I was thinking to maximize the current capabilities of the Firehawk, I am going to get an external pedal. I like to control the amount of volume and delay via pedal, or pitch bend and volume at the same time. Has anybody hooked one up yet? Also, do you have to get the line 6 EX-1, or will a different brand work?

Move the asign to pedal toggle to off

Dave, I have been monkeying with clean amps and adding distortion and OD's to them as well, but the reason this pedal sounds so great is because of the HD high gain amps - which sound massive on the firehawk. there is no way of achieving that HD high gain, heavy sound from adding effects to the clean amps, or even the less muddy american or Brit amps. If you don't need heavy High gain distorted amps, and can keep to stomping within one patch the firehawk is fine, but to take full advantage of the full range of sounds this beast can offer, you need to be able to switch full amp setups- as the HD500X can do- unless the lag can be addressed.

Maybe it will be best if I will upload an example.

" I wonder how much the audience would notice or care if you stopped playing the verse/chords after beat 1 or 2 of the last bar before your solo. That would give you ample time to switch presets during your guitar's silence and hit the solo with the new preset right on cue. Sorry, but in a live situation- this is too hard to do. I am the only guitar player in our band, and I have to make the transition as seamless as possible from verse/chorus/verse/solo. We strive to be a tight cover band, and the lag is too much, to the point it trainwrecks the song. Needs to be addressed.

This is all good info- thank you for the input. I think I will be keeping my Firehawk, and wait out the update for the reason that I would have to pay a restocking fee of 10% plus the 30 bucks for shipping.

Radatats - was there previously a lag issue with the HD500X which got fixed with a firmware update?
-
I hear ya Bryan, initially I wanted an HD500X, then I saw the FX100, but seen it did not have the features I needed, so when the Firehawk came out, I was all over it. I am milling over returning my Firehawk while I still can, but if the lag issue is addressed, I will keep it and not have to move to the HD500X.

Glad you are enjoying it- so am I , I do find the lag is noticeable especially if you are playing Live with a real tight rythym section.
-
In a nutshell - No. As far as I know, the tones, keys, etc of a song are not analyzed by the app.

Bryan- It is nice to know I am not alone- I need a reliable unit for live shows, and have not given up on the Firehawk just yet. I spent about 3 hours last night working on patches. One thing I can tell you is, I love the tones, and being able to switch out amps and cabs via the app in a split second to get the desired sound I need. I am trying to avoid the excess lag, by trying to create 1 patch per song- clean amp, stomp to rythym, stomp to lead, etc- but even then there are limitations. I love the heavy distorted amps on the unit, but I will not be able to use them effectively until the lag issue has been addressed. I have gigs coming up , and have practiced with my band once with the Firehawk- it was a disaster, tonight I will practice with my GT-10. Time will tell.

Been checking in the FX100 and the POD threads regarding the lag between switching patches. There are complaints, but I cannot see if there has been a resolution - Can anyone confirm that firmware updates on either of these two products fixed, or helped out with this problem?
-
Yes, I have used it with some success, you need to tweak it to match your hardware, but I have found some good tones which match up to songs quite well. Keep in mind it works off the songs meta data, not actual sound, so if you have an MP3 with the wrong song title and no meta data filled in, you will not get a matching tone- I find I use the tone search box more than the tonematching.

Yes, thanks for the video, I escpecially was curios about patch 9D - Killer queen- yours has next to no extra noise on it, unlike mine, which seems to have lots. I have been adding noise gate to most of my high gain patches, and I think I have eraticated the problem. I did noticed you stopped playing before making a patch switch- as mcbeddall asked above, how do you find the lag between patch switches?

Have your device connected with the FH, then stomp to the preset you want to change, then on the app go to the editor (page that has the effects chain along the top). Tap on the cloud icon in the top right. You should now have the page showing the patch data- tap on the name area, then change the name, then tap on the save icon at the top right, choose save to Firehawk FX. Done.

Yes it would be good to know if this was ironed out on the FX100 - I'm going to read through some of the Amplifi posts.

Left my device at home- no bluetooth connected or app running.

I have been building patches for the Firehawk to suit my needs, and arranging them similar to how I had them on my Boss GT-10. So, I figured time to test drive it at band practice. After all the ooh's and ahh's from the guys, because the thing looks so damn sexy, we got down to business, and it was clear by first break that this thing is not ready for live shows- All the guys in the band commented on how good it sounds, but, the lag in between patch switching throws everyone off, and they think I am not hitting my cue. Very noticeable on Dani California, where I have 4 different patches: A start sound, a modulated wah/talk sound, heavy distorted guitar, and overdriven lead, with wah. I have to switch patches back and forth about 20 times in that song, and if I don't think ahead, by about one second, it sounds like I am off. I bitched through practice, but found it very clear that this thing is not ready for prime time. Sure, you can try to design patches in a way where you can stomp the effects off and on, but you cannot get the range of sounds in one patch, and you have to do the "riverdance" just like with stomp boxes, which is basically what we are trying to get away from with these units. If this lag time does not get addressed in the next firmware update, I see it being a deal breaker for me. By Boss GT-10 had zero lag time.

Just created a patch for black keys lonely boy, which has the pitch drop using the pedal- the bender works great once you figure it out
-
Yes, if there was a utility either on the device or in the cloud could load or dump full banks, or groups of banks, or even all your patches at once, you could load full set lists, or practice tunes in a matter of a couple of minutes.

I was thinking that my buddy who works in a machine shop could make me some stainless sleeves which would fit over the buttons and elevate them, and possibly add a bit of angle (for separation from the other buttons)- that way you could configure them a bit more to suit your stance.
-
Yes indeed, a looper would be great- I am wondering about the temporary internal memory capacity of of the Firehawk- does anybody know what is available for a looper to be utilized effectively? (more than a few seconds)
-
Good to know- I am building a patch for lonely boy by the black keys, and am thinking I will have to use the bender for the dive bomb riff.

Here is my 4 cable method setup- it is recorded on my samsung tab, so the audio drops out in places, but the main thing is you can see where the cables all go. https://youtu.be/mQvnC8EmfUY

Yeah, I am continuing the trouble shooting, maybe reporting my problem via recording will shed light. Still rapping my head around the line vs. Amp setting. I get bad sound all around with the amp setting, and find that I have to crank the big knob up full to get any loud volume from my amp, so I am finding myself using the line setting for everthing I plug into, be it my amps, or direct.
