  1. The 12 string models are underwhelming and rather artificial, as you've noted...in my experience, there's little you can do to improve them. They are what they are. The 6 string acoustic models however, can be made to sound quite good, provided that you're listening through some kind of FRFR output... (good) headphones, studio monitors, PA speaker(s), etc. If you're playing through a "real" guitar amp/cab, you can abandon all hope of ever getting convincing acoustic tones. The frequency response just isn't there. You can twiddle EQ knobs until the end of time, and it ain't gonna happen.
  2. Can't do that. The POD is your interface, and there's no modeling engine in the edit software. The sounds are in the POD itself, not your computer. HD Edit just allows you to make changes to a connected device with having to sit on the floor and navigate a tiny black and grey screen. There is an "offline" mode for HD Edit, though I have no idea why it even exists...you can make changes, but without the POD you can't hear anything, so it's essentially useless.
  3. With a smartphone and Google translate, I can get slapped in any language...;)
  4. And they have...overwhelmingly so. I had a JMP-1 back in the day too. You can't make that thing sound like a Fender twin, a Plexi, or a Boogie just by clicking a footswitch. By comparison, it was a Model-T Ford. Cutting edge for it's day, but nobody will mistake one for a Tesla. More options and complexity hardly ever translates into instant gratification...but the more you use the POD, the easier it will get to dial in tones that you like. Eventually it'll be second nature, like anything else.
  5. Lol...that's because there is none. Despite official proclamations to the contrary that the Standard is an "all Line 6 design", a blind man can tell it's a Pacifica with Variax guts. Whether or not that's a good thing or not is up to they player...but a Pacifica it remains nonetheless.
  6. How you choose to connect to the computer doesn't matter, as it's not the source of the problem... Getting a modeler to sound good is not very intuitive, and frustrates most users initially, even if you've been playing for a lifetime. If you've been used to a "real" amps forever, dialing in tones with settings similar to what you'd use on an amp are likely to be disappointing, if not wretchedly awful...and it's the final output device(s) that are to blame. Headphones or small studio monitors have a much wider frequency range and flatter response than a guitar amp's (which are actually VERY narrow, and not terribly flat). That's why you're getting all the fizzy high-end, and boomy bass...those frequencies are just not produced by traditional guitar cabinets. Using the POD's various EQ options to dial them out is the way to go, but there are no magic settings. You'll have to experiment with what to cut, and how much. The Mid-focus EQ is an easy way to apply high and low cuts at the same time. The low-cut under the cab parameters is also useful. The choice of cab and mic models also makes a HUGE difference. You could use the global EQ, but as the amp models can vary quite a bit in terms of what they need, using the global EQ might fix one patch while ruining 3 others. Bottom line is, there are MANY more options to tweak on a modeler, as compared to just plugging into an amp with a few pedals...expect to spend a considerable amount of time before you're comfortable with it. And that goes for any modeler out there, don't care who's making it.
  7. "the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it." There's only one way to interpret that sentence. There is no ambiguity there. "I can only hear the changes if I also do this". Period. But clearly you have no intention of letting this go...so if you need to "win", fine. You win. I officially surrender. You're right, I'm wrong. Moving on. Feel free to get the last word in if that's important for you. I'm not responding anymore, as this is a complete waste of everyone's time.
  8. Occasionally I'll use the JTV in the studio without the POD where the battery in the only option....but it doesn't take a full charge anymore, no matter how long its in the charger. Most I'll get is 3 lights when I put in in the guitar...thankfully, that's rare anyway. Battery lives in the case 98% of the time. Batteries in general just suck.
  9. In my experience, these things will either take a charge (in ever diminishing amounts), or they won't. I hate batteries...especially at the insane price of these ones in particular.
  10. My favorite story will always be from the Apollo 13 mission... the prank "towing bill" that the Grumman engineers sent to the guys at Rockwell (who had built the part of the craft that blew up). It was 1970 dollars of course, but if memory serves they were asking for $4 for the first mile and $1 for each additional mile....for something like a 400,000 mile trip from the point where the accident occurred. Who says engineers have no sense of humor? ;)
  11. And this guy expects people to pay money for his "list"? Baffling. For a set of patches that are widely regarded as unusable without extensive editing, I'm not sure of what use such a list would be. Besides, if you want all the factory presets back, one can simply save your own patches, and reload the factory ones. It's amazing what people will pay for...
  12. You said you can't hear the changes you make until another action is performed...double-clicking on the patch. That implies that you can't hear the changes as they're made. Your words, not mine. Now that might not be what you MEANT, but it is what you said. And it is a completely separate issue from the changes not being saved when you hit "send" from the editor. So yes, you did indeed cite 2 separate problems. Either way, this has officially become ridiculous and is solving nothing, so I'm bowing out. Good luck.
  13. Are we in the Twilight Zone? I'll quote you again...it's your original post: "Whenever I make a change in the editor like raising the volume of a patch and sending it, the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it." YOU claimed to have this problem, not me...you started this thread. We're going in circles here, and I have absolutely no idea why.
  14. I don't that problem, never did, and I never claimed otherwise...you did, in the very first post in this thread: "Whenever I make a change in the editor like raising the volume of a patch and sending it, the change can only be heard if I switch to that patch by double clicking on it." Only problem I have is that changes are not saved to the device when sent from the editor. That needs to be done manually on the POD itself. I can hear changes in real time just fine, as I make them.

