  1. MarkeG, I use a Sennheiser HD280 headphones and all of Freman's patches sound great coming out. I own the Megapack, and the only "back track" that I'm aware of are the synth pad tones, which are a lot of fun!
  2. rhythm / lead of Malmsteen, Vai, or Satriani. Or just other generally awesome metal artists !
  3. This type of video tutorial is really cool. Thank you for making / posting. Keep up the good work.
  4. Hey thenickhil81, That is a really nice tone. Very cool you stayed on "on-board" with this. Would love to see a tutorial of you making this and explaining what were your thoughts when crafting this patch. Cheers
  5. I have all the Freeman packs, Mega pack I think is the best pack. Try his starter pack, its cheap and it will give you a good idea of what you are in for with the rest of them.
  6. Big congrats my dude. I upgraded from a Boss GT-8 to the Helix. The difference has been Life Changing. happy for ya my dude
  7. I'm also getting drop outs using the SPDIF as well as described on this thread. Hopefully this gets resolved soon !
  8. I got all of Freeman's patches and the ones I've gone through are just so much fun. Anyone have any suggestions for distorted / OD with a over the top Wah in one of his packs? Thanks
  9. Never had to touch this before in my previous set build. Not sure why it reset. Thanks for the solve.
  10. Hey guys, I use Helix as a sound card for my computer, I USB plug into my computer and use spidif out to my speakers. This is so I can have my computer sound as well as my guitar coming out of the same speakers at the same time. All I have to do is change playback / record devices and change the input on my speakers to the spdif coax. When I turn off my helix I just set recording / playback device to realtek sound drivers for normal computer use. After the update, when I change it to the spdif on my speakers, I just get guitar sound and no computer sound. Realtek default is just computer sound. Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks!
  11. Ill just reiterate what everyone else is saying in this thread. Totally dependent on amps / effects / etc. Technology plays more of a part in your sound then the guitar does at this point in time... At least that is the way I feel.
  12. So when I'm transferring patches and or IR's to the helix through the Helix app it will fail. What happens is I'll transfer a group or singular patch to the Helix and the app will will freeze for a second and it will come up with the orange banner at the top saying "device timed out" or "service not available" or "unknown device communication error" or some other error message. The app will then disconnect from the Helix itself. I have to turn it off and on again to connect. This is a strange problem because I'll retry the group or singular patch / IR and it will work. Some IR's Patches though will never transfer back to the helix and always cause a crash. The helix / program are up to date. Any one else experiencing this?
  13. I had the same problem. My helix was defective, I ended up exchanging it for a new one. My best advice before exchanging it is: Try a different computer (took me 3 different computers before it worked) Try a different usb port try a different usb cord make sure the usb is plugged directly into the motherboard unplug all usb devices except your mouse and the helix and then update (this worked for me) try a manual install, log into the helix in offline mode or use upload a file option. Download the firmware update from the forums and then try uploading it with this method make sure you follow the install firmware instructions EXACTLY Best of luck.
  14. PB-272 What is your hardware? I'm using basically the Helix along with with my Sennheiser HD Pro 380. I have Marshal AVT 275 that I don't use very much because it doesn't sound as good my headphones or my computer speakers. EDIT: If you can provide a link to what you got, I'd like to to see it. He likely uploaded a video for that pack.
  15. Silverhead makes a point. Specially because I upgraded from a Boss GT-8 to a Helix. I played with the gt-8 for over 10 years. I must have went through thousands of patches on the boss forums, not counting my own. My own creations always felt and sounded the best. 90% of custom patches needed to be heavily modified on my set up to be even playable. Jumping to the Helix has been a complete life style change for me. Going back to my GT-8, and those old patches literally hurts my ears. Now that I'm older, with a lot less time and a bit more money then I used to have; I'm more interested in adding a lot of good base / template tones to my helix. To finally have those sounds that I could only dream of. I will say that after browsing custom tone, I have a few favorites of mine that require little to no tweaking: Dream Clean: This patch is just fantastic, the clean tone is just great, and the distortion part of the patch is really nice. I like starting out clean and bursting into a distorted riff. This patch does that. It's unique and different enough from the stock patches. Another fantastic done that is odd, deep, and just fun to play with is: Buckethead Big S: By Vitass. For me, this tone sounds 90% like the buckethead song Big Sur Moon. The delay idea performance is fantastic, and gives play to Ewan Dobsons "Time 2". Not to mention, this patch is just plain fun to experiment with your own stuff. specracer986 Thanks for answering my inquiry. I appreciate your insight. I am very much interested in look at Freeman and Delarune. I am a Floyd fan, and would love to add a sound of theirs to my library. I am a big Dream Theater fan as well, and it seems Delarune has a patch or two similar to John Petrucci's Mesa output.
