  1. For the Ownhammer collections, I go straight to the OH1 and OH2 mixes in the "Quick Start" folder. They nail it for me.
  2. Dang, that was a cool tune. Some wicked arpeggios going on there at 2:50, impressive! Nice playing and nice tones (of course!).

    More IR slots

I am fully in agreement and have voted up all of the related Ideascale entries that I have found. Presently all of my slots are full and I could fill another 128 easily!
  4. I've never played a Big Sky nor heard (that I am aware of) Cloud and Bloom reverbs, but I have also taken to running Cave and Particle reverbs in parallel, then into a Plate reverb in series for "big" reverb textures, fantastic!
  5. I just installed a full compliment of the clear acrylic buttons on my Helix and I can confirm that you can indeed use the touch controls by touching the set screws. Excellent! I got the "Tall Boys" for the back row and the shortys up front. They are awesome. And with the colored rings lighting the clear acrylic from below, it really adds to the "spaceship" motif that Helix already has going on. Not cheap, but worth every penny in my book.
  6. I finally got my replacement Helix ready for action and loaded up a few of these IRs for a test drive. I made a Twin Reverb patch using the Bassman 410 (Raw/Vintage 05) and the Thiel EVM-12L (Raw/Vintage 05) in parallel and man they are tasty! They were both heavy on the low end, perhaps a characteristic of the "V3" series of captures that both of them are from? I rolled in a low cut at 60hz on each. Lots of punch in the cleans, nice and tight with some dirt, I like what they'e doing. Well worth my $5!
  7. I believe it's forum member PeterHamm that is fond of saying "It's not supposed to sound like an amp in the room, it's supposed to sound like an amp in the next room mic'd up and monitored in this room". Or something along those lines. That was the big revelation for me. Once I changed what I was listening for, I changed how I was crafting tones and everything got better. Like many of us I'm sure, I go back and listen to the stuff I recorded a year ago that sounded so good to me then and I cringe a little. Heck, I listen to stuff I recorded a month ago and I hear what I'd do different today! It's been a steep but enlightening learning curve. I think you're right, some directed training in the recording arts would be highly beneficial. <Speak of the devil! PeterHamm's post came in as I was typing mine...>
  8. You can run them in parallel across DSPs by splitting path 1, putting an IR on 1A downstream of the split, running 1A to output, 1B down to 2A, then another IR on 2A and/or 2B. I've done that to get three cabs in parallel. Never encountered any phasing issues, but that was with the Helix cab IRs, not third party. For whatever that's worth. Interesting about the Fractal IRs not being phase compensated the same way, I wonder why it's not a concern for that format? Or at least why Ownhammer doesn't address it in the Fractal files? I'll have to do some comparisons...
  9. This issue is mentioned briefly in this thread from July 2016, when 2.0 launched: http://line6.com/support/topic/21531-a-word-of-warning-about-helix-20-update/page-2 See post #51
  10. Yeah, the Gibson GoldTone 1012 is one that's gone. Glad I nabbed it when it was around, 'cause I really like it! There is a new 1012 listed, based on a Tyler Amp Works cab with a couple of different speaker combinations. I've got it as well although I haven't spent much time with it as yet. The others I've got that have since been disappeared are the 112 DLXVRB (Deluxe Reverb, evidently superseded by the newer 112 DVRB collection), and the 212 VX30 and VXT (AC30 Top Boost and Extension cabs, presumably superseded by the new Class A Dynamic Duo collection?). None of those come up in a targeted search. Regarding the Nebula stuff, I read this on his FAQ: "New advancements in the sampling process since those libraries' releases and several excessive and potentially impossible maintenance requirements have rendered those projects not suitable for new sales. New Nebula sampling projects will potentially begin development in 2018 or 2019, depending on the development queue and interest in the platform at that time." http://www.ownhammer.com/faq/ I don't know anything about Nebula myself, but it sounds like he hasn't abandoned the platform just yet...
  11. I have several of his offerings that have since been discontinued, however none of them came up in a search. Just an error that "No products match your search criteria". So it isn't the case that all products removed still dwell in the background. Maybe he just forgot to un-check a box when he pulled these specifically?
