  1. I don't see any reason to keep it on while not in use. I do leave it on for all the Sunday services which ends up being 7:30-2:00, but I think it's best to power down the unit when you can.
  2. You can buy a longer VDI cable. I like Glenn's acoustic patch with acoustic-5.
  3. Do you have the little snapshot brackets around the Variax model?
  4. Where you input the Custom tuning for the Variax just press the knob down and turn it so that it's in the brackets. Then put in the correct tuning for each preset and you're good to go.

    Static noise

Do you know if there was phantom power on? If the board had phantom power on your channel it needs to be turned off or else you'll get a really bad hiss.
  6. Thank you...I'm not on Facebook so it's cool to get them direct
  7. What are some of the favorite 3 Sigma Audio IRs? I bought 6 and one Ownhammer and I was a bit overwhelmed by the choices on the Ownhammer...even using the quick folder. I may stick with 3 Sigma for awhile since they're easier for me to choose and I preferred the sound to the Ownhammer that I chose, which admittedly was only about 5% of the IRs available.
  8. I own all the patches and have used several live. I settled on his Matchless patches as my favorite and I tweak them as needed. His choice of cabinet sounds awesome, but I've started messing with IRs for some different flavor. I think Glenn's patches are worth owning.
  9. Mine does it too. Another user told me it happened to him until he reloaded his firmware and it went away. I reloaded mine, but it still happens. I'm just gonna hope it clears after the next install, if not, it's only a minor irritation.
  10. I thought about that Mono case too. It does look nice and spacious. I think I saw a pic of someone with an HD500x in the front pouch.
  11. I suppose that depends on how long you're out in the rain. Yesterday I got rained on from house to car then through a big parking lot and no water had gotten into the bag.
  12. Ok thank you...I've restarted it 4 times since updating and it rebuilds each time. The 2nd and 3rd times all got hung up on a certain preset so I had toggle the power switch. I'm bummed that I lost most of my patches, but I actually like the sound of one of the patches I had to make on the fly a little better so...there's a small upside.
  13. Should the new firmware be taking longer to load? Every time I turn the Helix on it takes a bit longer to load than before. It rebuilds my presets every time which I hadn't noticed before, but I could be wrong.
  14. Yeah it definitely starts to fit better. The bag wasn't available when I first got the Helix so I bought the Gator G-tour pedalboard case with wheels that worked really good with it. I just like throwing the Helix on my shoulders and going. So if anyone is in need of a Helix case and is in the Stockton area let me know. It's still brand new, but I can't justify owning both.
  15. Yeah I backed up the patches from the previous version, but when I import them all my effects are gone. Admittedly I didn't have a chance to really mess with it because I was in a hurry to get to practice, but I followed the steps as outlined in the support page. I like to build patches per song so I had hours of tweaks that I lost. Unfortunately I only had the backups in one place. My confusion comes from the patches being good when I backed them up, but no good when I try to restore.
  16. I ran the update today and lost most of my patches. The patches themselves are still there, but I lost all the effects within the patches. I assume I did something wrong. In all my previous updates I always skipped resetting the global settings, but I decided to do it right this time. I followed the instructions on the download page, but still goofed something up. Does anyone know what I might have done and if the patches are really gone?
  17. If that case works then perhaps their 12x24 hard case will work too.

    Annnnd.....

I had a convert a few weeks ago myself. Our acoustic player decided to get an electric setup. He got the Helix and a Variax.
  19. I've had mine for awhile. I agree that it's made with quality, but I still think it's overpriced. The zipper inside the main section always catches and prevents the zipper from sliding smoothly. One of the top corners on the Helix always seems to be sitting outside of the surrounding padding. And lastly the straps feel like a drop in quality. It looks really nice and it's great to have protection...I just think it's a sub $100 purchase.
  20. The best comparison I have is multi platform video games. When developers were making games for both the PS3 and Xbox they used the Xbox to develop the games and then ported them to the PS3. Even though the games looked great they weren't taking full advantage of the PS3's capabilites. This is similar because you were looking to recreate a tone you loved on the HD500x. I'd be interested to see an A/B of the same HD tone vs a similar tone on the Helix built from scratch.
  21. So I guessed correct? I think this isn't really a diss on the Helix since you were trying to recreate the tone from the HD. I think the Helix has the ability to sound a lot better. One of the biggest things for me is the high gain patches are much easier to dial in from the start. In fact I sold my HD to a friend and I was trying to help him dial in some tones and had to go through another bit of frustration to get all the stuff I used to like to work with his guitar.
  22. I love my Helix, but if I need to use alternate tunings I use my JTV. Like another user said I noticed these harmonic artifacts while playing. I wasn't sure if it was just the pitch effect, but it seems others in here agree that they're not the best. I'm glad it's working for you however.
  23. Well....having owned both I'll have to say this was difficult for me. Maybe my ears are weak, but I just couldn't tell a huge difference. That being said I'll put myself out there and say I think A is the Helix and B is the HD500x. In the later clips I felt A was a slightly superior sound. Always nice to hear some Little Wing!
  24. Analysis paralysis! It's all good...keep it as simple as you'd like. I'm typically not good with the deep edit parameters, but I appreciate that it's there.
  25. That's cool...I use an EON612 at home
