HELIX to L3T via L6 LINK - TRYING TO GET GOOD LIVE TONES
ShredRex replied to Deviltrex101's topic in Helix
Hi there. I am pretty much in the same boat as you.....but I use the helix with 2 L2T speakers and have great luck getting good thick rock metal tones live. But it took some tweaking and there is a, learning curve. I find the PV and Soldano amps are a bit high endy...and recently started using the modded JCM 800 (2204) amp model more for rock and metal tones. The biggest thing I found was finding the right IR. I LOVE 3 Sigma IRs and use them all the time, have several of them. My current fav is the Marshal 251 (V30) IR, and find the ACE 2A one works best for me. But I should also not I am cutting the high end out in the IR high filter back big time to get rid of all fizz and grainy artifacts. Really depends on what guitar I am using how much I have to cut highs, and a matter of finding the right balance between getting amp EQ setting right so the tone isn't dull and lifeless without being ear piercing. But believe me it can be done! Check out the Helix Channel on YouTube the guy there does some excellent EQ 101 tutorials :) -
I am very simple....I have one electric preset and one for acoustic that is it. I tweak as required based on guitar etc. But I don't keep them, I treat it as my virtual rig and pedal board.

I use mostly planet Waves for all connections but prefer bullet cables from guitar to helix when I am not going wireless.

Hey all. I am trying to sort out how to connect my Helix to with the 2 L2T speakers I have for band rehearsal, running my guitar and vocals through them. I would prefer to keep the helix connected via link as it seems to have a higher output overall connected that way. If I go out via the mono left output on the Helix to the line level input on the back of the L2T it still sounds good, just not the same compared to link. I don't want the Helix connected to channels on the mixer to eliminate extra fiddling etc. The way I have it now is - Helix to L2T via link, then fed over to the other L2T via link. My singer and bass player plug into the second L2T for vocals, and I route that back to the first L2T via the mix out (all inputs) to the line level. All works great and everything is coming out of both sides of the dual L2T setup...except the vocals on my side. If I plug into the first L2T that I have the guitar into via link, I only get the vocals on one side. I assumed link would also carry over the other mixer inputs to the other speaker, but it just the guitar coming though only? If I simply connect the L2Ts to each other via link, all inputs on either side works fine and come through both speakers. But as I noted earlier, if the guitar isn't plugged in via link, I find it really loses something and is just not up to par. Is it a scenario then where i will just have to deal with it and endure the one sided vocals from my speaker to ensure I can use link for my guitar signal from the Helix? I can tell you don't want to run another out from the mix out to the line input on the second speaker if link is already connected to the second....hard on the ears. Hope that makes sense :)

I have used Sennheiser HD 380 cans rated at 53ohms and they sound great with Helix. But I prefer the Beyerdynamic DT700 rated at 80ohms....those sond killer. No external amplifier required

I sold all my amps and my pedals and went helix into L2T speakers. And I don't regret it all 😎

I guess I am lucky I have 2 L2Ts and have not experienced anything like that. Can't imagine how much work it would be to open that sucker up since it is built like a tank. But good to know should the problem arise.

Q.And did that versatility come with a cost of reduced tone quality compared to 4CM setup? A. Nothing lost at all. In fact the guys were just saying the other night at rehearsal how killer the rig sounded and they can't believe it isn't really an amp. I have been really happy with it and don't miss my amps at all.

I use a Gator Gig box, removable pedal board holds my Helix and wireless receiver, ample cable storage underneath, and the lid holds 3 electric guitars and 1 acoustic.

3Sigma IRs are the bestest 😎🤘ðŸ‘

I went back on forth on this for ages....was using the Helix via 4CM method with my EVH amps for a while. But finally decided to go full FRFR with some L2T speakers and it just made things so much easier. I can use headphones and still have pretty much the same tone/sound (mind you using good studio headphones) and have all the versatility I need for any recording or gigging situation. It was a hard transition but like I said worth it.

I agree with other say...tone is subjective. But for me the upgrade to the Helix from the POD was a no brainer. I definitely think the amp modelling is superior and I have been using my L2Ts as the main output for both. I didn't notice a huge difference in all of the effects. but the ability to use IRs is what changed the game for me.

I was wondering the same....not looking like L6 has anything in the pipe of that nature. Not surprising really with the Stage Source speaker options. I run my Helix into 2 L2Ts and I can tell ya it has some serious balls. The guys were just commenting the other night at rehearsal how awesome the rig was sounding, and this is in comparison to my EVH amps. With the right IRs and some EQ tweaks the tones are there....anything is possible.

My current setup minis some of the guitars hanging on other walls 😎 Love the stagesource speakers BTW

I had the backpack, but returned it once I found the Gator Gig Box. Removable board holds my Helix as well as my wireless. Cable storage underneath, and the lid detaches and doubles as a guitar stand holding 3 electrics and 1 acoustic. Good deal for $260 CDN.

I managed to sort it out. Not sure but somehow the exp 1 was setup to also control another amp parameter as well as wah. Once I disabled that the wah is fine....New helix user here can u tell 😋
-
I have been searching regarding wah issues.....And cannot seem to find a fix for my wah problem. When I engage it, it is simply a distorted disaster. Tried lowering levels and mix....Still horrible no matter what wah I select. Yet everything else works fine. I put the wah in the front of my chain as I did on my HD500X. What am I missing? Any guidance you could provide would be appreciated 😎

Considering a second L2T
ShredRex replied to ShredRex's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Makes total sense thanks so much. You just saved me a lot of money. I would rather input the pod via link to my L2T, and run the output over to the board with my guitar and vocals mixed. -

Ok thanks for the reply. I run the pod into my side L2T with link, then I can simply connect the two speakers also with link correct? -
I sold my pedals and pedal board, then started using the HD500X via 4cm with my EVH amps. Now I am using a Soundstage L2T with the pod and getting ready to see if I can get by without actual amps. Scary but exciting at the same time.

Recently I decided to try out the L2M with my HD500X, long story short I was really impressed and decided I would try it at next rehearsal. I love my EVH amps, but looking to scale back and simplify. Up until the L2M purchase I have been using the Pod HD with my EVH amps via 4CM and was pleased with that as well. Once I decided I wanted to run the Pod and L2M at rehearsal, I also got to thinking how nice it would be to monitor my back up vocals through it as well. Easier said than done with the L2M, and I have since returned it for a L2T for the additional on board mixer feature. Now I have my guitar and vocals all monitored and coming out beautifully through my L2T. My question is....If I purchase a second L2T, and connect via link, I would then have the ability to have the singer and bass players vocals run through it along with my vocals and guitar correct? I would have one speaker on my side with guitar and vocals input to it, then the other speaker on the other side with the singer and bass player vocals input on the other speaker. This should work and sound pretty damn awesome am I right 😎