  16. Hi guys, Having recently bought the Helix and now being able fluently use it and navigate all the menus, I am now interested in custom patches. So, what are your favorite custom patches on the line 6 helix custom tone page? Favorite patch artists? Favorite patches from patch artists? General favorite tones?
  17. A few tips: Have 2 helix's OR Go to guitar center / Sam Ash and buy a helix. Each have a 45 day return policy. Use it, then when you're done, return it. Just keep it in mint condition
  18. DunedinDragon, Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it. It turns out my Helix was defective. I exchanged it for a new one. I have no problems guitar pro or power tabs midi sound. I'm about ~3 hours into my new helix and haven't lost sound yet. It is looking hopeful that this issue is resolved. This forum is great. Thanks to everyone that replied in this thread.
  19. I did have errors / exceptions in the event log relating to the helix. Support ticket told me to use another computer to reinstall 2.21. Seems like it fixed most of the issues I was having. Third times the charm I guess. Guitarpro / power tabs is working instead of crashing now, but I still don't get any sound coming from those two programs. Is there an option I need to enable on the helix so it plays midi? Thanks
  20. Soblivion, I built my computer back in 2012. It was a high end computer when I built and still runs very well. Build: I7-2700k cpu Asus P8-z68 motherboard. GTX 1080 GPU 900 watt PSU 16gb 1600 mhz crucial ram 250 gb ssd 1 tb ssd 2 tb storage Windows 10 I've tried multiple USB ports on my mobo including my 3.0's. I tried my friends computer which is a different custom computer he build a few years ago. My power settings are not set to conservative since my PSU is very powerful. I'm thinking my USB installed corrupted firmware and is screwed. I am not sure.
  21. Let start out with my set up, its pretty simple. I have my Helix USB connected to my computer, and a digital coax into my speakers. This is so I can have my computer sound and my guitar sound coming out of the same speakers at the same time. So the first thing I did when I got my helix is update to 2.21 from 1.6. I followed the instructions here: http://line6.com/support/topic/18284-latest-helix-firmware-221%E2%80%94april-27-2017/ I followed the instructions exactly as laid out. However the update failed, and the helix was stuck in a continual update mode. I spent a long time using various versions of the helix software and different patches and it all failed.... Long story short I saw a post where someone said unplug all USB's except mouse and helix and update. And that worked. I later found that the USB cable that came with my helix was faulty and caused the issue. So the weird problems began. I would randomly get "shell common dll has stopped working" in windows sound menu when setting helix to default recording device. Helix software didn't recognize the device but windows did. I would randomly lose sound from the helix but not my computer. Rebooting helix brings back sound. I later put in a new USB cord, reinstalled the firmware and that seemed to fix the helix software not seeing the helix. But I still have these problems: When scrolling through the helix presets with the preset button or the joystick. I will lose sound. I have to reboot the helix for sound to come back. This is weird because sometimes I can scroll through a lot of presets and have no problems. Other times I will scroll through a few and lose sound. But ultimately scrolling through the helix presets in the preset menu with those buttons, I will lose sound. I still get a " shell common dll has stopped working" error in the window sound menu, though it doesn't happen as often. Turning off the helix stops the error. Turning it back on it seems fine and am able to switch to the default recording device. This problem is weird, I cannot recreate it. It just happens randomly and not all the time. Lastly maybe this is the easiest thing to fix maybe, but neither powertabs / guitarpro play. When you hit the play button, both programs just freeze. I don't have any issues with these two programs when running through windows sound. Both programs set the output to the helix automatically. Not really sure what the issue is, maybe because it outputs sound as midi? But I don't see what that is a problem. Any help / suggestions / tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you! edit: when I reinstalled using a good USB cord. Helix froze at rebuilding patch 899. I had to turn it off, then off again. Not sure if that means anything.
  22. I have a pair of senheisser hd pro 280. What do you guys think of those? I do plan on getting monitor speakers down the road... any suggestions ? I was just hoping really play to a back track over my speakers for friends
  23. hey guys, thanks for the clarification on that harmonizer. I thought it was smart, didn't realize it wasn't. Still can't wait to try it out. I use Logitech z5500 speakers, they are the typical 3.5, but they have 2 coax inputs. Ultimately my goal is to have sound from my computer, while having the helix sound outputting at the same time. It seems like I will need a new audio interface for this. Do you have a suggested cheaper solution to this?
