Hi, Just a thought - but is your Helix going "silent" issue anything to do with the expression pedal bug which people are complaining about on this forum. It seems there is a problem where the block for the EXP 1 volume pedal will simply drop to a 1% output for no apparent reason. See this (and others): http://line6.com/support/topic/22076-exp-1-position-randomly-jumps-to-1/?hl=volume+drops&do=findComment&comment=176377 http://line6.com/support/topic/24342-arg-volume-pedal-bug-not-fixed-in-210/ http://line6.com/support/topic/24357-its-back-the-exp1exp2-problem-in-210/ There is workaround for this - maybe worth a try? http://line6.com/support/topic/24048-fw-210-expression-pedal-question/ Rumour has it that Line 6 are working on a software patch to fix this.

Hi mailman2020, Glad to hear that you've found a way of making it all work for you, well - at least for now. I guess from your comment, "...since the small monitor's did"t give me what i had hoped (but really doubted...)" it seems that you had already realised that the 5" Yamaha monitor would not be capable of moving as much air as the big P.A. cones will. It's horses for courses - as noted by these wise words from "cruisinon2" Have fun!

Polar bears? And what sort of guitar player wants to chance frost bite? Kinell!

What effect is this? (SLASH – beautiful dangerous)

U.K. reports same issue with YouChoob link! "The uploader has not made this video available in your country". Now there's a novelty - we usually get crap from all over the globe! Maybe we will never know what it is you seek, Grasshopper? -
Although I agree that the use of certain characters can screw up computer systems, particularly as you noted the forward slash (virgule, solidus), which to a UNIX computer represents the root directory. Since the latest update to v2.10 on Nov 22, I think that the "forward slash" naming issue should not be a problem any longer - or maybe it is?. This is mentioned in the release notes (my emphasis, red italics): Improvements/Changes - Added a Headroom parameter to Delay > Vintage Digital - Snapshots now recall the currently active expression controller (EXP 1 or EXP 2) for the built-in treadle - Split > Y can now be bypassed; when bypassed, the block sends both left and right signals to both paths equally (like the old Split Y block) - Looper Mode switch LEDs now display a dim/lit state to better reflect their current states - Non-selected Pedal Edit Mode parameter switch LEDs now display a dim state - Added forward slash [/] to list of characters for naming presets, setlists, snapshots, and Stomp mode custom labels - Bypass Assign > Knob 1 (Footswitch) has been relabeled “Switch†to better reflect all values - Tap Tempo no longer affects a preset’s dirty state (“E†icon) - Minor updates to the Factory Preset bundle - If a user fails to read and follow the update instructions, Helix will cause their car radio to play only polka death metal every Thursday from 1-3pm PST

Hey Doc, Maybe you need to get a Korg A3 (preset 76) - or why not check out this thread: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/u2-song-mysterious-ways-what-effects-and-what-settings.1239688/ It may help you find the "fundamentals" needed to fine tune. Hope this helps!

Sure nuff, yes there is an alternative option - grab yourself to one of these little boxes - cheap and effective. Works a treat! https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Ultra-Compact-4-Channel-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B000KIPT30/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480941893&sr=8-1&keywords=behringer+headphone+amp

Hi "Ireland175", In your original comment, there are a few things that aren't quite clear to me. 1: You "fine tuned the strings" - at this point, was the Variax plugged in and sounding like a regular guitar? 2: You "installed Workbench" - you don't state which version, please check it is the correct version for your model. 3: You say "It downloaded to the Variax pretty quickly and then I started testing it out" - now I'm confused as to what "it" was that downloaded to the Varax?. Your Variax comes pre-loaded with standard factory models, Workbench allows you to modify them or create "custom" models that can then be loaded into your Variax. Maybe you have inadvertently downloaded some corrupt or incompatible patches that are causing a problem. 4: May I suggest that, if you haven't done so already, you perform a factory reset on you Variax and see if it comes back as a "box fresh" version (see owners manual, Pilot Guide - page 14). If that fails and you cannot restore your Variax to Factory, than I suggest that you to raise a ticket with customer support. Hope this helps. LATE EDIT: I just remembered that the Factory Reset changed - see this: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/james-tyler-variax-general-faq-r31 Factory Reset and Updating the Flash Memory Q: Why doesn't the Factory Reset procedure described in the manual work? A: The reset procedure described in the JTV manual was removed from the JTV guitars to make room in the memory for the Variax HD Acoustic models that were added in flash memory update v1.80. All JTV guitars with flash memory v1.80 and newer no longer have this factory reset procedure available. To perform a factory reset, re-install, rollback, or update the flash memory on the James Tyler Variax guitars, please use the following link: Variax Reflash and Software update F.A.Q. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/variax-reflash-and-software-update-instructions-r103

Same here "steevo1977", no change when I tested this, although as "silverhead" notes it's there if you switch the mode of the Output Block. You will get a significant shift in volume if you should be crazy enough to swap between Line and Mic level when sending to your monitor system over XLR or 1/4" Jacks. Cannot hear any changes in the cans.