    Helix vs Pod

Here's the rub though...you can't derail or invalidate a criticism by pointing out that someone else is worse. There's always somebody worse. Your average serial killer will never approach the body count of Ghengis Khan, Pol Pot, or Idi Amin...but that doesn't mean I'm inviting Ted Bundy to Christmas dinner (yes, I know he's dead). ;) Deflecting the issue whilst hoisting yourself atop the moral high ground does not prove one's virtue, it just makes you the lesser of two evils. Politicians do that..."Vote for me because my opponent is horrible"...and what's that done for us? Not much.
  16. Yeah, whatever you do don't buy that thing. Tight doesn't begin to describe it...forget plugging it in while it's in the case. You need 20 minutes and a tub of Crisco just to get it in there. And the zipper pulls seem to be made of sawdust. All four of mine snapped off within about a month of use.

    Helix vs Pod

No one is entirely free of transgressions...it's impossible. But that doesn't mean that one cannot ever criticize anything. If being faultless were to be the prerequisite for taking issue with something, then no one on this earth would ever be "entitled to their own opinion".

    Helix vs Pod

Good luck with that crusade... There's yet to be a generation that has truly "understood" the young'ins. Every generation bemoans the state of "those damned kids today". And, it goes both ways...generally speaking kids have no more desire to be understood, than the old folks have to understand them..."if it's too loud, you're too old", etc etc. It's human nature...just the way we're wired. And when you're an old fart, you're gonna do it too. It's as inevitable as the tides...we all go out the same way we came in: confused, yelling, and crapping our pants. ;)

    Helix vs Pod

Now, now...don't you know that everything this generation does is 100% valid and praise-worthy? Who's gonna pay for his hug therapy if he reads this? ;)
  20. Lol...clearly there's still some confusion. You: "Hickdood" Me: "cruisinon2" "Power user" and "guru" are not screen names...there's a thousand of each. Nobody's ever gonna know whom you are trying to address.
  21. +1 on the mono patch. Very Tom Scholz-ish. I like the Soldano models a lot...never used that mic/cab combo with it before though. I rolled the bass off a bit, as it was a little boomy for me, but that could just be attributed to playing a different guitar. I like it... and I've had zero luck with Customtone. Nice...
  22. Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but it wouldn't matter if the "power user" designation were contingent upon on having a shoe size bigger than 9 1/2, and a fondness for sardines. Either way, he's addressing a category, not a person...and in the middle of a long dormant thread. It's hard to get what you're looking for that way.
  23. "Power user" is not an individual, it's a category of users with more than "x" number of posts...and the link you're looking for is dead because this thread is nearly 3 years old. You're not likely to get a response.
