  1. Had the original parts remained available, they would still be selling the HD500.
  2. It's called advertising. Have you ever seen an ad that said "same as the old". Besides, more DSP is correct. But what does more DSP mean to users? You are still limited to 2 amps and 8 effects. There's no speed increase. There is not reliability increase.
  3. Pianoguyy wonders: Have any of you whiny bastards looked at the other L6 products available? Firehawk. Amplifi.
  4. Well... 2010 The X wasn't actually a new product. Again - you aren't buying the same unit. Price comparing like that is futile.
  5. IRL, people put pedals after an amp? We must not be talking about the same thing then.
  6. I know that you know what you are talking about. I just want to make sure that the OP isn't expecting something that isn't going to happen. ==== How does one get rid of an effect - the same way they added the effect, but in reverse. How does one get rid of a block - the block is always going to be there. It is just going to be empty or not.
  7. unless I misread something... the block isn't going to disappear.
  8. There is no factory reset. You can only reflash the firmware. The jabroni that said "pressing left" is not doing a factory reset. That is something else. And while it may have solved his problem, and is something you can try, and many do it after a flash - it is not the "factory reset" procedure.
  9. How did you put the fx in the block?
  10. I know that you think you understand what you thought I said but I'm not sure that you realize that what you heard is not what I said
  11. When I wear my wedding ring to play guitar, the extra piece of metal creates extra vibration, which creates a harmonic overtone that gets picked up by the Pod and then amplified to the nth degree because they did not apply the proper magnetic filter. It disappears if you you perform gigs in Alaska because the Northern Lights acts as an anti vibrational conduit that allow the inhibitor to be properly screened. You don't know about this because you aren't a properly trained Teslavian. But it's ok because I bought the unit anyhow. And, let's face it, there are only 5 ears alive (Rocco lost one to sepsis) today that are trained to hear it --- but it is there, trust me.
  12. Only because I have seen way too many people say "wow, new product, must buy it". Only to discover that they are buying the exact same unit. Buy it if you want. Buy it if you need a backup or your other one broke or whatever. But don't buy it expecting an upgrade. There is nothing "upgrade" about the X units. Advertising? Did you expect them to say "Lookie here, you can buy the same unit with a shiny new name"? The whole point of advertising is to make something look really good. "New and improved" DSP means nothing. You are still limited to 8 effects and 2 amps. Nor is it like RAM on a computer that makes programs open and close faster.
  13. What causes it - I don't know. But it certainly isn't just him.
  14. Adding IR just makes it seem like people bought the wrong unit or are busy trying to obtain the unobtainable.
  15. Prior to buying a modeler, here's what we did; We bought an amp/cab/speaker combination that we liked to get the sound we liked. Each component helped create tone. Change the amp, tone changes. Change the cab, the tone changes. Change the speaker, tone changes. Every piece creates tone. And then what happens - you go to a show or into a studio, and they place a mic in front of your speaker to run it through different speakers. But here's the catch - the mic adds another level of tone changing. Whether it is because of the mic that was used or the angle it was used, it is adding something to your tone. What you hear in your bedroom is not what comes out on the disc, or what you hear on stage is not what you hear in the crowd. But now there is modeling. It simulates everything, including the mic that is used to get it to the recorder or pa. That is why you should run these things direct. The last thing you want to do is run this into another amp/cab/speaker combination because it will add an entire new set of tone layers. Plus, in actual tone creation - a Fender model will never sound like a Fender if ran through a Marshall. Nor will a Fender model sound like a Fender if ran though a Fender. Fender on top of Fender does not equal Fender. And, of course, if your model includes the hiss and other various "uglies" of a real amp, and you then run it through another amp that provides hiss, you have hiss on top of hiss. That's where FRFR comes in. They have no personality. What you put into it is what you get out of it. If you put a Fender model into it, you get a Fender out of it. But again, you don't want to mic it because the mic is going to add a new level of tone. Besides, the mic has already been simulated. ================= Specifically to the Pod; You have two sets of output. You have the 1/4" and the XLR. When creating tone, the one thing you need to watch out for is the fact that the 1/4" will sum to mono but the XLR always remain left/right. So, if you are using an FRFR to create tone or monitor yourself, while using the XLR to go direct to the PA - you may hear a difference in tone. That is not because things are different, it is because the left and right are coming out differently. In addition to the obvious (stereo effects), a left and right that come out of the same speaker can cause phase issues. You should use two personal monitoring systems, not one. One left. One right. That way your XLR will be the same thing. I mean, if you want to use a dummy plug that tricks the unit into thinking you are using left and right, that is ok too. But the point is L+R is not the same as L&R.
  16. "Having a backup" - that is a reason to buy a 2nd unit. I absolutely agree with that. But after 8 years, your need for a backup seems like a poor excuse. Shouldn't a backup have been had 7 years ago? Regardless, as long as you have kept your unit up to date with the latest firmware - the 500, 500x, HD Pro, and HD Pro X, are all the same unit. The software is all the same. The hardware is different. Obviously, you have 2 floor units and 2 rack units, and 2 are X models. The X models have more "memory", but that does nothing for the functionality of the unit and only happened because the original processor was no longer available. You are still limited to 8 effects and 2 amps just like in the original units. Some people, on the two original units have ran into issues when trying to run dual amps with 8 delays/reverbs. And that seems to be cured in the X units. And the 500X has new footswitches and new lights around those footswitches. BUT, as seen here in the forums, and heard in The Tone King video, those lights can cause a low level hum/pulse. https://youtu.be/u7KkN1_UuWs?t=12m36s
  17. A better question is ---- why would you "upgrade"? And why do you consider it an upgrade?
  18. Here's a helpful comment - There's obviously a reason why I asked about setlists. HINT - it has nothing to do with the pieces of paper you tape to the floor that contain the songs you are playing that night. Read the manual(s).
  19. Maybe you misunderstood what he meant.... You are going to hear differences unless you make it so that you don't hear differences. The best way to not hear differences is to go FRFR, which will give you the "same" sound as what is coming out of the pa. Oh, and run direct to the pa - don't try putting a mic on your cab, lol. That defeats the purpose.
  20. Well... Do you know how to change setlists? Do you even know what a setlist is? Truth is - these units are too complicated not to read the owner's manuals. Not many are going to spoon feed you. Help yourself, then maybe come and ask for help from others.
  21. there's actually been a number of "default bundles" over the years. Sometimes patches get overwritten, sometimes they get shuffled around. The current firmware uses 6 setlists. But, the truth is - I am not sure that you ever lost anything with the 500X. I think from the time that the X came out, that no patches/setlists were removed. And I think that only 1 setlist has been added. The drastic changes came from the 500, because it was originally sold with far fewer amps and effects. By the time the X came around, the only real addition was GEQ (which I still haven't touched).
  22. I may be like a diabetic who hangs out at the donut shop to much. Like I said - treat it like you should be treating your wife. You bought a cow. Quit looking for other teets to get milk from.
