WTF??? My Line 6 account doesn't show any registered products?? WTF?
Karl_Houseknecht replied to jimbohagey's topic in Helix
I don't see anyone melting down. I see two people reporting a possible problem. This is why I so rarely post to forums anymore. When I do, it's because I have a problem that needs a solution, not to hear someone diss me and/or the OP for sharing an experience in a calm fashion. The forum says I'm at my quota for negative votes for the day, so I guess you've been spared that. Having a system that keeps track of registered products is important for warranty service issues. I can understand why the OP would be upset. -

I think there's some kind of system disconnect going on. I opened a support ticket this weekend, selected the product in question from the list, and it said "No registered product" even though there was clearly a list of registered products to choose from. -
How to Respond When The Bass Player Doesn't Like Your Helix
Karl_Houseknecht replied to talonmm's topic in Helix
I guess he didn't see the iso cab underneath the stage with the real mic'd up speaker in it and not just the fake stage mic. :) Your bass player is being a dork. But if he really thinks this way and it's really important that you use an amp, use an amp. If he's still a dork, find another band. -

"The Golden Ear" - Hears nuances in amp tones that nobody else can hear. Will frequently deride the auditory ability of anyone that doesn't hear the same thing. "The Peter Player" - Similar to the business phenomenon known as "The Peter Principle", this "guitarist" has been promoted beyond his ability, by sheer size of his income, into owning multiple boutique amps, all of the top end modelers, and a dozen or so high dollar guitars...all despite a demonstrated lack of ability to play, yet with seemingly unlimited time to impart his unique viewpoint on guitar gear forums. This is differentiated of "Bedroom Guitar Syndrome" as the forum dweller doesn't actually play guitar in their bedroom but has a dedicated "studio" space in their dwelling, and also because Bedroom Guitarists might have actual chops. Moderate to severe Peter Players will also never have played in a band or with others, and may have YouTube channels dedicated to high end gear reviews. -

"The Tube Snob" - Maintains that tube amps are vastly superior to digital modelers and that any good audio engineer (such as himself, who has watched a few course advertisement videos on Full Sail's web site) can easily pick the modeler out of a comparison clip. Despite their qualifications, they can't pick the modeler out of the comparison clips. Complains that a modeler will never sound like an "amp in the room". Milder cases may admit that modelers are 98% of the way there but lack that 2% that make tube amps tubey. Doesn't own a modeler. Monitors tone from their amps from 4 feet above the speakers and complains of "fizz" in recordings of digital modelers. Once tried a Vox ToneLab because it was the only modeler with a tube in it. Didn't like it, but proclaims it as the "best" of the modeling bunch. Occasionally shows up in forums to remind modeling users how wrong they are. Frequently asked by sound guy to turn down. -
The problem with the Helix tuner is that it's precise. Probably more so than most people need or want. I can tune in the same time and with the same results as the tuner on my AX8, my Snark, my Korg, or TU-3. It's simply a matter of understanding that the fine tuning section at the top of the display is more sensitive. On my guitars that have double locking systems with fine tuners, the top section is smooth and not jumpy. On those with less precise tuning machines, it jumps around a little unless I'm more careful. What if the top section was further subdivided or had a "needle" indicator instead of large blocks? Would it appear less jumpy?

That should do it for you. The tube driver in real life doesn't work for me as a stand alone pedal on a mid scooped super clean amp. I find it works better as a boost for more midrangy amp already on the edge, like a wound up Marshall.
-
Turn down the treble on the Valve Driver. A lot. Also, experiment with boosting the plexi models with the valve driver, but keep the treble at higher values.
-
But why would you use a modeled cab when you have a real cab? Two cabs and two mics?
-
Wait...what? Why would you use IRs with a real amp in 4CM?
-
I still prefer quality third party IRs to anything I'm getting with the stock Helix cabs, and it's not for a lack of my trying. YMMV.

There are times when I'm standing around during a church service and someone is speaking, and it may be 4 minutes or longer. The unit has entered sleep mode and it doesn't wake up immediately. I can miss the first chord or few notes of what I'm playing. Happened twice to me on Sunday. Any way to lengthen the amount of time for Sleep Mode to kick in? Or disable it altogether?
-
Incredibly firm is an understatement. It takes my entire strength to pull off something like the Helix or AX8 when fastened by just two strips of Dual Lock. Basically, it's never coming off if you don't want it to.

Getting some super solid rock tones from the Helix...
Karl_Houseknecht replied to GuitarjonSDS's topic in Helix
I haven't posted here in years, I just lurk, but you've brought me out of hiding with this post and video. Those IRs are fantastic. I recently purchased them because they are VERY similar to one of the user favorite IRs in the Axe-Fx which I use on 99% of my Axe patches. For ~$12 it's hard to go wrong. The mix cabs are where it's at. -
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if you cut the ground portion (sleeve), what do the tip and ring short to in order to make the switching happen?
-
And you can still switch amp channels?

Preamp Or Amp Setting When Using Pod Hd And Dt25/50

Hold on here...I missed this the first time. What do you mean they break up at louder volume? -
Preamp Or Amp Setting When Using Pod Hd And Dt25/50
Karl_Houseknecht replied to benbutterworth's topic in DT50 / DT25
The only utility I would have for low volume mode is late night practicing. And even then...not sure how useful it really is. Use the preamps with the DT. You could certainly try the full models, nothing to lose, but I don't find them to sound or feel as good as the preamps when using them with the DT. Your mileage may vary. -
As in, feeling the sound "in your bones"....or something a little more...risque?
-
LOL! I am so stealing that.

Two tonal descriptors I've heard countless times but STILL don't know what they refer to: 1. Three dimensional 2. Organic To me, those are the most useless descriptions of tone I've heard. Fat, creamy, chunky...those convey some real information. But organic? Was my tone grown on a farm where they didn't use pesticides? Three dimensional? I don't even know how that applies to sound. :)

Played this patch with my Tele at church this morning, which I just yesterday put a DiMarzio Area Hot T in the bridge and went up a gauge on strings....man, it smoked. Literally. We had to cut our worship set short because smoke was pouring out of our heating ducts into the building. :) Turned out to be a fan motor that seized up and then burned up. But let me tell you, I was worried for a moment because I left everything on stage as we evacuated. HD500X, DT25, Tele...entire rig. I'm thinking to myself, man, I just got this thing sounding great and now it's going to get burned up or water dumped on it? Turned out everything was contained to the heater unit and no further damage. Thank God! It really sounded good.
