    Helix DT 25

Radatat, Are you saying that the midi commands are sent over L6 or do you have a seperate midi connection?

    Helix DT 25

The FX return on the DT-25 is after the master volume so there is potential for some very loud noises if you get the master on the Helix wrong. That why I went the L6 way. Craig
  3. Maybe if I tried it on a Marshall model it would be 50hz 😀 Craig
  4. On a similar subject, I was messing with the hum setting on a power amp model and thought that it sounded really wierd. Then I realised that they've modelled 60hz hum and I'm used to 50hz hum here in the UK. Maybe that's just being a bit too pedantic 😀 Craig
  5. That's Michael Ward, a really tasty guitarist. I saw him playing with Ben Harper on the tv recently and he really stood out as a great player. I can't help with getting the tone but I'll be interested in the results. Craig
  6. Ok, with my engineer's head on, why couldn't you just put a terminating resistor in the Helix end jack plug, assuming the Helix input is a higher impedance than required of course. Craig
  7. Good point Phil, Like I said, I was only thinking out loud. Craig
  8. But an IR transforms a FRFR into a 4x12 so why couldn't the reverse be true? Craig
  9. I'm just floating an idea here, I'm using a Helix with a DT25 using L6 link and I'm still finding that I prefer the sound if I turn off the cab in the Helix and turn on a cab in the amp. But what if there was an IR that in effect turned the DT25 into a FRFR? That could just be dropped in last in the chain and then you could use all the cabs in the helix to their full effect. Would that be possible? I've no idea how an IR is made. Craig
  10. Apologies psarkissian, I had just got the impression that people had been replacing fuses with higher rated ones when they blew. I was just trying to warn against such practices. Craig
  11. My DT25 says T2.0 AL for 110-120V or T1.0 AL for 220-240V I seriously doubt that the DT50 requires a 10A fuse. Fuse carriers themselves often have ratings on them but that is their maximum rating not that required by the device it is protecting. Maybe I've misunderstood something Craig
  12. It sounds like you won't need to pay for any accommodation when you come over :-)
  13. A small victory, I'm coming to the conclusion that my setup sounds better with just an amp model in the Helix and a cab sim in my DT25 rather than an Amp+Cab+Mic in the Helix, the trouble is most patches are built with Amp+Cabs or separate cabs. Now I've been able to export a preset, load it into Notepad++ and change the Amp+Cab to just an Amp (of the same model) but retain all it's settings then re-import it into the Helix :-) Craig
  14. This is the kind of thing that I love dabbling with but I've noticed with Notepad++ than some presets open as described but otheres just show as one long line. Has the format been updated somewhere along the line? Craig
  15. Cool story, I'm about 200 miles north of London. We normally visit a couple of times a year, last year was to see David Gilmour at the Albert Hall and this year we're going to see the Pink Floyd exhibition at the V&A for my birthday!
  16. Yorkshire, we use valves here :) Craig
  17. That's a very passionate reply psarkissian and one that I will file away for the future when I may need new valves (I'm British btw ) :-) Craig
  18. I have to disagree with you Hoghntrpa, the only suitable replacement for a fuse is one identical to that fitted by the manufacturer. Craig
  19. No the tuner reference only goes down to 426 HZ but Phil is correct, it's chromatic so what does it matter? Craig
  20. Thanks for the explanations guys, So if I think a patch sounds better with an Hiway 4x12 in the DT25 then with the equivalent Helix cab then I should go for it and frodebro has provided good logic why it should be that way. I just need to delve into command centre to learn how to change it to Fender twin when that is required. At least all the time I'm spending playing around with this I have a guitar in my hands and that can only make me better :-) Craig
  21. I recently bought a pod HD500X and a DT25 as my first step into modelling, I loved the interaction with the two but I struggled to dial in any decent sounds on the pod. Anyway I was offered a decent price on a Helix so the pod is now on Ebay. I'm a little confused with amps and mics, on the pod there was an option to turn off mic sims if you were going into an amp rather than a FRFR system but I can't find similar on the Helix. I've found that I prefer the full amp models over the preamp only's but I'm finding that I prefer the sound if I turn off the cab and turn on an cab sim on the DT25. I would expect that the Helix cabs would be better that the DT25 ones but I do think it sounds better without the mic sims and I don't understand why I would want a mic sim in there if I'm listening to my amp. I fully understand why you'd want one if I was recording or DI'ing into a PA but not in my room blasting away. Can someone enlighten me please? I am using L6 link to the amp and understand that I can change cabs sims and topologies with midi but I'm wanting to get the basics in my head before I delve deeper. Thanks in advance Craig
  22. Replacing a fuse with a higher rated one is a very bad idea, by all means replace it with a fuse of the same rating but if it blows again the amp needs to go to somebody that knows what they're doing. I'm glad you got it working again but a blown transformer and an incorrect fuse could have easily resulted in a fire. Craig
  23. When I first connected mine up with L6 link I had some weirdness, it was caused because I still had midi connected to my PC and I think it was echoing midi in to out. If I started up the DT editor it stopped, I guess because it took over control of the midi port correctly. Craig
  24. Sorry I missed that bit that you'd already tried a reset, I'm glad you got it working though. Craig
