wrong visual display on Ipad mixer view
66d35 replied to Pultleuchte's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I would try reloading firmware on the mixer and see if that has any impact. -
http://line6.com/support/forum-62/announcement-70-ios-9-compatibility-statement/ Looks like it now does work. Hmm.... I'll test it on my backup iPad mini first, I think!

wrong visual display on Ipad mixer view

Certainly not on mine, using either an iPad 4 Retina or an iPad mini 2. I normally use an Apple Airport Extreme router, but I keep a Samsung stick as backup, and no display problems with that either - though the connecion itself is slower and less stable. -
Wireless Dongle not working
66d35 replied to GenesisBand's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Dongles are extremely 'hit or miss'. The list of compatible models is very small: Supported USB-Wifi Adapters: EnGenius EUB-9801 Samsung WIS12ABGNX - WIS9ABGN and a WIS10ABGN are NOT compatible The Egenius AC1200 is not on the supported list. I would strongly recommend getting the Apple USB-Ethernet adapter and an Airport Express. The performance is far better and it is a proven, reliable method. I have used the Samsung dongle listed above, but the connection is vastly better with a router. Not worth the hassle, in my opinion, of trying to do this "on the cheap". With a compatible dongle or router, all you do is plug it in and go to SYSTEM and turn on wi-fi. The iPad will then detect the Stagescape network. Log onto the network and launch the App. -
Why not surge protectors?

Every time I read anything like this any desire to work in the UK again instantly disappears. They are so over-the-top there with their 'Health & Safety' obsessions it is absolutely crazy. The last straw for me was when did a classical string quartet concert in an ancient church, and the local council insisted on two huge bouncers being on the door (charged to the organisers)!!!! This was presumably in case the classical music fans forgot who they were, and where they were, and decided to start smashing the place up to the pulsing beats of Bartok. As for electrics... I recall it cost extra to have some 'authorised' dude turn up to switch the lights on, but when I asked about who was 'authorised' to turn them off afterwards, he just said, no problem - you do it. -
M20d : limit of password lettering

Hmmm.. that's a problem! I would think maybe using a different router for the M20D network might be one way around it. -

The TF3 is a nice mixer. I've been using the A&H Qu 24 when I need a larger console. Also very nice. It is certainly interesting to observe how fast progress has been with these smaller "stage box" devices, however. -

I had that same message once. It was fine after a restart and has never happened again. -

I would just comment that unless you are trying to prevent some really, really serious and high level hackers (or some national security agency) from getting into your system a 16-character WPA/WPA2 password should be more than adequate - and if I was that worried, I would not be connected wirelessly to anything at all.... -

Certainly the example I tested and used did not have those characteristics at all. I would even describe them as "smooth" at the high end. I actually expected to hate them (based on other experiences with older Behringer stuff), but found myself liking them quite a lot. I'd be happy to use them. Other aspects, however, were more frustrating... The 'Scene' saving function drove me crazy. You cannot even tell what scene is currenty loaded...and managing things on several devices is diabolical, because they each have the settings saved locally and do not automatically synch with the mixer. It was nice to get back to the M20D and have everything crystal clear and hassle-fee again. -

As I have recently spent time mixing on a Soundcraft Ui12 and a Behringer XR12 it might be helpful if I reported on a few observations. GUI: The Ui12 GUI is excellent. Really smooth and very intuitive. Highly cross-platform compatible. Works nicely on Ipads, Android, PC, Mac. By contrast the Behringer XR software and apps feel unfinished. Very clunky. Saving scenes across devices is a nightmare (they are stored locally on each device separately!). The layout is pretty bad too. Some functions on Ipad do not work on Android, and vice versa. A bit of a mess.. The M20D frankly beats both of them, and then some. The Soundcraft does have some very nice qualities, however. Preamps: Unexpectedly, the preamps on the Behringer are really very good. These are the new 'Midas' based designs. Don't confuse with the poor preamps on previous Behringer mixers. No comparison. The Soundcraft preamps have big problems... serious noise issues that get worse as phantom power is applied. Practically unusable above +30dB gain. The M20D has nothing to worry about from either of them, but in this case, it is the Behringer that gets closest. FX: Both smaller mixers have a very decent range of quality FX. The Behringer adopts a kind of "internal plugin" approach. Both lack the huge range of complex FX found on the M20D and also have nothing like the enormous preset library. The Ui12 has a good, basic, 2-channel anti-feedback system on the mains and AUX outs. It works well, but is no competition for the much more sophisticated system in the M20D. The Behringer has no AFS at all. Recording: The Soundcraft has no recording ability. The Behringer records 2-track only. Larger versions of both are available that do offer recording up to multi-track on the Behringer's, but none of them offer the convenience of recording to SDHC card combined with USB out to computer. The M20D has advantages here too. Connectivity: Both have built in wi-fi routers. Both have an Ethernet port built in. That said, lots of connectivity issues relying only on the built-in wi-fi and for range and reliability, you still need to look at an external dual-band router. The M20D requires an ethernet adapter and has no built-in wi-fi, so lags a bit behind here, otherwise, I found all three mixers very reliable when set up correctly. Summary: Despite these other mixers being very recent, the M20D is still way ahead in many, many areas. I also spent a brief time with a QSC Touchmix.... and I honestly did not feel it was in any way better than the M20D, and quite a long way behind in some areas (no anti-feedback system, for example). The first two times I started the Touchmix 16 the screens locked, by the way! This seems to be a common issue over on their support board... Having tried the grass over on the other side of the fence, I still reman very happy with my M20D! It is a very good mixer indeed. -
Input Output volume drop Problems SOLVED !

