The internet got me back into playing. I was too frustrated trying to learn songs back in the 60's. Now I can find tabs online. I have a software package called Transcribe that I use to figure things out. That is a great program! You can change tempo without changing pitch so you can slow down a riff to where it's easier to see what notes are played. It also shows the notes being played on a piano keyboard. You can also retune a song that is recorded out of tune (common) so that it sounds much better when you play along with it.

Line6, maybe seek out specific Amps instead of specfic models
Charlie_Watt replied to Palico's topic in POD HD
Creating these models involves using very fancy equipment to characterize the amp. It's not something you can create yourself. I agree that it would be cool to say - this model is of Joe Blow's famous amp. I'm sure that Line6 does make sure that the amp they characterize is in proper working condition and that it sounds like it should. Same with the guitars they modeled for Variax. -
JTV69 Mag PU output terribly weak.

If it sometimes works, you have either a bad cable or a bad connection somewhere. Those problems can be hard to find. You can send it in and they send it back saying NPF (No Problem Found). When it's weak is it weak in all pickup positions? If so, then it's not the 5 way switch. The good news is that the circuit for the mags is very simple and same as a regular guitar when you have the battery out of your JTV. -
HD500x firmware updated but flash won't update to 2.61

My Norton Antivirus SW hates Monkey. It uninstalled it every time I tried to install. I finally figured out how to get it installed then it worked like a champ. I think there is something about how monkey goes out to the Line6 Server that gets the Antivirus software suspicious. I have had that with several computers. -
Sorry! I thought I was in the Pod HD forum. I don't have an Amplifi so I can't comment on how good the factory patches are.

Go for it but most are unusable anyway.

I always have the urge to take things apart to see how they look inside. :-) Like the first thing I do when I look at a car is look under the hood. I am careful not to break things. I had all the covers off my JTV the first weekend after I got it. -
It's not in Edit which I think sort of sucks. I never twiddle the knobs. I like to use Edit.

Just Glue it back on. No problem. -

It would have been more straight forward to say - it's ok to open the back. -
That is very strange. It almost sounds like a problem with the HD500x if it works on the XTLive. The interface should be the same.

Who said you could not open the back? I did that the first day I got mine to see what it looked like. No I don't think they eliminated the path from the trem to the board. They want those wires floating so that they don't interfere with the trem action anyway. I don't have a problem with string breakage. Can't remember the last time I broke one. -
They had a long strike. I was out there two weekends ago and there were ships lined up outside of LA. They were back in business but they have a huge backlog.

I built a champ clone years ago and it's a fun little amp - especially in a small room. Remember that these were designed in the 50's and were really a practice amp. They originally only had an 8 inch speaker.

The 300 should work fine. It does not draw any more power than the 500 or 600 or 700. They all run on batteries or VDI. He either has a bad cable or a bad Variax. The 300's did have problems with shorts in the "coffin" case. I use my 500 with VDI all the time and it has never had a problem.

Repetitive rebooting of 500x after attempt at flash upgrade
Charlie_Watt replied to tcell's topic in POD HD
I have found that downloading the FW first works much better on my laptop and wireless internet connection. I got timeouts a couple times when I did not do this. I now always first download all of the SW and FW updates before doing them. -
The 69S neck is smaller in width than my Strat neck - but I also have very small hands so it's a good fit for me. I can see that for folks with large hands or fat fingers, that it could be too narrow. I like bolt on neck guitars because you always have the option of swapping out the neck for one you prefer. If I did not like the neck on my 69S, that is what I would do.

It's nice to hear that someone has actually touched one of these. Glad you felt it was Strat Like. IT should be.

Ghost Installation Step-By-Step Variax 500
Charlie_Watt replied to leesteel's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Yes. There is not a whole lot of room for a service loop. I left mine a little long and let it go forward in the slot especially on the saddles that I knew would end up further back. -
You can blend mags and models in Workbench too and then it comes out the 1/4 inch.
-
To keep them authentic, Line6 has modeled some of the non ideal features of some of these amps. Hum and ghost notes are two I can think of. I like that as long as you can dial it down since I can't think of any good reason to have modeled hum.
-
These amps did hum and they modeled that. You can turn it down if you don't like the "realism". :-)

Ghost notes in Drop tunings

Since they have already had to release two fixes for the HD500x, it makes sense to wait a few days. I too will wait.
