Yeah - it's super easy on the actual Helix itself :)

I was a bit worried about updating to 2.01 - as when I had updated to 2.0 it failed the first time I tried - and displayed some very odd hieroglyphics on the Helix screen. Thankfully second time 2.0 worked. However 2.01 worked first time, no problems and all is well :)

Still having issues with seperate outputs/effects

You don't need to add gain blocks before the outs.. if you select the XLR or 1/4 output you can assign controllers to their level directly. -

Are you using all 4 FX sends? If not maybe you can use one of those as your 1/4 in output to your stage amp. Then you can just put a SEND block just before the XLR output. That way you don't have to use Path 2B just to get to the 1/4in outs, and you can use it for parallel FX or whatever. -
Nice! Great to hear some more good news. I've not yet taken out my Helix with my folk band where I play double bass, mandolin and a bit of guitar - but I think I should judging by your result.

Finally had a day off today and got around to actually reprogramming some of my presets with 2.0 I am so impressed with Snapshots! They really make it possible to do all the switching that I wanted Helix to do - I bought Helix knowing it would not quite do what I wanted, but hoping that scenes would be introduced. I was kind of dreading reprogramming my presets actually, but Snapshots are very easy to set up! It's great that I can now send MIDI PC messages to my H&K tube amp and turn on and off multiple Helix FX with one switch. Heaven! Thankyou Line 6.

Yes that is definitey the way the gate should work. I was actually surprised when I added a gate after my amp block to find that it didn't do this already .. it makes the gate a lot less effective.

Great to see some bug fixes out so quickly! Good work Line 6 team :)

Helix USB VS Audio Interface (Output/Input Routing)
ricksteruk replied to Rezonator's topic in Helix
If I were you I'd set up an aggregate audio device, because as you say - then you won't have to re-plug things when you're not using Helix. This is on the apple support pages... https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202000- 6 replies

I'm sure that would work. I've had my Helix sending to 3 guitar amps (in Wet/Dry/Wet) and also to stereo PA speakers by XLRs so you should have no problems!
-
This is true. But if you have the Preset page set to "8 Snaphots" then when you press the bank up/down button it shows you 8 presets...

Very good information thanks! What a great idea. I'm sure I have a spare patch cable knocking about! Back in the old days I had fun making a Feedback loop with the mixer in my cassette portastudio, a rack mount compressor and a reverb unit.. got some crazy sounds.. a bit like an analogue synth!

So what's the score with this? What will happen when I select a new preset? What impedance setting will be loaded? Is there no way to set it? You are essentially saying I can't save the Guitar Z with the preset, because nothing happens till you select a snapshot right? So what will happen now? I was using 1Meg for my presets on 1.12 and was happy with that - with the new functionality I might try experimenting with lower z for fuzz, but it seems it's a bit of a mess!

Roscoe your work around for using IRs as a Global Cab is very good! Yeah . basically you could have 100 Helix presets all set up with an IR block set to IR1. All you have to do is just reload a new IR into Helix and you have a new global cab To do this with Helix Cabs Line 6 would need to have an option in the HX cab block that was "Global Cab 1".. there would then be another page (perhaps in the system settings) where you selected and set up your Global Cab. Any preset that had a Helix cab set to Global Cab1 would use those settings.

Snapshot icon taking up too much text space in scribble strip
ricksteruk replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
On a similar vein.. in Stomp mode how can you tell if your Stomp footswitch is in Latching Mode or in Momentary mode? Option 1) Just remember what your Scribble Strip labelled "SOLO with DELAY" will do Option 2) Put a large icon on to show that it's in Momentary (or Latching mode!) Line 6 went with option 1 for the Stomp switch, but went with option 2 for the Snapshots... Personally I would like some visual cue that my stomp is gonna be momentary.. but I usually can remember which ones I set that up on, so I wouldn't want to lose 6 characters from the name. Actually, I really don't see why the Snap Icon is needed at all under the current system. If you could set up a mixture of stomps and snaps freely on your Helix with say 2 snaps and 2 stomps on the bottom row, then perhaps it might be useful. But as we have to set it up with either 8 snaps, or the snaps on the top or bottom row - it's not that hard to differentiate between presets and snaps or stomps anyway - presets are obvious as they are called "02B Back in Black" for example... who could ever mistake that for a stomp or a snap? And as for SNAPS and STOMPS - they are always in exactly the same place. Your Snaps will always be the top row if that's what you've got in your global. Why do we need an icon for that? -

Yes I agree! Make the idea scale and I'll vote too :) -
Yes that must be it! The Helix PC message for each preset must be sent after the snapshot PC message. I've turned it off and it all works as it used to.. I must have forgot that I'd set that previously - obviously v2.0 erased my settings.
-
Wow! that was a very quick solution to my problem. Thank you very much Phil! You have well deserved Uber Guru status! :)

Ahh! so that would override the MIDI PC message in the Helix Snapshot / Preset ?

Since updating to 2.0, I've noticed that some presets don't sound right at all.. some that should be clean seem to have loads of gain on them. Been very busy at work for a while now, but today I've had a few more minutes to assess what's up with my presets since the 2.0 update. I've got about 35 user presets stored that I backed up just before I updated. I had noticed before that some Multiple footswitch assignments are now showing as "ON" on the LED ring when they should be showing "OFF/DIM" but that's not a major problem - easy to correct. Looking into it now something very odd is going on with MIDI PC messages. My H&K amp is connected in 4cm with my Helix. Helix sends MIDI PC messages to the amp for it to change preset/channel. It seems that Helix is sometimes sending completely different PC messages to those showing on the "Instant" in Command Center. For example: I have two Helix presets based on a Clean Channel sound in my H&K amp that is stored on MIDI PC 4. Both Helix presets are set to send MIDI PC4. (They both only have one snapshot) One of them seems to turn the amp to PC4 (no easy way to tell.. but it sounds right and is on clean channel as it should be).. the other one makes the amp switch to the Ultra channel. I've tried chancing the MIDI PC message in the second Helix preset, but it does't seem to make any difference - still it switches to that Ultra channel preset. I have no idea what actual PC messages Helix is sending (I should try connecting my mac to the Helix MIDI outs to find out) Anyone else have this problem? Is it a bug?
-
Hmmm.. I'd imagined we'd be able to decide which things we wanted to store in the Snapshot... It will probably work ok the way it is.. I hope so! Not really had a good chance to program in any presets yet.. been too busy at work.
-
Ahh. I hadn't sussed out what the "Snapshot edit" setting was for... so really the "discard" mode is actually more like a "performance" mode where you can play around within your snapshots without changing them. Whereas the other mode is more for building the Snapshots in the first place.
-
I agree that it would be better (for me!) to have the Snapshot capability alongside the stomps on the 10 stomp page. Did you see DI's hack for this?? If you connect a MIDI cable between Helix's MIDI out and MIDI in, then you can set up a MIDI cc to trigger a Snapshot from a Stomp footswitch - so yes you can make "10 Snapshots" from Stomp mode - unless you need to send Helix's MIDI elsewhere like I do :(
-
That would seem to make sense - but then you would be SENDing Line level into your JVM's Guitar input.. way too much signal level! You really need to use an Instrument Level SEND on Helix and a Line level RETURN... but you can only select the same for each pair of Send/Return
