Uh... Yes you did. Three days before you posted this.

And I liked your review, HonestOpinion. :) This has nothing to do with you, but it would've been nice if another poster in this thread didn't copypasta only the Ugly section of your review to a brand new thread in a different forum and then title it "For the curious - some Helix user feedback starts to roll in." Personally, I prefer my trolls with a bit of subtlety and nuance.

Yes—it's called "Jazz Rivet 120." EDIT: I fail at recognizing sarcasm after midnight. I'm like a really boring version of Gremlins.

Line 6's. That line was from the quote. We're able to get 123dB of dynamic range from 114dB converters.

If you pan the Multi Output hard left, set your Logic track to Input 1 (mono). If you pan the Multi Output hard right, set your Logic track to Input 2 (mono).

I've passed this along to our Product Specialist Team. Perhaps something's planned that hasn't yet been announced.

1. Yep. On Windows, your PC can't see Helix at all without a driver. This is expected. 2. We're feverishly tracking every little thing down. Hopefully all will be gravy soon. There are a lot of different computers out there with a lot of video cards. Windows 10 is funky (for not just Line 6). Plus, on the Mac side, El Capitan is causing a lot of headaches (for pretty much everyone in the entire industry).

My favorite teacher was my freshman university Physics professor. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "Why the presets work?"

Actual side-by-side, controlled comparison between "The Big 3"

Personally, I'd be way more interested in a blind A/B test between the real amp and Helix's model of said amp. -
Line 6's goal was to totally nail the sound and behavior of the amps, even to a fault. Where the original knob behaves in a nonlinear manner, so will Helix. If a certain real mic sounds horrible on a certain real amp at a certain distance, so will Helix. Not suggesting that our approach is better, just that it's what we've decided to do.
-
Helix's cabs are IRs. They start out as 2048-point IRs and are then optimized to sound the same but use way less DSP horsepower. Third-party and user IRs aren't necessarily better in an empirical sense, but they certainly give you a wider variety of cab+mic tones.
-
Is the mic gain turned up? IIRC, pressing the knob may mute the signal (or turn it up, I forget—keep lending my Helix out on the weekends). If it's not mic gain, CS should be able to suss this out for you.

POD HD500X's XLR outputs ran at mic level only—Helix's XLR outputs can run either mic or line level, but they're set to line by default. If you run them into the mic preamps found on most live consoles, you'll clip and get a ton of noise. Press MENU and then Knob 6 (Global Settings). From the Ins/Outs submenu, press [PAGE >] one to get to page 2. Turn Knob 2 (XLR Outputs) to "Mic."

I don't think Apollo Twin for USB/PC is out yet, so I assume you're on a Mac? If so, you can create an aggregate device and run both your Apollo and Helix simultaneously. Haven't used Cubase with an aggregate device yet, but it's no problem on Logic. As for the splits and merges, there are already a couple tutorial presets (in Setlist 8) that have two presets in one. One of em switches instant with a footswitch; the other smoothly blends between them with EXP 1. Both have spillover delay and reverb.

Multiple Assign Effect on more than 1 footswitch.

Cool. I make shoegazey noise rock, and as I'm building my MainStage/Helix rig, I'll probably be posting tips and tricks for getting the most out of complex automated rigs. -

Ah, gotcha. There are lots of higher-end MIDI controllers that can spit out SysEx and System Common messages to control literally every function within a Roland product (as Roland's MIDI implementation is DEEP). It's quite a bit different with an all-in-one system, where everyday programming needs to solve 95% of what your average person will throw at it. Admit it—you and I are probably in that last 5%. (It's a compliment!) 1) Currently, switches on Helix will only send one MIDI message, but there's nothing preventing us from expanding this. We'd just need votes on IdeaScale. The only tricky thing is that anything that adds to a preset's size (and this includes Command Center messages) will add to preset load time. So it's about finding balance. 2) Correct. For the record, these are the types of threads that I find the most fun. Cheers! -
Maybe. That's one of those situations where one wrong setting by someone who doesn't know what they're doing could totally screw up everything. I'm not personally comfortable with it, but if enough people vote on IdeaScale...

