Does not keeping "existing patches" erase user setlists?
phil_m replied to billlorentzen's topic in POD HD
Well, just to be clear, it's the "Global Settings Reset" you have to do. It's not the same thing as a factory reset. If you do the global settings reset after you do the update (which you should do), it won't erase your existing presets if you chose to leave them during the update. It will rename your setlists, though. -

Definitely not vapor ware... Just taking them awhile to get them built and shipped. Didn't you know that NAMM means "Not available... Maybe May..."? :)

You can save your setlists separately in Edit and then load them back to the User Setlist slots after doing the update. There's really no way of getting around it if you want to load the new setlist with the firmware update. EDIT: I shouldn't say it's the only way, really. If someone wanted to, they could save the Variax Setlist and post it up here for people. -
Line 6 Monkey will always tell what the most recent version is as long you have installed the latest version of it (and it tells you if there's a new version available when you try to launch it). But 2.62 is the most recent version, and that's the one you want to use. As far as whether you should, I wouldn't worry about too much. I actually see very few cases of people having issues with the updates for the POD. If you're interested in purchasing the model packs, you have to do the update. Even if you don't want those, you get the Global EQ for free.

500x dot eighth delay AND 1/4 note (undotted ) together
phil_m replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
No right or wrong way to do it. It just depends on how you want it to sound. Having them in series has always sounded better to me. -
The funny thing is that guitarists will spend $100 on a new pedal without even blinking... Heck, it's very easy to spend twice that on a single overdrive pedal. In my opinion, the Pete Anderson Deluxe may be worth the cost alone. That's a spicy meatball-a!

How does the Standard functions compare to the 59?
phil_m replied to kennethkcarter's topic in Variax Standard
The modeling is the same and both have all the same functionality. The one practical difference is that the Standard has a 5-way pickup selector switch similar to the 69, instead of the 3-way switch on the 59. It changes the way you actually access all the models from the guitar itself. -
The amp models ported over from the XT/X3 series are the same, but the cab models in the HD Pro X are the HD models even if they have the same name as the XT models. I would try using Cab DEP controls before messing with the EQ at all. Try turning down the Resonance parameter to zero to start with.

Line 6 is now shipping them to retailers, so I imagine the 4/24 date was just MF being conservative. I would think that retailers would start being able to fulfill orders this week.

I'd say the modeling does react well in general to overdrives and distortions. It's just that it's possible to clip in different places along the signal path in this sort of amp compared to a tube amp. It really shouldn't be an issue in most cases, but if you want to really boost the level with the pedal, it could be a problem.

I have an HP laptop with a touchscreen, and I just tried using HD500X Edit with it, and the touch capabilities work well. I don't see why it wouldn't work. My main worry would actually be using the USB connection in a live situation in your case. I'd be a little worried about the cord getting pulled and the jack being broken on the 500X.

I've plugged my pedalboard into the 150, and it worked well. I think the one thing is that with a solid state power amp, you don't get the same sort of reaction you do with a tube power amp when it comes to overdrives and distortions and "pushing" the amp hard. You can still use those pedals, but it's possible to push the amp into unnatural sounding clipping if you really hit it hard.

Analog drum machines are collector's items. Moby, one of the earlier electronica/EDM artists has a has huge collection of them, for example. http://therumpus.net/2011/04/swinging-modern-sounds-29-the-museum-of-broken-things/

Sure, you can do that. It won't hurt the unit at all, and it's actually a pretty common thing for people to do. You can also put the pedals in the 500X's effect loop if you want. That can be nice if you want to have some of the on-effects in front of your pedals.

It's been four days! Tough crowd here recently... :)

Is it 2010 again? It seems like we have had this discussion at least once a year even since the HD was first released. Bottom line is it's a feature, not an error. Yes, it means you can't do everything you want to do necessarily. But if Line 6 made it so the message never appeared, it would mean more limitations, not fewer.

Manufacturers have gotten away from providing large printed manuals because the information get outdated rather quickly. The functionality can change quite a lot through the lifespan of a product. For example, for the HD500, the amp and cab deep editing parameter were added after the initial release, so the advanced guide has to be updated to reflect that.

Did you read through the Advanced Guide at the above link? It's very substantial, if you ask me...

I assumed that was the department that Digital Igloo oversees...

Does Voicing Switch Remember Other Topology Settings?
phil_m replied to mtreehugger's topic in DT50 / DT25
Prior to the 2.0 update, the Topology switch was just a "dumb" switch. After the update, though, it behaves as you're describing. -
It is a model ported from the XT/X3 series. I believe it is the Variax Acoustic model. It's not an acoustic emulator.
