Custom neck
cruisinon2 replied to DeepBlueWitch's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
1) Can't help you with anything UK based 2) It's stupid simple, if you know what you're doing. (see below) 3)As previously noted, it's not possible to change the neck on a 59, so forget that. Any Strat replacement neck will fit the JTV 69. However, because of the body's contoured heel, one of the holes for the mounting bolts is offset from the rest. If you're having one built from scratch, tell them not to drill any mounting holes, that way you can tap and drill them yourself in the correct spots... however, that's not always an option. If you end up purchasing one with the holes pre-drilled for a Strat body, you will need to dowel the one closest to the offset position, and then drill the hole you need. It's too close to the original hole's position to just drill without filling the existing one first... you'll end up splitting the wood and then the neck is garbage. It's not difficult, but it's also very easy to screw up if you're not handy with this kind of thing... tread cautiously. -
You know what... you're right. We're all deluding ourselves. You and you alone are blessed with golden ears, and perception so keen that you may well be the next step in human evolution. By comparison we all may as well be deaf, and have clearly squandered $1500 on equipment that not a single one of us knows how to use properly. There...that do it for ya?

Rumor has it that the 2.8 firmware update will finally include a retractable awning.... ;)

That's what we need! Shut it down! Mr. Moderator, please rescue us from this terribly upsetting exchange of ideas... somebody might get offended. Which way to the safe space? And be sure to have my crayons and emotional support tortoise ready, just in case. Enormous reptiles are the only thing that soothe my fraying nerves. ;)

I've never really used the Helix wahs, as I prefer my Fulltone Clyde, so I'm guessing here... but assuming that the wahs have a level parameter as pretty much all the FX blocks do, it seems to me you could simply adjust that to match the level you get when the block is bypassed.

You can't talk yourself into liking stuff, don't care what it is....light beer, cinnamon flavored dental floss, Canada ;)...you either like it, or you don't. And when you start with the preconceived notion that the product in question is inferior to one or more of its competitors, the battle is over before it starts. I don't like Les Pauls. Don't like the scale length, and the body's ergonomics just don't work for me. So I stopped trying. It's a shame, because it's a great sound.... but I made my peace with it years ago.

Stick your car under a tarp in the garage for a decade, then tell me how great it runs. ;) Seriously though, without having somebody who knows what they're doing poke around and diagnose the Rocktron, you'll never know. I had an old ADA Microtube 200 poweramp (which despite the name was a solid state amp...the only tubes in sight were a pair of 12AX7's thrown in at the front end for alleged "warmth") that sat unused for a while... it was DOA when I tried to fire it up. Nothing lasts forever.

If this is your only gripe, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. What's the source of the audio on these "disappointing" videos? Is it a properly mixed multi-track recording from the board, or the $hitty mic in a cell phone or video camera that invariably clips constantly in a loud environment? If it's the latter, then it's a lost cause...you couldn't tweak that away if you spent the rest of your life trying, cause your rig ain't the problem.

HX FX is definitely the way to go for your needs...by far the most bang for the buck.

POD HD Error: (Code 80007008) Hardware not initialized
cruisinon2 replied to fenyloketonuria's topic in POD HD
Is the unit functioning on its own when not connected to the computer? -
Native has nothing to do with the floorboard... it's a DAW plug-in for recording. It contains everything that your hardware does, but functions independently. All you need is a guitar and interface... the Helix hardware is not required to use Native. As already mentioned, HX Edit is what you need to create, edit, and store backups of your patches on a computer.

Well it certainly isn't normal... Just about the only thing you can do yourself is a factory reset, and/or reinstalling the firmware and see if the problem goes away. If not, then it's a hardware issue. If you go that route, make sure you backup your patches first. Or open a support ticket and see what L6 advises if you don't want to mess around with it yourself.

Ok...I gotta ask. Where exactly can one get a "fancy" dinner for 2 for $72? ;)

Playing Live, Headphone Out, Wireless Earbuds, Bluetooth, Ideas Anyone?
cruisinon2 replied to The-Big-Diezel's topic in Helix
Even if you find something with tolerable latency, you couldn't pay me to rely on BT connections for live performance...way too prone to drop outs. Half the time my damn phone can't stay connected for passive music listening in the car. There are already a thousand ways to have "Spinal Tap" moments on stage without bringing it on yourself. -
Relay G10S Transmitter Charging Time
cruisinon2 replied to NautiBoy's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
Just depends on how close to dead it is. It's bound to have at least a little juice straight out of the box. I never bothered to time it, but somewhere around here in the bowels of the Relay G10 FAQ page, it claims that it can take up to 3.5 hrs when the battery is completely discharged. I never run mine down that far, so it's never taken anywhere near that long for me. It works great. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between this thing and a cable...but I think the 8 hour battery life estimate is a bit overly optimistic. After about 6 hours, I'm down to 1 solid red LED, which indicates "more than 30 minutes remaining", according to the manual. How much more is the question... is it 31 minutes, 53, 72? It's hard to say. That's when I charge it up. Whatever it is, it's more than enough for a 3-set cover gig.... -
Helix output completely cuts off when using a lot of reverbs.
cruisinon2 replied to mareiou's topic in Helix
This is precisely why I don't download anything from random strangers on a forum... and it's clearly why L6 felt the need to post that "warning about download tones" thread that adorns the top of the forum. -
Do what you like, but what you've got here is a solution desperately in search of a problem. Guessing at what might or might not be happening in the bowels of the unit is pointless. Did everything sound glorious yesterday, but now it sounds like a tin can on a string? If not, then you're searching for gremlins that you don't have. It's pointless, and likely to actually create problems rather than solve them. "Over" this, or "under" that only matters if you don't like the way things sound...

I love statements like "it sounds more 'real' after I did X, Y, or Z". What does that mean? Here's what you'll find: Lowering volume in one place while raising it somewhere else is like jogging in place for an hour. You get tired and sweaty, but you've gone nowhere. The ability to balance relative string volumes exists to account for the fact that piezo outputs vary. Arbitrarily setting them all to 50% (or 37%, 12%, or 93%, etc etc) doesn't balance anything, and will just amplify the problem. Particularly on models like the Strat, where the bass strings often overpower the B and high E.

Has Any Effect in the Helix Inspired You to Purchase the Real Pedal?
cruisinon2 replied to TRENDKILLCFH333's topic in Helix
I like gear...I also like money, lol. Unfortunately for me, in the absence of divine intervention or a winning lottery ticket, I'm doomed to having limited supplies of both ;). As long as that's the case, the idea of doubling up on multiple versions of the same thing will always seem odd to me. -
Has Any Effect in the Helix Inspired You to Purchase the Real Pedal?
cruisinon2 replied to TRENDKILLCFH333's topic in Helix
lol... honestly I find the question a little puzzling. If I find something I like in Helix, isn't the problem solved? ;) My first thought will never be, "I'd better run out and spend more money to re-aquire the same thing I've got right here". Maybe it's me... -
As is always the case, the only ones who know the answer aren't likely to tell you... good or bad, that's how L6 rolls. If I had to guess, I'd say the answer is no...I don't see them reaching back that far. A quick browse through the forums, and you'll see that the constant clamoring for new HX models far outpaces requests for old stuff... can't see it being at the top of their to-do list.
