  1. Maybe this Bozo should go and camp out in Andy Summer's garden until he gets a definitive answer to his questions regarding this divisive issue - or until he gets his butt kicked? Don't think it would take that long!
  2. Ha ha ha - everyone knows ya can't polish a turd - but, ya can roll it in glitter!
  3. Excellent! Only don't feed the damn thing! Now, where did I leave my big can of "Bullsh!t Repellent"? That should see the blighter off!
  4. I get the feeling that this is turning into:- "the Return of the Son of Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar"
  5. This stuff baffles me! "I bet the Helix cannot replicate this tone" Errr... well I bet it can, but I ain't falling for your challenge - to busy with new stuff! Why do you want, or need, to create a sound exactly like that? As stated by others on here, it's relatively straight forward to come up with something pretty close, although - it's all been done before - over and over and over! It hasn't sparked anything new! But it's not as simple as just getting "that sound" from the modeller of your choice (I notice you have also been trolling the Fractal forums with this challenge). If you want to replicate the "Police" sound a Telecaster would certainly help, alongside a ton of talent. It is also down to the player, Dave Gilmour and EVH sound like they do because that's who they are - they're unique. They don't painstakingly and carefully copy someone else's stuff. Besides, can you handle the stacked 5ths, added 9ths and suspensions that are Andy Summers speciality? Even Mr. Summers (who says that track is one of his faves) has evolved way beyond a tone he came up with almost 40 years back. Widen your horizons, check out some of his other stuff and even venture into things he did with Robert Fripp. Here's some stuff from an interview with Andy from Jan 2014: http://www.guitarplayer.com/artist-lessons/1026/play-like-andy-summers-during-the-police-years/12450 Now you can go away and learn! Oh! I almost forgot about this one - it's not "Massage in a Brothel" but it's another Andy Summers Police tone from Helix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyYXgJttHj0 Do you want fries with that hat?
  6. Aww c'mon Spikey, that's the same as all those people who said that Helix (Fractal, Kemper etc.) don't sound like "real" tube amps. We really are in the realms of "hairsplitting" now. Plus it has a tuner. Ya know ya love it! :p
  7. Hi tboston777, As usual "phil_m" is correct - what you have on USB 7 is instrument level signal. Trim is only available on USB channels 1 & 2, but they are not used for re-amping purposes. I'm not entirely sure that I understand what you are wanting to achieve with the dry sound, but you could always normalise the signal when you print it to disk. Lots of other options for routing to different busses in your DAW with some sort of boost on there. I don't know why as the re-amping process will give you all the gain you require. Dry is dry, wet is well, considerably louder! Edit: trim is only on the output from USB 1&2
  8. Yep, that's perfectly true and in fact that's the way I have worked for years, not just with Helix. The thing is, as phil_m has noted in his post, with "native" you don't require the physical Helix to be hooked up to use it. As for AD/DA converters, we have come a long way since the Commodore 64 and the SID chip but, we shall see how it goes. ;)
  9. Hi talonmm, As far as the hardware and native software versions go, it's two way traffic, everything is the same in both. All the new amps and fx will be matched and whatever gets updated in one will be done to the other. One is software that lives in a box we call Helix and the other is software that uses your computer as a brain. The really good bit as far as your question goes is - yes you can record a perfectly dry guitar signal into you DAW of choice and then re-route that signal through the plug in to try out whatever amps and effects you want. The new audio can then be recorded to another channel. Not happy with the result - too much overdrive, distortion or reverb? Simply adjust the settings and run it again - as many times as you like till you are happy. The original is unaffected. Cool.
  10. Well, it's out of the Helix box now!Re: available for download - quote from Digloo, Helix FW 2.20 Preview (The "Get Low" Update) AVAILABLE IN FEBRUARY—DON'T GO LOOKING FOR IT!
  11. Groundhog Day - noooooooooo! That's the looper!Damn, Line 6 guys you have surpassed expectations - Auto Swell, MIDI clock & Variax Workbench integration. Yippee ki-yay!
  12. Damn, now I'm confused! My IMac 5k has 32 gigabytes of RAM installed. Does this mean I can create a behemoth rig on the computer that's more than Helix can handle in hardware form. There must be a maximum limitation. & does it have built in tuner for "spikey" (mine is a software Peterson in the iPad and iPhone). $99 - bring it on.
  13. We need "spikey" to check if there is an onboard tuner included, or it's a non starter!
  14. DaveDaveDave, Surprise! Here's another three interesting words taken out of context from DI's post: "There won't be" That says it all.
  15. Oops! Strike that. Once more you are correct, Phil - my mistake to have mentioned Avid, they are not involved. Doh! Another momentary lapse of reason!
  16. No problem dude. I can understand the brand loyalty thing - except I reckon some folks at Line 6 could be a little more than a tad miffed by the plagiarism of the Headrush styling. That looks like a lot more than just borrowing from the Helix design and I would have expected more from Akai, Avid and the parent company.
  17. Why? Have you got one on pre-order? It's my cheap attempt at being humorous and looks like I missed the mark, once again! Jeeziz!
  18. And just when when will this thing be available? Oh - First of April. Yeah, right!
  19. Please read this - it should put this thread back to sleep! Tune in to the Schumann Resonance of the planet! https://ask.audio/articles/how-sound-affects-youtuning-forks-as-sound-healing-tool Om Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  20. JTSC777, I think you need to go way back - more than just a couple of years - for the beginnings of the union of electric guitar and EDM. I will simply point you in the direction of the amazing "System 7", alias 777, Mirror System (featuring Steve Hillage) and this quote from: https://www.discogs.com/artist/6959-System-7 UK-based techno and ambient outfit System 7 was formed by Hillage and Giraudy in 1990. Rather than simply being a duo, System 7 has always been more of an extended collaboratory project with contributions from a wide range of other artists including such luminaries as Derrick May, Alex Paterson (of The Orb), Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier. Highly proficient programmers and mixers, System 7 are also one of the few ambient/techno acts to employ the guitar. Check 'em out. Then have a look at Steve's Wikipedia entry for some of the other stuff he has done. A quite interesting career! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Hillage EDIT: Hillage won the "Visionary" award at the 2013 Progressive Music Awards. Here's System 7 Live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YyFY07qvDk
  21. Damn! Will someone at Line 6 put a tuner in the Editor for "spikey".
  22. "I want cool stuff like amps and effects in my Helix". That gets my vote!
  23. Yeah right, and while you're at it, give Helix the ability to consume broken glass and crap out diamonds! That would be a cool feature!
