Can't decide on neck
Charlie_Watt replied to sulkbooth's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The Sweetwater pix are useful though. They are of the actual guitar and I have seen setup problems in some of them. I look for the strings to be nicely centered on the neck at the bridge end and for the strings to be centered over the pickups. When I bought mine, there were four to choose from and the pix were helpful. I don't like buying guitars mailorder but it's hard to find JTV's in guitar stores and often, they have been abused. -
High E string slipping on the JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Graphtech nut. Maybe you have the wrong strings on there. Mine came with 10's and they fit nicely in the nut. I use 10's and I have not experienced any nut problems. (sounds painful) -
Can't decide on neck

There are a ton of these guitars out there. Some don't like the neck. Some do like it. Get it and play it and decide for yourself. If you don't like it, you can either return it or replace the neck with one that you do like. That is an advantage to this design with a bolt on neck. -

Fixing a nut isn't a big deal. Get it set up by an experienced luthier if you don't know how to do it yourself. -
Brand New JTV89f - Dive bombing issue

It's the Floyd that causes the strings to go so slack in a dive bomb. It won't happen with the 69's bridge. -

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to guitar necks. I have a JTV69S and I really like the neck. Yes it is narrower than most. That's why I like it. My hands are smaller than most. -
What do the display lights indicate?
Charlie_Watt replied to mpecoraro01's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I suppose it is some test mode. Never noticed it. I just push it once to see the state of charge of the battery. -
Easiest way is to save the songs one at a time and then drag them back in in the new order. You only have to save them once. Next time just drag them in in the order of your set list. (Remember to save them to the Pod)

Plug your mic into the mic input and select input 2 as mic. Dial in to your liking.

Attention Line 6 some honest feedback from a new user..pros and cons
Charlie_Watt replied to awesomejohn7's topic in POD HD
I disagree. Good presets would sound ok to almost anyone. Not great but they could be tweaked to your taste and to your equipment. Most of the factory presets are not up to those standards. Compare them to the new Variax presets. Those are much better to start with - not way overdone. And I would not mind at all driving Jeff Gordon's car. (not like him of course but it would handle better than most)- 45 replies

Wanted to buy the new HD Models bundle but had to pay 24$ in taxes

They were doing that back in the 70's where I lived. Back then they had two meters. One ran at night, other during the day. -

If the strings are lifting off the piezos, you will get no sound. That is a mechanical setup problem. -

A cheap power switch is far worse than none at all! I just use a power strip to power the pod and my powered speaker. The power strip has a switch. If it had a switch, I wouldn't use it anyway.- 45 replies

Find the source of the buzz. Try other places in your house. Do you have lamp dimmers, ceiling fans? Those things put out lots of EMI that your guitar's single coils will pick up. Check the grounding of your outlets. That can be a safety issue as well.

High E string slipping on the JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I don't think the setup for a Variax is much different than for any other electric guitar. You don't want the action so low that you get lots of fret buzz but it doesn't have to be higher than normal. I like my string height at the nut as low as possible to make it easier to fret the chords down near the nut. Most guitars come out of the factory set too high at the nut. Strangely, my JTV69s was very well set up at the nut and the action was actually a little too low on the LowE and A strings. I raised the bridge saddles on the Low E and A a bit and that is all it needed. Most of my other guitars needed nut work when I got them. Proper shaping of the nut slots is critical. If it's not right, the open strings won't ring properly. High E and B are the hardest ones to get right. -

Sounds like your guitar needs some nut work. -
TRS cable will work fine - same as a mono cable for any guitar. The Variax supports external power with a TRS cable. It sounds like there is a problem with the battery connection in your guitar. Send it back or take the back cover off and see if maybe the connection from the battery box came unplugged from the board.

It should not have come as a surprise that they had to pay the taxes based on their country. -

I've got to remember that one! -
Swapping the center is usually just a matter of cutting the cable and splicing it back together with the leads swapped. Double - make that Triple check the polarity before you plug it into your Pod.

Sales tax is ultimately the consumer's responsibility. Online retailers are getting better at collecting it but you can get nailed for not paying sales tax. It happens to businesses that buy their equipment on line all the time. They have to be careful to pay sales tax and keep good records. They don't usually go after consumers because it's just too hard to do it. -
HD500 constantly rebooting when Variax plugged in
Charlie_Watt replied to lindsayward's topic in POD HD
The weak link on the VDI cable is the connectors. The Ethernet connectors are not designed to be plugged and unplugged many times. The shell helps keep it from getting damaged by yanking it but but the connector is still not very robust. I leave my Variax plugged into my Pod all the time - on a stand. I think anyone that is gigging with it will probably eventually run into cable problems. -

Maybe you had a short in the power connection for some reason. That is the only thing I can think of that would cause something like this.
