Which is all wonderful...but about as likely as waking up tomorrow morning with your head sewn to the pillow.
-
Nope...it's one or the other.

Lmao... Sure, and after that, I'm going vegan, giving up beer, getting in touch with my feminine side...then we can all meet up here at half-past impossible. ;)

You're grasping at straws, man. Rearranging furniture isn't gonna solve the problem of thin condo walls. The low end frequencies and their nice looooooooong wavelengths are difficult to attenuate. They plow through everything. I guarantee that's what your neighbors are hearing...and they ain't gonna be stopped by a couch, pointing the amp at the North Star, or surrounding it with a pillow fort. Headphones...or the aforementioned small JBL studio monitors (or something comparable) are the answer(s) you're looking for. I have that very pair, and they sound quite good at comfy, non-window rattling levels. But even those I won't use if I'm playing at 2am...

As an apartment dweller myself, believe me when I say that you have but one solution: good headphones. Minus a whole lot of soundproofing, there's little you're gonna be able to do to keep from driving your neighbors insane, I don't care where you point the thing...unless you're willing to settle for average TV watching volume, which tends to be somewhat less than satisfying. Melt the walls at the rehearsal studio...;)

Which of course begs the question, which is worse? The go nowhere, accomplish nothing, "if Helix is played in a forest" threads, or the "I've been waiting for new firmware for 6 months, and all I get is THIS?!?!" threads...we'll be drowning in the latter in another couple of weeks.
-
Now you're catching on...;) That interpretation is about as useful as anything else that's come out of this thread, lol. Yes, commercially available patches exist. No, I don't want any. I also don't want lima beans, benzene, or dredging equipment....so I don't buy those things either. Problem solved...but there will always be those who are determined to be offended, merely because certain things exist, even if it doesn't impact their daily life in any measurable way.

Well technically he's not "wrong", trouble is he's not "right" either...it's semantics. They don't make necks SPECIFICALLY for Variax guitars. They make officialy licensed Fender Strat replacement necks (among other things). It just so happens that the heel and pocket dimensions are identical. So either he's simply unfamiliar with the JTV's, or he was going out of his way to not be helpful. It's a coin toss...either possibility is equally likely as far as I'm concerned. But no matter...don't listen to him, for he knows not that of which he speaks. It will fit just fine once the holes are dealt with, which is an easy fix for someone who knows what they're doing. Just take it to someone you trust. It is odd though, as I had spoken to someone there several years ago before I replaced mine. He was familiar with the JTV's, said he had dealt with a number of customers who'd already done the swap, etc, etc. Don't remember his name, unfortunately.

Roughly akin to buying a couch filled with nails and broken glass because nothing else matched the carpet...;)

If you want seamless transitions with minimal tap dancing, and/or fiddling with knobs, then a dual-amp clean/dirty patch is really your only option. Assign each amp to the expression pedal, and use the mags for cleans, and models for the dirt (or vice versa, your choice). Or use models for everything and switch manually with the knob...but that's a little more moving around.

Never purchased any, and have no plans to. That being said, if someone manages to get paid for something they'd likely be doing on their own anyway, more power to 'em. When I was 10, my allowance was contingent upon me walking the dog and taking out the garbage...now I hafta do those things for free. Oh well...;)

Jtv-89f String Tension?
cruisinon2 replied to gravesleo's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
No, it's not just you. Piezo outputs vary. That's why string volumes are adjustable in Workbench. -
lower volume above 12th fret JTV 59
cruisinon2 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You've just described every Strat-style guitar with a bolt-on neck in the universe. They all tend to start sounding a little thin the higher you go on the fretboard. -
I'm sure L6's marketing director is quaking in his boots. Just because you wouldn't buy one, doesn't mean no one would. Besides, it's just a guess anyway...nobody knows what they're gonna do, or not do. But generally speaking, older products/projects get shelved, and updates become less and less frequent, until ultimately they're nonexistent. It's just the way it is. Nothing lasts forever, and no company on earth will maintain endless support of everything they've ever made, until the end of time. If you want to spend 3-4x as much on Fractal so you can have a bigger editor window to stare at, fine...it's your money.

With this, or any other modeler or pre-amp/multi-fx unit, you ALWAYS need to set the volumes of your clean tones first. Get them as loud as you can without clipping, and then adjust the volume of your dirty tones relative to the clean patches. Can't be done the other way around. You will run out of headroom on the clean patches 100% of the time...the cleans need to be your reference point.

Make Your Variax Sound 100% Better
cruisinon2 replied to katiekerry's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
This forum is lousy with examples of "new" guitars arriving without batteries and/or chargers, and USB dongles...it isn't terribly surprising that little foam inserts didn't make their way into the springs on any one particular unit. -
Warmoth neck for JTV69
cruisinon2 replied to patgiff's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well if the guy is backed up with work for a week and a half, OK...but it's a 1 hour job, maybe 1 1/2. -
So willful ignorance is the way forward? That'll end well for society...;) FWIW, I would argue that setting up a guitar requires far more finesse than changing a set of brake pads. If you can turn a wrench without knocking yourself unconscious, and have even the most rudimentary spatial orientation skills, then you are more than sufficiently equipped to replace your own brake pads. Grinding the rotors, perhaps not....baby steps.

George Carlin said it best: "If you take two things that have never been nailed together before, and nail them together...some $chmuck will buy it from you". ;)

Lmao...

What?!?! No bassoon IR's? Steel drums? Didgeridoo? That's it...I quit. ;)

New Owner of Helix Rack and L2M - Question about noise from L2M
cruisinon2 replied to harosha's topic in Helix
3 cheers for quality control!!!! Embarrassing...and it's a shame, because when they work, they sound great. But it's not chump-change you're spending. Back-to-back failures is a joke.- 21 replies
