a factor, but I think four amps is just a happy, emergent property from the versatile design. Probably isn't practical from a DSP perspective. It gives Line 6 something to brag about. :)

Glad to help. If your pedal is having trouble staying, or even getting, at zero in the heel position, you could do it the opposite way and still use the EX-1. Have the toe down be normal pitch and heel down the dive-bombed; unless the EX-1 isn't accurate in the toe down position either.

Kind of along the same lines of spdif I/O flexibility: seeing that the usb is 8in/8out, is it possible to utilize these ins/outs in a studio setting by inserting a DAW plugin at a specific point in the signal path, and then another somewhere else, etc., of course limited by the number of ins/outs?

I think something like the attached patch is what you might want, hopefully. It assigns both the PG and Vol to exp2 and both to FS8 so that when the switch is toggled one goes off, the other on. Even though the patch was made on an HD500X, you should be able to just drag and drop it into an empty preset in HD500 Edit. PitchVol.zip

Vai and Satriani just showing of their chops? Really? Obviously music is entirely subjective, but to question the motives of two of the best world class guitarists out there as just showing off is really low.

I think you're right about them adding effects. The particular one I mentioned two posts above is already on ideascale: auto wah or...auto everyting Vote for it if you haven't already. It would be awesomely powerful and eliminate the need to add more specific effects in a lot of cases on a one by one basis.