Yeah, you can instantly go from any preset to any other within a setlist. However, there's no preset spillover—the only modeler with preset spillover is the DigiTech GSP1101, and it dedicates half its DSP to spillover and only spillover. There are ways to seamlessly switch (or even dynamically blend) between two tones within the same preset, with delay and reverb spillover. We've even made a couple template presets for you.

I'm not sure if any product does what you want, but try this: Connect a MIDI cable from Helix's MIDI out to MIDI in. Be sure to set Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI Thru to "Off." Assign a MIDI CC message to various footswitches. Don't use a Helix Global CC (listed on page 48 of the manual). On the Controller Assign page, set feedback to respond to the CC message selected in step 2. You'll likely have to fine tune the CC values to recall the desired delay feedback values. Sometimes ease of use means purposely avoiding edge case functionality, while retaining solutions (MIDI loopback) for guys who are willing to dive a bit deeper. -
Do you mean you have an external device that can change its amp channels via MIDI? If the expected MIDI message to accomplish this is PC or CC, no problem.

Actually, Line 6ers—especially those who fix issues—read this forum way more.

Helix not remembering pedal position from one preset to the next
Digital_Igloo replied to xavierb's topic in Helix
Ideally, this should be a user-selectable setting. -
There are quite a few ways to set up Helix's switches: Bank Up/Down and 8 presets (normal Preset mode) Bank Up/Down and 8 stomps (normal Stomp mode) 10 stomps Bank Up/Down, 4 stomps on the bottom, 4 presets on the top Bank Up/Down, 4 presets on the bottom, 4 stomps on the top Preset Up/Down (no bank queue necessary) and 8 presets Preset Up/Down and 8 stomps Preset Up/Down, 4 stomps on the bottom, 4 presets on the top Preset Up/Down, 4 presets on the bottom, 4 stomps on the top Preset Up/Down and 8 stomps There's currently no way to, say, assign presets to FS2, 3, 6, and 8 and stomps to FS 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11, as presets are designed to be selectable in banks of four (or sequentially selected via Preset Up/Down). Warning: Rabbit Hole... For advanced users, you can stay in Stomp mode (either 8 or 10 stomps) and assign a MIDI PC message to any switch (1-5, 7-11, or EXP Toe) to recall any preset (and then custom label them after the presets). You'll need to run a MIDI cable from Helix's MIDI out to MIDI in and make sure you set Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI Thru to "Off" to avoid MIDI feedback. Currently, any PC value reverts Helix to the associated preset in Setlist 1, but this is a known bug—Normally, Helix should maintain the current setlist unless first receiving a MIDI bank select change (CC32/LSB).

When setting Preset Footswitch Mode to "Upper Row" or "Lower Row" (we call it hybrid mode), Helix doesn't move automatically move stomp switches to be visible—it's basically punching a hole into Stomp Footswitch Mode. So if there aren't any stomps on the upper row in Stomp mode, they won't appear in hybrid mode either. Fortunately, it's really quick to move them: From Stomp mode, touch the footswitch you wish to move. Touch the destination footswitch for two seconds and press Knob 6 (OK). Note that this won't move multiple assigned footswitches, nor will it move footswitches-as-controllers, Command Center messages, or custom labels. We asked a bunch of people and the vast majority preferred stomps on the bottom row, which is why we assigned them there by default.

Multiple Assign Effect on more than 1 footswitch.
Digital_Igloo replied to glassjawslipknot's topic in Helix
A single block can only be assigned to one switch. We do this because otherwise, it'd be really easy to get into a completely jacked up state where mental gymnastics would be required to get back to where you were. You could, however, assign the mix parameter to another switch (if the particular block has one).
