I would not have thought that there was enough string not touching something on the JTV60 Bridge to vibrate but clay-man has found this. I can't get any vibration back there on my bridge. The string touches it right behind the piezo. It can't hurt to put a thin piece of tape there though as long as it's behind where the string contacts the piezo.

Somebody here already got his.

TRS is only useful if you are using an external supply like the XPS. Doesn't do anything for you if you are running in battery mode.

I mentioned that I had the HD500X (not the 500)

Can my luthier repair my JTV69?
Charlie_Watt replied to guitar4u's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have seen several posts for upgrading pickups and there is a connection diagram for the pickups posted. I have never seen any kind of schematic posted. I have not looked at the pots. It's easy enough to do that but I have not. Some repair parts are available from Full Compas? Not sure about the pots but you could check. I doubt that replacing one is very hard if you have an exact replacement. (Pretty darn easy) -

The volume and tone pots are a little more complicated on a JTV because the computer has to read them and they also affect the mags. (not sure if they are dual pots or not but they may be) -
I have done all of my JTV updates through my HD500x with the long cable hooked up. Never had a problem with that.

Is it still under warrantee? If so, I would go through Line6 Channels to get it fixed. If not, you can decide if you want someone else to work on it. -
Piezo pickups are actually quite simple. They often get a bad rap on a Variax when it's really a connection or mechanical issue that causes problems. We use them as vibration / shock sensors in Hard Drives so I have had lots of experience with them. If you look up the Piezo-electric effect you will find out how they work.
-
Piezos are mechanical vibration sensors. Problems often occur when there is something buzzing or vibrating that isn't the string it's supposed to be monitoring. Regular magnetic pickups only sense the moving string and they are not going to pick up other vibrations as much - unless they affect the string vibration.

Glad to hear they are finally surfacing. Let us know how it plays and sounds!

I have to start cleaning out my old stuff - the Altair may be something I can unload this summer.

I still have my Altair but I don't have any of the stuff that I built for it.

High E string slipping on the JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I would love to see those specs. Pickup height is no different than on a standard Strat though. Any guitar sounds funky if you set the pickups too high due to the magnetic pull on the strings. -

I agree. Anyone who knows how to set up a solid body electric guitar can set up a JTV. You do want to minimize fret buzz. -

Filing the nut takes a bit of technique but it should not be that expensive to have it done right. You need the proper nut files. I have a set for 10's that I use to adjust nut height. I have screwed up a few nuts learning how to get it right. I like to adjust my string height at the nut as low as possible to make the guitar easier to fret on the first and second fret. It's easy to go too low. A good setup is worth the cost though. -

The critical thing with nut setup is that the break away (last string contact point) should be right at the front of the nut (towards first fret). I do not see anything obviously wrong in your pix because I can't see where the string last contacts the nut going towards the first fret. The slot has to be wide enough to not restrict the string movement when tuning / bending. The bottom should be rounded to the diameter of the string. If the string is vibrating in the slot, then the last point of contact is too far back in the nut. -
The pod has stereo outputs (L and R). They just are not in one single jack. I don't see the issue.
-
It has left and right outputs. You can combine them with a Y cable if you want to go to a TRS plug. I use the left and right XLR outputs and connect both cables to my powered speaker. The speaker then combines the L and R signals. (not stereo of course)

For Those Of You Working On Building The "Dream Rig"
Charlie_Watt replied to robbieb61's topic in POD HD
JTV's seem to be plenty available. My guess is that they are low enough volume that Line6 only has them built in batches when they run low on inventory so it's hard to tell when they will stop making them. The Standard is not a JTV replacement. I have no idea what they are doing with the DT amps. -

No string movement in my nut. Did you check what strings you have on yours? -
What is with the new Fonts on the Forum?
Charlie_Watt replied to Charlie_Watt's topic in Line 6 Lounge
Not fixed for me either. The fonts are all slanted in the main topics.
