Dude, the number one creator of household dust is electronic devices. As far as the pod goes, you would be amazed at the amount of dirt things pick up from gravity. I mean, it sits on the floor and it gets stepped on. Open up your computer tower, it will have the same black dirt.

Good, my first answer is usually - don't be a cheapass, get the real thing. So I am glad that you already know that... You can also use the power supply for the HD500x. They are the same unit. And since it is the "current" product, it is probably easier to find.
-
For starters, I am a wee bit confused. Did you buy the unit 2 weeks ago or 3 years ago. And if it was only two weeks ago... how did you already get a part fixed. If PC shops work that quickly in Ireland, I may need to move. Anyhow... The unit is plenty sturdy. Assuming it "broken permanent", you either got a "bum" unit, or you or the previous owner did something. But, most likely, it is an easy fix. Perhaps the power supply?

Is it possible to use tones made for HD500x to HD500?
pianoguyy replied to boydwgrossii's topic in POD HD
But it has to be done using the "drag and drop" method. Your 500 software will not see 500x files if you try to use menu/toolbar -
Any trouble carrying line 6 Helix Backpack on an airplane?????
pianoguyy replied to chrisrocknroll's topic in Line 6 Lounge
I am probably the only one that can answer that,,, That information varies from airline to airline. But, in general, it should be fine. What also works is putting the unit inside of your suitcase. Clothes will act like a cushion to protect it from getting banged around. That way your immediate needs (cellphones, smokes, and lollipop) are accessible in an instant via your carry on . -

Using the HD500X through my EVH head and orange cab.
pianoguyy replied to benwells709's topic in POD HD
Make a choice. And make it now, before you get too far with your Pod. You either lose your rig and run the pod direct to the pa. Or you run the Pod through your rig at gig volume. There is a 3rd option. You create patches for the times you are direct and patches for when you are not. Of course, should you choose to use your rig, you then get to decide what manner of hookup you want to use. But, again, you make that decision now. -
Different sound when going into my Macbook ( HD500X )
pianoguyy replied to benwells709's topic in POD HD
And, let us not forget to mention... headphones always sound different than speakers -
which is why I am most likely never buying a new L6 product I deal in Brand K - the innovator, not the imitator.

so much for detailed

Give us a step by step description of what you are doing

Purchased?

I don't know what program he gave you, but the 500 and 500x and "different" units. You may be able to install patches on one another, but their respective programs won't "find" the others.
-
or, like most musicians, you are going deaf. The first thing that goes is the tonal spectrum. THEN the volume loss happens.
-
You are adding an entirely new device. Ultimately, you need to design your tones all over again from scratch. All of the things you had previously learned about your pod mean nothing anymore.

pianoguyy replied to AudioWaveDasher's topic in POD HD
There is no power switch. L6 has ripped off millions of users because there is no way to turn it on.- 8 replies

But your compressor and their compressor serve different functions.

If you never come back to the website, how are you going to know if your account is active or not?
-
You are aware that you can have 8 per patch, yes? Not only can you set your board to be 8 on/off swtiches (you lose patch switching on the bottom 4), but even if you use the 4x4 setting you can turn on/off multiple effects with one foot switch - OD off and chorus on with one click.

LOL Watching YouTube just made me think of another, far easier to understand, example.... Where do you put your tuner in relation to your pitch shifter? Do you want to tune your guitar, or do you want to tune your shift. Sometimes it is both, but usually people want to tune their guitar. That means that you want to put your tuner before your PS. And that is the same deal with all of the other effects - which one do you want to come first depends on what you are trying to accomplish. ******* Of course, some of the digital units are easier to set your pitch shift because they go in digital steps which gives specific tuning points. But some of the older more analog units use a knob that allows allows for all points of tuning variation, not just a +1 and +2 type of deal. I used my PS to play along with Van Halen, who didn't use an E or Eb. It was a 1/4 step, not a 1/2 step. You couldn't use a tuner for that. But I also used it to tune with the rest of the band. I use a Floyd Rose, and can't make "on the fly" changes. So, if I walk into a situation where I am at an E, and the rest of the band is Eb, we can still play. Or if I am at 440, but they are at a 434, we can still play. And the infamous humidity changes that send your tunings into chaos day after day, venue after venue.

Think of standing in a line. You are before someone. You are after someone. You cannot go before the guy in front of you goes. The guy after you cannot go until you go. That is what is meant by putting something before or after something else. I think if you have a sampler (a recording device), it should be self explanatory. If you plug your guitar into a sampler and then into effects.... you are recording the dry signal. You can turn effects off, and it will playback the dry signal. But if you plug the effects into the sampler, you are recording the wet sound. You can turn the effects off and your playback will still sound like effects. The same applies to one effect into another. Do you want to distort a wah or do you want to wah a distorted tone. Do you want to echo a distorted tone, or do you want to distort an echo.
-
Did either of you ever just randomly apply effects to the chains to see what they do?
-
Years ago, as a young lad, I discovered that the placement of the pedal is just as important as the settings used on the pedal. A distortion after a wah gives a different effect than a distortion before the wah -- which is why I had one before and one after. I don't know what the XT can and cannot do because I do not have one. But, you may not need to use a volume pedal because... the volume effect can be achieved by going guitar-->distortion-->wah
