  1. I believe that both inputs are just active at all times. It's not like the HD500X where you can select different inputs for each patch. But if you want to have a guitar connected to the 1/4" in and Variax connected at the same time, it shouldn't be a problem.
  2. I use Fender amps a lot in real life - own four of 'em, actually. My DRRI is still my go-to amp for live playing. And I actually think it's pretty easy for them to sound bad with many distortion pedals. The line between it sounding crisp and tight versus fizzy and fuzzy can be pretty fine. I recently read an article by Nels Cline, and he said that when he's using a Fender amp his baseline starting point is putting the Treble at 2 and the Bass at 10. That may take the top end down too much, but I've tried that on that the HD models, and does seem to help. As far as the RAT, I think it's a very touchy pedal. Had one on my board for awhile and got rid of it. I feel like it has such a narrow range of useable tones. If you don't crank the filter control to 75% or higher (I believe the filter is such that the higher you have, the more it cuts), it's like a can of bees. One thing to try to with the HD models is using the DEP controls. You can turn the master volume back for one thing. Also, I'd recommend turning the cab resonance to zero. Beyond that, I think keeping the drive on the lower end helps. The drive control is really the volume knob on the Fender models, and most of the time you would never run the volume on a Deluxe above 3 or 4. On a Twin, you're lucky if you can get it above 2 before it gets intolerably loud.
  3. Don't do that... :)
  4. You aren't required to register the POD to download patches from CustomTone.com. You just have to have a Line 6 account. It won't hurt to register, but, yeah you do need the serial number.
  5. Could be a long shot, but did you do the global settings reset after installing the firmware? Were you using a patch you created, or was it one you happened to download? It could be that the bug from before has popped up again. I've informed Line 6 to let them know about this.
  6. Check this page out: http://blog.line6.com/2013/pod-hd-amplifier-extras%E2%80%94using-the-sag-bias-and-bias-excursion-settings/
  7. That's not really unusual. The app has to re-sync the presets from the TT. I don't know that it takes quite that long for me usually, but I've never timed it.
  8. Is this while using the VDI, or are you just using the battery? I can't say I've really noticed this before, but I rarely use sleep mode.
  9. Just a quick note, the people who have Line 6 Expert tags aren't Line 6 employees, and we don't officially speak for Line 6 or anything like that. We're just users who try to help when possible. So, really, the only way to get an official response from Line 6 is to use the support ticket system. Personally, I would have a hard time seeing it being the power supply, but if it is, that would actually probably be good news because it's a simple fix. And to answer your question, they've always used the same power supply for the HD500 and 500X. What VDI cable are you using? If you have the ability to try another one, that would be worth trying, imo.
  10. You might want to try disabling your anti-virus and/or firewall. Those have been known to cause issues for some people.
  11. When you can't update, what exactly do you mean? Are you getting some sort of error in the process?
  12. The same thing happened to me, and I did the same sort of thing you did here. That was over two years ago, I believe, and it's been fine. I don't know why they don't use a stronger adhesive in the first place, but luckily, this is one thing that's really easy to fix.
  13. The 500X was released something like three years after the 500 - it certainly wasn't just a few months. As far as selling the model packs, it isn't a new strategy for them at all. They've been doing with the XT and POD Farm lines for over ten years. I get that you're frustrated that you're having an issue. Anyone would be. But you're making some incorrect statements in trying to prove your point.
  14. I have an HD500 also, and what you're experience isn't the expected behavior. So if you power up your HD500 with the Variax not attached, it works OK? And does it work OK if you plug in the Variax after the HD500 is powered on? As far as difference between the HD500 and 500X, they are the same as far as JTV operation is concerned. Also, the 500X uses the exact same power supply as the 500.
  15. No, there's no way to do that in the M9.
  16. Line 6 actually does model specific amps when they create their models. They own the vast majority of them, I believe. They have them on display at their headquarters in Calabasas, CA. There are some models that are "Line 6 originals" and in those cases, no real amp exists.
  17. Hit FS3 while in looper mode to move the looper from pre to post. If the effects from the new patch are being applied to the recorded loop, you have it in the pre position. To do what you want to do, you need to have it post.
  18. Have never really had an issue getting the volume I need. I wouldn't say the POD is generally quiet. There are numerous places within the signal chain to adjust the volume to what you need. Even with the amp/line switch for the 1/4" outs set to amp, you should be able to get more than enough volume for a typical guitar amp input. The channel volume for the amp block is the first place to boost. After that, you have the mixer block. Also, there's nothing wrong, really, with setting the amp/line switch to line if you need more volume going to your amp. I'd start with the master volume lower, though, when you do that, and then increase it as needed.
  19. Did you do the global settings reset after doing the update? Doing that and re-calibrating the expression pedal are required after every update.
  20. I'd be surprised if it stays that way. I imagine they're still getting all they're ducks in a row with the Yamaha acquisition.
  21. Don't doubt your experience, but with my 69US, I actually don't notice a large difference in volume between the mags and the Spank model. Could just be difference in setup, I suppose.
  22. I think you should do an A/B test with the Spank model and your Strat. You might be surprised. The emulation was very close to mine. I think the thing is that Strats are probably the most popular electric guitar on the planet, and because of that, they are also the most modified. If I remember correctly, I believe Line 6 modeled a 50s Strat, so it's not really surprising that it's a lower output than many of us our used to. Guitars of that era generally didn't have hot pickups, as it really wasn't what players wanted back then.
  23. These are user forums... You're not a customer of any of ours. :) No one that's commented on this thread is Line 6 employee. I imagine it's only a matter of time before there are some official Line 6 videos up showing off the new models.