Not very confidence-inspiring, is it? Fortunately, I have a 3 year warranty on mine..... and a spare digital mixer - just in case. -

Well, I just got to spend some time with one of these. They are actually excellent in many respects. The fact that they are totally crossplatform with ability to mix ands match between Android tabs and iPads, or even 'phones and computers is a huge plus. You can carry backup with you... ethernet hardwire available too. General features like EQ/Comp/Reverb/Gate is more than adequate for most purposes, but not quite as sophisticated as on the M20D. The wireless connection was instant and rock solid... one up on the M20D in that department. Mic pres sounded very good. Impressive Digitech modelling on the high impedance inputs.... overall, inputs not as flexible as the M20D, but again, perfectly functional and in most cases, would do the job nicely for a small band gig. The anti-feedback function is up to many standalone units, with 12 fixed and floating filters, but is not as sophisticated as that on the M20D, and is across the mains and AUX out rather than channel specific. Regardless, it works and works well in practice. Recording is 2-channel (stereo mix only), so a long way behind the M20D there. Also... PSU is not integrated, so you have a PSU box and low voltage connector to the mixer.... so, these are drawbacks. Despite these, the performance of the thing was highly impressive, especially considering the price. In fact, so impressive I ordered the smaller Ui12 as it is perfect for duo type gigs (8 mic pres, 2 with high impedance inputs and modelling), and is small enough to hold in one hand. A great backup mixer, too... just in case... -

It is nasty disease that came out of nowhere and spreads like wildfire. It is known as 'upgradeitis' It affects computer systems the worst, with 'upgraded' operating systems emerging every year just to break everything you had working perfectly, but has recently spread to mixing consoles. -
M20D Should I keep my order or cancel?
66d35 replied to hippiecow's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
It will record separate tracks to an inserted memory card. In that respect, as a 'capture' device for live shows it works well. As an audio interface, however, that is not its intended purpose and it really is not well suited to that - it has very high latency, for one thing. You do specifically mention 'I/O' for your DAW, so check out the limitations here carefully. In short, as a self-contained live show multi-track recorder with the files on the card for later import to to your DAW it is fine. It is not a substitute for a dedicated audio intereface, however. Look elsewhere if this is a requirement.- 33 replies

You could try reloading the firmware. If that does not fix it, contact Thomann. They are very good, and very helpful with returns. -

Resale values on PA stuff have never been good - unless it is analog and you hold onto it for 30-40 years and can label it as "vintage". Your recoup the upfront cost by using it, or, you write if off againat taxes. -

1. Buy something for what it does. Not what it might do, or you hope it might do later. 2. My 1939 Martin D-18 guitar has not had an 'upgrade' or 'update' yet. Not one! Imagine that. In over 70 years... 3. If there are specific problems that prevent a product working properly, then yes, those should be fixed - but added 'features' are a bonus. If you get more than you started with, then that is an 'extra' - but it is not a right and PA systems are not smartphones, tablets or computers. The expectations should not be the same. My excellent analog desks also never had (and never will) get an 'update' either. This does not stop them delivering very nice sounds to an audience. 4. If you have somthing and it works, and does the job you bought it for, great. If not - get something else. Problem solved. PA systems are not an "investment". If you want one of these, invest in pieces of paper. You can good returns - but they are lousy at amplifying bands on stage. -
Control M20D with Android tablet?
66d35 replied to tochiro's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
The Ui series are a 'budget' option, basically. Much cheaper than the M20D and quite a lot less capable. The cheapest model starts at $399... just shows how the price of digital mixers is falling, and falling fast. I do think a 'universal' app-free control interface is a big plus, though. -
Control M20D with Android tablet?
66d35 replied to tochiro's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I also use two tablets, a recent iPad + a 10" Samsung Galaxy Tab, and they both have strengths and weakenesses. I've actually found the Galaxy has better wi-fi reception than than the iPad. It will lock onto networks that the iPad struggles with. I can get a solid connection on that in one room in the house where the iPad can't even find a signal... Interestingly, the latest Soundcraft Ui series digital mixers are totally cross-platform using a web-based interface. Work on PC, Mac, Android and IOS. No apps required. -
Extending the L6 link range

I initially also had some reliability problems with the wi-fi. First efforts using the Samsung USB adapter were totally hit and miss... difficulty connecting.... dropouts... the Airport Express was better, but still not 100% by any means. I did a lot of testing and experimenting, and my finding were that getting the wi-fi adapter AWAY FROM the mixer made a massive difference. I actually use the Samsung, mostly, via a 2m USB extender cable that has a little built-in base. I position this as high as I can well away from large metal objects. Since doing so, I have had total reliability. Not one failed connection... not one drop out in dozens of shows. Rock solid all night, every time. Plug the same adapter into the mixer and it is back to square one... I have been using this for some time now, and seem to have very good range as well. Likewise with the Airport... at least 2-3m from the mixer as high as you can get it. Might be worth a try. -
Matched Pair Stereo Mics with M20d Mixer?

Yes. That video sets it out well. Start with the grand piano stereo preset and then customise it to taste. There is even a nice banjo icon you can use (which going by your user name might be relevant) ;)- 4 replies

Extending the L6 link range
66d35 replied to nickinfrance's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Can I ask why you find that to be the case? My experience is that in many ways, it is better. The screen is larger, and virtually every adjustment that can be made on the M20D is also available on the iPad screen. The only real difference is the physical knobs, and generally, 'fader view' on the iPad is nicer than those anyway, I have had no problem with 'deep' tweaks and settings via iPad, and it has been 100% reliable. It is just a different way of working, but given how you gain by not having to drag large multicores around and save on all the setup/breakdown time, it is worth getting used to it.
