When in doubt, reboot. Try a global reset first. If that doesn't work, save your patches/set lists in HD Edit on your computer, then try a factory reset.

Odd really bad noise only on open D string.
cruisinon2 replied to Palico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I didn't listen to the clip (out and about at the moment), but I'm gonna guess that it had something to do with the trem stabilizer. I have a Tremol-No installed on my 69, and just went thru a similar problem last night...I was getting an odd rattling sound (B on the A string). Definitely a physical vibration thing...traced it to the trem block. I'm not familiar with the unit you have, but if there's anything on it that could work itself loose, such as adjustable screws, make sure everything tightened up as it should be. That took care of my problem. Hope that helps. -
Round and round we go..."L6 didn't give me MY most requested feature, so they suck. What about ME?!?!?!?!" Boo-friggin'-hoo. Grow up.

Let's not kids ourselves...they've gotten away from printing manuals because paper costs money...making them available online is essentially cost-free.

Some #0000 steel wool will get the job done too. I'd be wary of sandpaper, unless you get some of the ultra-fine stuff that jewelers use to polish stuff...even then it might strip the finish if you're not careful.

"That there's an R-V"...

No company on earth exists to serve the interests of their customers, period...no matter how eloquently the mission statement insists otherwise. It would be nice, but it doesn't happen. The goal is profitability. We could argue all day long about the best way to achieve that, and there is certainly an argument for not pi$$ing off the people who's money you want, but the reality is, no matter what L6 does, somebody will disapprove, claim offense, and complain that they've been spat upon in the process...especially in this delightful age of perpetual righteous indignation we're all currently enjoying. Upsetting oneself over things that don't really matter is almost a sport at this point, but I digress. Taking any corporate decision personally is just plain silly...you know why? Because whomever made that decision wasn't thinking about you when they made it...guaranteed. They were thinking about money, and/or answering to a boss who was thinking about money. There's a name for it...capitalism, and it sure as hell isn't personal. Does anyone really think that L6 has a Dept. of Evil Villains, twisting their mustaches, trying to find the best way to tie all HD500 owners to the metaphorical train tracks? What would be the point? If it's not serving the bottom line, it's not happening.

Well it's garbage in, garbage out, right? Although I suppose with a nice speedy chip, you could get faster garbage, no? :P

I'm a little disappointed with the PV Panama Amp Head
cruisinon2 replied to talonmm's topic in POD HD
New from Peavey, the Crunchmaster 2000! 3 gain settings: Cuisinart, wood-chipper, and off-shore oil rig drill. Gain, baby...GAIN!!!! -
This is America...threaten litigation. Just kidding...I have no idea. Probably involves a phone call, or at the very least opening a support ticket. Even if the guys that handle those have nothing to do with it, they should be able to direct you to the right person.

JTV FW 2.21 - What's New In It?
cruisinon2 replied to davidb7170's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
OK then...and I'm only saying this because I care...there are plenty of decafeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing. If you want, I'll be outraged too... One for all, all for one! Go team! 3...2...1...everybody download!!! Crash the site!!! BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! ;) -
JTV FW 2.21 - What's New In It?
cruisinon2 replied to davidb7170's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I doubt there's anything significant in there, as it was released with absolutely no fanfare...Not to mention the fact that no one seems to have noticed it sitting there for the last 2+ months, lol. Not even the uber-obsessed firmware-ites who frequent the boards. Generally speaking, if nobody knows that something exists, how necessary could it possibly be? :P -

cruisinon2 replied to talonmm's topic in POD HD
At the risk of alienating the "there's no such thing as too much distortion" crowd, this may be why you're having trouble getting a sound that you like...from this, or any other amp. At some point it just becomes mud, and your guitar will get lost in the mix. -
What units are we measuring the "little somethings" in these days? ;) I realize this is rather pointless, as the debate will go on until the last tube on earth has been used up, and last guy who remembers what they sounded like shuffles off the mortal coil, but I couldn't disagree more. If anything, there's even less of a difference live. In the quiet, controlled environment of a studio where you can A/B a modeler vs the real thing, then maybe...if you have "golden ears", as they say. Even then, there are seasoned pros, both players and engineers alike, who get fooled. But with a band around you, cymbals crashing 6 feet from your head, and a bunch of caterwauling drunks writhing about, it's virtually impossible to tell the difference, imho.

Meh...wasn't impressed. It's funny, the two amps that I was looking forward to the most were the 5150, and the acoustic, and so far neither one is doing it for me. Only success I've had for acoustics came from Customtone, oddly enough. If memory serves the name of the patch was "acoustic sym". Bucking conventional wisdom, it actually uses an amp model (one of the blackfaces I believe), with no cab. Closest I've been able to get to just plugging an acoustic straight into a PA...works great with the acoustic in position 5 on the JTV.

Well, happy to report that both firmware and model packs are installed and working. Only had one minor hiccup...when loading the model packs from the license manager I got an error...it claimed to have failed to write them to the POD. Actually happened twice, so I powered it off and on, and there they were...weird, but who cares? They're in there... New JCM800, Variac'ed Plexi, Bogner, and Orange have my attention so far. Really wanted to like the 5150, but so far is not moving the needle for me...but time with it had been limited, so we'll see.

Personally, no...I'll just stop using the L6 Link connection. But I'll bet money there's somebody out there who's spent hours on end tweaking some patches for "electric" mode, and some for "acoustic", and was used to being able to switch with the POD, who will now be cranky about it. Won't affect my abillity to use the rig...I just have a $60 cable that I now won't use (that color is hideous anyway...I won't miss it, lol). I've blown lots more money on worse things, :P. I'll live...

Brand New VTV 69 Switch Problem
cruisinon2 replied to spookeydog's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I wouldn't...if it's brand new, send it back and get another one. Cleaning the contacts was just the simplest thing to try, and almost impossible to destroy anything else in the process. If it's still dead, then obviously it's a more complicated problem. Whole switch may need to be replaced... -
Not if you're connected via L6 Link...the onboard EQ does nothing in that case, I've tried it. So yes, if you run into the 1/4" channel ins, you could use that EQ, but you lose the ability to control the Stagesources' various modes (electric guitar, acoustic gutiar, PA reference mode, etc.) from the POD. Also, when using the L2T as a monitor, the EQ panel is underneath, facing the floor...makes it rather difficult to adjust anything on the fly. Not impossible, just not easy to get at.
-
And nobody thought to mention that ahead of time? Words fail me... Guess it's 1/4" outs and PA referrence mode only on the L2T, for me. All the DT guys are gonna throw a fit...can't say I blame them. ANybody want to buy a robin's egg blue L6 Link cable? Going cheap...
-
I suppose that 's a workable solution too...but I tend to have the patch itself set up for a particular guitar anyway, as any given tone won't necessarily work with any old axe that you plug into it, so I've just kept the inputs simple. Easier to keep it all straight in my head...different gutiar, different bank of tones, everything arranged accordingly. But your method is just as good...all about what works for you.
