I thought the same thing regarding the global EQ when I ventured into the FRFR world...however, you might find that as you move from one venue to another, you need to tweak things a bit. The global EQ is quite handy for that. Otherwise you're stuck going into every patch you'll use that night, and changing them all. Not my idea of fun...

Lol...ahh, the magic of editing. ;)

Not from Customtone...you'll have better luck consulting a Ouija board or magic 8-ball. You'll waste weeks sifting through patch after patch that Phil from Oxnard swears will sound "just like Metallica"...but they won't. Too many variables to expect anything that even vaguely resembles continuity from player to player. Spend your time experimenting with the various amp/cab/mic models, and figuring out what works for you...you'll end up where you want to be a whole lot faster.

Some competition for Helix... curious to see how this is received
cruisinon2 replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
Or did it? Considering how long it takes stuff like this to go from drawing board to your living room, minus some corporate espionage, I don't see how they could have managed to design, test, and release it in the time since Helix hit the streets... -
Some monitors have only balanced inputs...you might want to check that first.

Well I'm certainly not gonna shed any tears over the demise of hair metal, but replacing it with techno is roughly akin to trading smallpox for the AIDS epidemic...would you like the 5 lb, or the 10 lb bag of crap? ;)

Well you've got two problems...number one, you're dealing with GC, an organization which leaves just about everything to be desired. Personally, I wouldn't believe anything they tell you...not even "Hello". The last thing I attempted to order through them was a music stand...a fairly inexpensive item that should be relatively easy to acquire, unless there was a world-wide run on walnut music stands that somehow didn't make the news. Anyway, after several months of being told "we'll get the shipment in 2 weeks", I gave up and got a refund. I won't buy so much as a guitar pick from that place. They're a joke. And number two, you're shopping for a niche product with a tiny customer base, compared to all the other stuff that music retailers are peddling. Nobody is stocking dozens of these things at a time, because they tend to sit around. Nor do I suspect that L6 has the factory working 3 shifts to churn out JTV's 24 hrs a day. They are likely produced in batches, periodically. If I we're you, I'd cancel the order, and see if Sweetwater has any in stock. Chances are you'll get it sooner, and you are not likely to hear one fairy tale after another about arrival dates.

Tune JTV 69 down 1/2 step
cruisinon2 replied to JTSC777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Daddarrio has a tool on their site that allows you to calculate what various tunings will do to the tension on a given set of strings. http://stringtensionpro.com/SetBuilder?set=EXL110 For a set of 10's dropping to Eb, the total tension drops from 102.5 lbs to 91.3...that's more than 11 lbs, more than 10% of the total. For the sake of comparison, a set of 9's in standard tuning is 84.4 lbs...so in essence, tuning down a half step is two-thirds of the way towards dropping an entire string guage. Don't know about you, but I consider that significant. Even without theses fancy internet tools to feed us info, anyone who's ever dropped down to Eb knows that the difference is readily felt. -
Tune JTV 69 down 1/2 step
cruisinon2 replied to JTSC777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well that's odd...tuning down a half-step puts significantly less tension on the neck, even for light gauge strings. Unless the action is initially high enough for Shaq to limbo under the strings, it's mystifying that you don't end up with horrible fret buzz everywhere. Intonation is usually affected as well. -
Tune JTV 69 down 1/2 step
cruisinon2 replied to JTSC777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Maybe it's just me, but one of the primary reasons I bought the thing was specifically to avoid having to tune down, and set-up the guitar all over again. Yes, I could keep one or more instruments tuned that way forever (which I used to do out of necessity)....but then they're stuck in that role. Unless you want to be adjusting the set-up constantly, which in addition to being a huge pain in the a$$, is probably not too good for the guitar. Frequently changing the amount of tension on the neck, and adjusting the truss rod to compensate is somewhat less than ideal. Guitars like equilibrium... -
And Facebook connectivity. The world needs to know about this awesome patch I just made...Tweet, tweet! "Like, like". Ugh. Ugh.
-
Yes. Patch changes take longer than normal when you've got HD edit running, and you'll see "syncing" across the screen as the POD is communicating with the edit software. Make your changes, save everything, and then close out of HD Edit, and it should return to normal operation. You don't have to disconnect the USB...shutting down the program should be sufficient.

I'm sure there will be something...along with the usual 50/50 thrilled to pi$$ed ratio...;)

This thread is nearly 3 years old... I wouldn't count on any "new" stuff for the HD platform. At this point, it's at least twice as old as this thread. Smart money says there will eventually be some new product(s) in the POD price range...probably sooner than later, as the Helix furor subsides a bit. Nothing lasts forever.

These are all entirely subjective questions. Either one will give you the "amp in the room" sound...because both options involve a "real" amp and cabinet. But only you will be able to judge if one is "better" than the other. You might decide there's no appreciable difference, or it might be night and day. I have no idea. There's only one easy to find out, either way. You've already got the DT...roll the dice on the MESA, A/B them and decide. Buy from someplace with a liberal return policy like Sweetwater, in case you don't like it. You'll have 30 days to test-drive it. What my personally choice would be, or anyone else around here for that matter, is largely irrelevant.

Helix lifts off the ground when I use the pedal toe switch
cruisinon2 replied to Thurston9's topic in Helix
Yes...;) -
Well..."guidelines",then? I've still yet to see any Norwegian death metal bands with a tuba on stage...;)
-
Rabbit hole indeed... I had avoided external IRs altogether until very recently, not wanting to add yet another layer of tweaking to what is already a fairly exhausting number of options. Tried Ownhammer and Redwirze free ones...didn't find anything that knocked my socks off. None of them sounded "bad", just nothing to write home about. None too excited about paying for a bunch of them either, only to reach the same conclusion.
-
Admittedly, I haven't heard the clip, but when did guitars become a techno ingredient? ;)
-
Hmm...black tie. Must be a Fractal product, what with the gold leaf purchase invitations and all. ;)
-
So it's a Fractal product, then?...;)

So we have a gig next Saturday and the soundguy...
cruisinon2 replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
When you get right down to it, it's just as stupid as telling you that you HAVE to bring a Marshall cab, because he doesn't like MESA Boogie...just ridiculous.