  12. I found myself browsing through the Ownhammer website last night, as I often do, when I noticed that using the local search function was returning some results that were not "on the menu", so to speak. Specifically, I found these: 4x10 Bassman cab with Eminence Legend 1028P speakers http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_127_143&products_id=343 1x12 Boogafunk Thiel cab with Electro Voice EVM-12L Classic speaker http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_127_144&products_id=344 1x12 Boogafunk Thiel cab with Electro Voice EVM-12S speaker http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_127_144&products_id=345 1x12 Boogafunk Thiel cab with Electro Voice SRO-12 speaker http://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_127_144&products_id=346 $5 each. Perhaps there are more little nuggets in there to be found? I was already putting in an order, so I snagged the Bassman pack to check it out. I'm away from home and I'm waiting on the arrival of my replacement Helix anyway (service issues with my old one...) so I haven't had the opportunity to hear them yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Digging through the file folders it's a different kind of offering from other Ownhammer stuff I have. There are far fewer IRs (75 total in this pack). Instead of the usual smorgasbord of individual mics, there are just a handful. And instead of the usual OH1, OH2, SP2, etc... mixes, there are Modern and Vintage. Each mic and mix IR is offered as a "Precise" version with perfect phase alignment and a "Raw" version with some phase smearing. It seems to me that this IR pack was built around those mixes and the individual mic files are just the ingredients that went in to making them. I hope someone else finds this as intriguing as I did!
  13. Global FX Loop Labels https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Global-FX-Loop-Labeling/898013-23508 I propose an option whereby the default label for an FX loop (i.e. "FX Loop X") could be changed to a custom label, for instance the name of the pedal in the loop, and that custom label would be applied automatically whenever inserting that FX loop into a preset. While I'm certain there are exceptions, presumably the pedal(s)/gear being used in a given FX loop probably aren't changed all that often, and as such it seems likely that they will be the same for every patch that the loop is used in, generally speaking. This would save the user having to re-label the loop each time it is used. Likewise, when a pedal is replaced with another in an FX loop and the loop is re-labeled, I propose an option where all instances of that loop would automatically reflect the new label. This would save the user having to change the label in every preset where the loop is used if they choose to change what is in the loop. Of course I'm certain there are many conceivable situations where this behavior may be undesirable, and as such I think it best implemented as an option rather than a default function. Perhaps re-naming the FX loop block within the preset in the conventional way would work as per normal, but a naming option in the Globals could exist to behave as described above.
  14. I really like his demo pieces, but I always get caught up in his playing and composition and forget to pay attention to what he's demo'ing. At any rate, really good stuff.
  15. I agree, I was very surprised to see it dropped from the catalog. I do wonder what drives that. Once you've done the work of capturing and packaging the IRs, what's the reason to take it off the market? Maybe just marketing to drive up demand for the new stuff, "get it before it's gone!" Curious at any rate.
  16. Great write up, thanks! This collection sounds very appealing to me. I've got Ownhammer's Vox 2x12 VX30 (Top Boost) and 2x12 VXT (Extension) cabs and I get a lot of use out of them. Evidently they've both been discontinued! Another of my favorites, the Gibson GoldTone 10/12 was also recently discontinued; you've really got to jump on his stuff while it's around! I've got 3 Sigma's AC15 1x12 but the speaker offerings in the Ownhammer package are VERY intriguing. Really makes me long for more IR slots, 'cause mine are all full! Still, given his proclivity for making his IR packages disappear, I may just grab it anyway...
  17. A valid point! I take good care of my gear, there has been no rough handling. The unit I sent back still had the original screen protectors on all of the displays! Of course, in my industry a 3-pound hammer would be considered quite delicate, so I suppose it's all relative! :P
  18. Bummer that it will take longer than anticipated, but it is good to hear that they're making the repair. Given that this component seems to have a fairly high failure rate (based on user accounts, I don't know anything statistically), I wonder if they are using a more robust part now?
  19. No doubt! I will say that I suspect the definition of "irreparable" changes a bit when you step out of warranty country.
  20. I received my credit from Guitar Center this morning, placed the order for a new Helix (with 36 month Pro Coverage...) online and it'll be at my house when I get home from my work travels. Guitar Center has always done right by me and this has been no exception. To express my appreciation, I ordered an Earthquaker Devices Erupter fuzz as well.
  21. That it is! I was wondering about the introduction of refurbs myself, wouldn't be too surprised. It would be better than seeing otherwise functional devices hit the landfill... Yeah, that is one way of looking at it. I'm more of the mindset that it should be able to withstand normal wear and tear, and if it's going to fail I want it to do it while it's covered. Would be a shame to baby it just long enough for it to get out of warranty before failing.
  22. I had been under the impression that they utilized manufacturer approved repair facilities, but I couldn't actually find anything concrete to that effect. I do hope the old one doesn't end up in a dumpster, but assuming this goes as anticipated it's tough to argue with a new unit.
  23. Agreed! It would be an excellent companion to a clipping indicator...
  24. It's a third party repair shop, not in-house. Not entirely convinced it's a matter of "can't", it may very well be internal machinations. Still, it was unexpected. This was kind of my take on it. I'm good with it, it will give me an opportunity to renew the protection plan, which certainly came through for me on this one.
