Since you've tried multiple cables and computers, chances are it's something with the unit. It's possible the plastic protrusion inside the USB port on the unit may be cracked or even entirely broken off, it's been know to happen. If it's new, try and return it to get a different one. Otherwise, the only other thing to do would be to open a Line 6 support ticket. Forgot, try downloading the flash file from Line 6's website and then flash that, rather than having Line 6 Monkey find the file online.

Just a guess, but one possibility could be that you have a volume pedal and wah assigned to the same EXP, of which there are two. I'm also guessing when you say volume increase, this happens when the pedal is more towards the toe position?

Thanks for the nice detailed response. I just realized we might be thinking of different things. I saw LoPro and assumed what was being talked about was a Lo Pro Edge, which is basically the same thing as an Edge, only it has a lower profile. When you break a bar, where does it break for you? Inside the arm holder, or where the bar is gripped when using it?

Hold down the view button to access the system menu and it's on page eleven of twelve.

I hope they release it when it's damn well and ready, not before. Whenever that might be. I do wonder why the rack version is four months after the floor version. That's a pretty long time.

I use 10s on an edge, and I've broken quite a few bars, including two of the newer carbon graphite bars. Would 9s really make much of a difference?

One thing you could try: After you get the HD500 working properly, load up your previously saved patches using HD Edit. Working with setlists might be easier. Once you have opened a setlist with HD Edit with the HD500 turned on, send it to the HD500. The names inside HD Edit should slowly become unitalicized and the asterisk should go away. If there is a problem with a specific patch, it could be that it won't get sent to the device and remain italicized with an asterisk. If this is the case, there's something weird with that patch.

For me, I think it was an influence from my parents when I was around eight years old. Something along the lines of pick an instrument, it will do you good. So I chose an acoustic guitar. But I can't be sure because I don't seem able to remember that far back. As I got to 10 or 11, now I switched to electric and it seemed to grow more on me because it was cool at the time and I really liked it. Metal type stuff. I remember playing Paranoid and Iron Man in the sixth grade gymnasium with my first band. Took lessons at a small local music store for many years. I especially liked playing the guitar while stoned and outside in the backyard through a cranked Peavey 2x12 amp and bugging the crap out of the neighbors. So I guess it was an evolution of hanging out with the wrong crowd of people, the type of music, and starting at an early age that attracted me - and never let go - to the guitar.

How does the Mission Engineering EP1-L6 pedal work with the Helix? Are there any other pedals from other companies that work well with Helix that you know of?

What's the shortest time someone had theirs on? I have mine plugged into a power strip with a switch, and while reaching to turn it on, my wobbly chair wobbled, made my finger hit the switch. The chair wobbled again, forcing my finger to hit the switch again. All this took 392ms.

Controlling both pitch glider and volume with exp-pedal?
duncann replied to Onomatopoeia's topic in POD HD
Another way to do this is assign both the volume and pitch glide to EXP1, and also assign a footswitch to the pitch glide to toggle it.- 4 replies

Awesome. Thanks.

Ok. Thanks. Sounds simple. And no big deal if there isn't any way to save the settings. It's probably ten times harder to reset a computer's bios nowadays.
-
It seems there is going to be a lot of functionality with configurable settings. In the event of a firmware update or system reset, will the settings need to be reinitialized, and if so, will there be a way to save all of these settings and have them loaded back in one shot? Or must this be done manually?

I like how you keep all the amp controls lined up at zero. I do the same. LOL. But the mid looks out of sync.
-
LOL. That looks a little too symmetrical. I hope it's just coincidence that that's Helix shaped!
-
The odd thing is this video isn't even strictly for the Helix. Nice video though.

Heh. At least urinating in empty drink glasses (was there anyone who mistakenly took these cocktails as actual drinks?) wouldn't be quite as bad as taking the name of the game literally.

You bring up a good point. It's also something that I think is completely subjective. No two brains process the outside world in exactly the same way. It's one of those things that we won't know until, as you say, we get our grubby hands on it. And it's certainly important for people to try and describe, both in words and musically (music is a language too), how it feels to play any given tone from the Helix. I'll disagree on the last point. Even the tone by itself (assuming you could somehow separate touch dynamics from tone), and even if the tone sucks, adds to feeling. If I have a nice, smooth, luscious, perfectly balanced tone to play with regardless of 'touch feel', it's going to inspire me and change the way I play, likely for the better. If I have a tone that's flabby, nasally, and dead, it might be one of those days to set the guitar down after ten minutes because it just doesn't feel right. Or, turn the sucky feel from a sucky tone around and try and write music that exploits those undesirable qualities into something musically not sucky. Either way, feeling is the underlying component.

Having to deal with the general public really does suck most times, especially when money is involved. It's a good test for measuring a person's patience. Hey, at least you know you don't like it now.

You're not the only one. It's actually borderline nauseating. LOL. Maybe the Plexi amp is supposed to sound like it does in these videos, but the low end mush is really terrible. I mean if someone wants to fart with their guitar, there's probably better ways. Let's hear some good Vai/Satch lead tones. Not worried too much though about how the amp models will sound. I'm sure they'll be good, certainly better than the HD, which is good enough for most things. Of more concern is what the effects list is going to look like.

When I was a teenager, I worked with dealing with cusstomers on a daily basis. The place was such that most of the employees could get away with just about anything, so sometimes I would just cuss back at them. That usually shut them up quickly, and they would walk away rather disgusted. Other times we would use the customers as the focus for gutter type humor, such as farting or conducting belching contests over the phone system's intercom. It was fcking hilarious.

Try building the patch in a different patch location. Try doing a global reset (hold down the left arrow while powering on), followed by a pedal recalibration (right arrow while powering on). If that doesn't do anything, backup all your custom patches, and reflash the firmware without keeping your custom patches when the process asks you. After the reflash, do a global reset, then a pedal calibration. Now try and build the treadplate/smart harmony patch.
-
Sure can. I was able to have two treadplates and three smart hamonies. DSP limit reached when trying to add a fourth. The HD500 should be able to run at least one treadplate and one smart harmony. Something things wrong if you can't.

The closest you can get to a step on to engage type of wah would be assigning the mix and position parameters to the expression pedal. For example, I find that the vetta wah works well with a mix of 24 to 100 and a position of 0 to 100. So when the expression pedal is in the heel position, the wah is more or less bypassed. It should work by assigning the wah to one exp and the volume to the other, so that when the pedal switch is engaged, the wah turns on and the volume off, and the other way around. Not sure what's happening here. I don't use a volume control, so that simplifies things. Another way to turn the wah off is assigning it to a footswitch.
