Well, the Amplifi doesn't transmit audio as a Bluetooth device, it only receives it. You could hook up a bluetooth transmitter to its headphone out and pair that with a pair of bluetooth headphones, but the latency would be noticeable, probably to the point where it would be unworkable. I use Bluetooth earbuds with a transmitter for the TV in my workout area at home, and I can even notice the latency in that situation if I pay attention enough - it becomes obvious the audio track is lagging behind the video. It would probably be noticeable right away with guitar.

Well, I can't claim credit for the idea. Eric, aka Digital Igloo, mentioned it a few times over on TGP, and possibly here.

I made this little clip last night as a "proof of concept" more than anything. I'd wanted to try this for a while, and I don't know why I waited so long to do it. I assigned the pitch of the B-string on my JTV69 to be controlled by an expression pedal to emulate a B-Bender (min offset set 0, max set to +2 semitones). It works OK as long you make the transitions relatively fast. It isn't going to give a slow pitch bend. It actually doesn't really bend between the pitches - it just alternates between the two pitches. I should give a caveat that I'm not really a B-Bender type player, so I'm just messing around here. Could be a cool effect in the right situation, though. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/jtv-helix-b-bender-demo

The Amplifi's USB port doesn't provide power... It's a USB-B port, which is by definition an "upstream" connection, meaning it's not meant to be a connection used by hosting device.

I had to actually look it up to see if "faffing" was a real word, lol. I love British slang! It all sounds like someone just made it up on the spot. :D

I've definitely not noticed anything like that. There were no changes to the existing amp or effect models with this update (other than bug fixes). Of course, people aren't required to do the update, but if they're holding off from doing it because they're worried about the update process itself, I don't suspect that's going to change anytime soon.

Snapshot icon taking up too much text space in scribble strip
phil_m replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Yes, I was a beta tester, and, no, I never brought that up. First of all, like I said, I knew originally the plan was no nameable snapshots. I don't even know if I should have revealed that detail, so I don't want to say anything else regarding the process. I'm sure DI can chime in if he wants. The only I would say is that when it comes to stuff like this where it seems like there's a constraint that seems like it shouldn't be there, there is usually some reason behind it. I believe I know what's driving this decision, but it's not really my place to say what that is (because I'm not 100% sure)... Sorry, not trying to play dumb. I'm not overly attached to the camera icon, although, I do like having a strong visual cue as far as what mode I'm in. -
If you're in Stomp Mode and hit one of the bank switches, it will bring up the preset view, and as soon as you select a preset, it will go back to stomp mode. Of course, this only work if you have the Stomp Mode Switches setting under Global Settings > Footswitches set to 8 Switches.

Snapshot icon taking up too much text space in scribble strip

You should all count your blessings... Originally, there wasn't going to be naming of snapshots at all. I'm thankful they were able to make that happen. I can understand wanting to have a slightly longer label, but having been playing live with snapshots for several months, I have to say I do appreciate the strong visual cue letting you know you're in snapshot mode. I'm not sure if having two or three extra characters would make a huge difference. -
While I agree with Peter that the overall experience will not be as fun without the Helix Command, you can certainly change patches, select snapshots, turn effects on and off and control all sorts of parameters on the Helix with a third party MIDI controller.
-
If you're going to use the editor with the Helix after the 2.0 firmware update, than you must have the 2.0 version of the editor. If you're not going to use the editor, it doesn't matter. The editor isn't required for the update, only the newest version of Line 6 Updater is. I will say this, though. The only way to back up and restore patches is through the editor, and after you do the update, you MUST do the reset procedure on the Helix which will clear out all of your existing presets. So if you want to have access to your old presets, you have to use the editor before and after to do that.
-
Well, it wouldn't necessarily override it, but that PC message is sent out along with anything you have programmed as an instant command. I'm not sure in what sequence they're sent out, but it sounds like in your case, the PC message associated with the preset change is sent out last and is causing your amp to switch channels.
-
If you have the MIDI PC Send/Receive parameter set to on (which I believe the default is after you do a Global Reset), the Helix will send out the PC message associated with the preset you're going to whenever you bring it up.

I don't like having to press to footswitches at once, either. What I do is keep Preset Mode set to 8 Snapshots, and just use the Mode switch to alternate between Preset Mode (which is really more like Snapshot Mode now) and Stomp Mode. You can still use the 10 Stomps setting in this case if you want, and to switch presets, you just hit one of the bank footswitches while in Preset Mode.
-
Well, the issue is that you can't really enter snapshot mode from Stomp mode if you are using the 10 switches in Stomp mode. You can have Preset mode display something other than 8 presets, and you can use the Mode switch to alternate between Stomp and Preset modes, but Stomp mode is always dedicated to actual footswitch and controller assignments right now.
-
One possibility comes to mind. If you have the Preset Mode Switches set to "8 Snapshots", and you're looking at the snapshots while in Preset Mode, I don't believe the Auto Return setting will make any difference.

1.12 is not the latest version of the editor. You need to install the 2.0 version of the editor to use with the 2.0 firmware.

If you're talking about Netflix's streaming library, I definitely know who has a larger collection of crappy ones... Lol!

I think you just need to try to look at each unit as objectively as possible and see what features each has that are important to you. From my perspective, there are few features the Helix has that AX8 simply doesn't that seem to make the overall experience of using the Helix more pleasant to me. To me those are the scribble strips, the large color screen, and the added I/O options. I guess it depends on how much those things matter to you. Personally, I find the Helix just as easy, if not easier, to use than a standard pedalboard when I'm playing live. Because of the scribble strips, I'm not relying on memory or even looking at the LCD display to recall which things I have assigned to the footswitches. I honestly probably wouldn't use a multi-fx solution live if it didn't allow me to do this. Other people have different priorities, though. I mean if you need to adjust 86 parameters in the amp block (I'm not making that number up, btw), the AX8 will let you do that. The Helix obviously doesn't. The AX8 gives you the ability to deep dive into all sorts of things. If your the person who's into that, well, maybe the AX8 is your jam then.

You just run the output of the transmitter to your first pedal.

Hmm... Thinking about this some more, it might be that the Helix's auto-sensing/auto-calibration for these jacks might be make this not work. Perhaps it actually needs to see a resistive load for this work. Were using a stereo adapter plug? It might be worth just plugging a regular mono cable in to see if that makes a difference... I'm kind of suspecting now, though, that this simply might not work.
-
If you're experiencing that significant of a tone loss going into the amp's effects return, I wonder if it's not some sort of impedance mismatch. I use my Helix for my acoustic and mandolin, and I've used various outputs, and have never had an issue with things sounding flat. If anything, I have much more clarity in the high end now.
-
It's still there... You're looking at the wrong setting. You're actually looking at the "Preset Mode Switches" setting (under knob 2). The setting for how the footswitches are set up in Stomp Mode is under knob 3 - "Stomp Mode Switches".
-
There are a few workarounds, or perhaps, strategies would be a better term, that I can think of. 1. Don't change snapshots while the wah pedal is engaged. 2. If you use an external pedal connected to EXP2, this issue goes away. 3. If you don't want to use an external pedal, you could put a dummy plug in the EXP2 jack. This may or may not be acceptable, though, depending on how you use EXP2. If you are only using the on-board pedal to control wah and volume, you can still do that while still using only EXP1. Just assign both relative parameters to EXP1, and since both effect will toggled opposite each other, you can still use them both normally.