@ zooey! Glad you can confirm that what you got was the exact same result I got yesterday: see my post #11 above; quote -"FYI: both files from your Dropbox gave same results - i.e.: Import (plus drag and drop) into empty slot in Helix Editor Setlist - result: file name "Starz" appears in slot, but all patch blocks are blank, nada, zip, zilch - nuthin. Other than the previously reported stuff that I could scrape out of the file - Sorry, but"that's all she wrote!"

Abandon hope all ye who enter here! - or summink like that!

Apologies "zooey", I didn't see a link to your "control sample file" in the thread, so I'm only checking the latest update! D'oh! Looking at an older sample of mine they were way different not in e.g.: file size, but structure - totally askew! No similarity. True - it acts like a cocoon for some files types over the web- a safety net, if you will (or even if you won't ;)). No hassle, "willjrock", we're all just on a problem solving exercise. If we can fix it then everyone benefits, right? FYI: both files from your Dropbox gave same results - i.e.: Import (plus drag and drop) into empty slot in Helix Editor Setlist - result: file name "Starz" appears in slot, but all patch blocks are blank, nada, zip, zilch - nuthin. Other than the previously reported stuff that I could scrape out of the file - Sorry, but"that's all she wrote"!

It don't frighten me! I'm well pleased with my new toys - Thanks D_I and the Line 6 Team
-
Sorry dude, your original file must have got corrupted somehow. I can get no further with it than before, just the name of the patch shows up in the setlist - nothing in any of the blocks. It's gotta be screwed up, but it was worth trying. Maybe someone else with a PC would like to try - you never know it may work.
-
willjrock, I have just click on your DropBox link and I'm not getting the "Starz.hlx" file, but it's a bunch of code that seems to have been converted to raw text and what downloads is a file tagged "Starz.hlx.txt". This usually happens to files that are transferred across the net if they aren't compressed, i.e.: zip, RAR encoded. Anyhow, as it stands I cannot get it to load into then Helix editor software, even after hacking the file extension around. Checking what I can from the text file I can see that you had a Line 6 Electric amp, 10 band graphic EQ and an Impulse Response 2048 file in the patch, but not much else. Repost the patch in a compressed form so it will copy across to my Mac and I will try again. :)

Another 2 to add to the list has got to be: Scott from the Helix Channel on YouTube (posting here as "sminchk67") https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpJrfCxQmio6zyjut4n0qRw and Glen DeLaune (posting here as "gangsterusa") https://www.glenndelaune.com/patch%20downloads.htm Take your pick!

Couldn't agree more! Especially for the Variax integration and the MIDI clock should have been in there from the start. Except, just one thing - I don't do dancing! Although, if those nice people at Line 6 included a tuner in the editor, then "spikey" may do the dance instead. Yee har!

It's a high gain font and much louder than all the others! Stick a tube screamer in front and see how it fattens up!

Must be a bug - it's only Tuesday! -
I came across this info on the Celestion website about the 12" Celestion G12H 30W Anniversary speakers that you are using. Mmm... very curious, the quoted frequency range is 75-5000Hz and a resonance freq at 85Hz. I don't understand where the peak of 11-12K is coming from - most odd!
-
As alway - great job Scott. Glad your arm is fixed and that your other heath issues are improved, if only a little. Keep on rocking them good times!

This update just bricked my Samsung Galaxy! I feel a damages claim coming!

CBTL, If you really need the full breakdown of David Gilmour's rig used on that tour (On an Island 2006, Royal Albert Hall and Gdansk) you can find all the info here: http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=218 Check it - hope it helps! :) Late EDIT: this may help - Fender Custom Shop Telecaster - 2006 1950s reissue/replica blonde ash body with a white pickguard and maple neck.

Yep, brue58ski, that's true - it's a very old trick that I was already familiar with - it was just the comment that I read somewhere about early EVH recordings and as I noted, I didn't bother to check. Plus, you are correct when you say, "Ya also generally don't want to pan them hard.left and right", too wide doesn't work properly, it simply sounds "wrong" to my ears.
