Believe me, I really do understand your enthusiasm for the HX, but I’m still no wiser as to exactly what sort of pedal you’re using. As can be seen in the video above, the expression pedal doesn’t really require calibration. Patch the jack plug into the socket and sweep heel to toe and vice versa. If your pedal is not registering 100% of travel, have you considered the possibility that the issue may be with the pedal rather than the HX box. Again, in the the earlier post, I noted that not all expression pedals are compatible. Now if the situation is that you are hooking up a Mission pedal, specifically designed to work with Line 6 products, and not achieving the desired result, then it may be time to raise a ticket with tech support. Although I would suggest, that if possible, you try a different and compatible pedal first. Hope this makes sense.
-
Well, hello again Jason, It would be a help to know what expression pedal you're trying to calibrate? You say that you have "changed the knob on the side of the pedal to no avail". Sadly we don't know what that knob is or what it's purpose is, your comment is a little vague. NOTE: Not all brands of expression pedals are compatible with your HX FX, you must use one that is wired Tip/Sleeve NOT Tip/Ring/Sleeve. Many users are having difficulties with amp/channel switching for similar reasons. Well, waddayano? - Jason, IIRC you were having trouble yesterday, with that very thing! You don't appear to be having much success with this. Line 6 say that they tested lots of stuff for compatibility, but obviously cannot test everything on the market. This is a basic setup for an expression pedal. Hope this makes sense.

Ha ha ha! Classic stuff. Oh, yeah - even earlier - Shel Silverstein and his material done by Dr Hook and The Medicine Show. Not sure they could get away with that stuff now., e.g. “Don’t give a dose to the one you love most” - a love song with a message. And how about his friend David Allan Coe? Nuff said!

Yeah, right!

Oh dear, Seems I have touched a nerve and someone is getting a little bit upset. Dude, you asked if this can be done, and the response from “phil_m” in post #4, was clearly stated “You can't change the relative position of parameters” I’m not projecting anything, you have pointed out what you seem to regard as shortcomings in the design of the unit, and I disagreed with that point. Just because you are tired and emotional, you don’t need to direct that at me. I am somewhere at this point, and have been there for many, many years. Thank you for your interest and please leave your attitude at the door. Did you have a sense of humour bypass operation?

Sorry fella, I’m a studio rat. I have plenty of time to switch parameters. Thing is, this looks like it may be a major design flaw that the Line 6 design team never considered and now you will be able to show them the error of their ways. It has never come up since the release of the Helix range, but now it’s here I will not be able to sleep until this blatant oversight has been corrected. Lets hope they will be all over it lie a cheap suit, after all you paid a lot for this gizmo and it’s just not good enough. You did check it out first, didn’t you? Jeeziz! Really wish I had something to worry about. Ideascale please.
-
If it’s such a pain to switch pages to make a minor edit scoot over to “Ideascale”, run it up the flagpole and see who salutes. Good luck with that one.
-
Eh? Do you have a compressor that has the mix option on a second page? Do tell. I just finished a long drinking session and I don’t want to go into my studio after all this.... I don’t see why a... but, it’s not... aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!
-
Is is there some particular parameter, on anything other than what’s on the first page, that you feel is used more often and therefore needs to be moved? If there is you can always put your suggestion on “Ideascale” and see if it gets voted up. Personally I’ve been using Helix since late 2015 and never felt that the layout of the parameter control needs to be changed. Frankly, the Line6 development team must have had their reasons for the position of each element. I reckon what you’re suggesting is just plain weird! What the hell are you using more often that can’t be coped with by pushing a button to page back and forth? A lot of stuff only has one page and if there is a second , maybe that simply says “Trails”. Took a while for that to be added.

Totally agree with the comments above from “bsd512”, this is exactly the way I use Helix for re-amping in Logic Pro. Although, I did once come across a guy who had problems using the re-amp setup. When I asked if he had USB 7 set to guitar - he said yes. Then he explained what he was doing, and it turned out that the reason he couldn’t record any signal was because he was using a Variax! A guitar is a guitar, right? Not when it’s a Variax! Please tell us that you’re not using a Variax. If you are, set the USB channel 7 to Variax.

How to switch cannels with HX effects on Peavey 6505+/6534+

How to switch cannels with HX effects on Peavey 6505+/6534+
datacommando replied to Shrednoise321's topic in Helix
Well, that all depends. HXFX and the RJM Mini Amp Gizmo can both deal with the MIDI side of things, but you said in the original post that you have a Peavey cable on the way. If you invest in a Gizmo you will need an AC adapter and a special cable, as noted on RJM website: "Please note! An amp interface cable is required for the Mini Amp Gizmo to connect to your amp, and these cables are sold separately. We offer many cables for most of the popular amps on the market." So, it may well be an expensive option simply for channel switching. Only you can decide if that's a good idea? -
True, so very true. The trouble is that this keeps coming up because first DI make public comments and now Frank R. What are people to make of it? Whatever they want I suppose. These things are meant to keep folk dangling on a string. It's harmless fun, but it's a distraction too. :-)

How to switch cannels with HX effects on Peavey 6505+/6534+
datacommando replied to Shrednoise321's topic in Helix
Hi Shrednoise321, This issue keeps cropping up and the Line 6 stance is, HX Effects switching has been tested with many popular brands of amps and heads, but cannot guarantee it will work with all. The thing with your Peavey 6534+ is that it has it own dedicated foot switch and cable, as noted in the Owner's Manual: Special 3-button unit with LED indicators (supplied) Channel select and reverb It doesn't have MIDI either so you cannot use that option for switching via the HXFX. See similar discussion about Mesa Boogie here: https://line6.com/support/topic/34463-amp-switching-doesnt-work-on-mesa-boogie-triple-rec-and-engl-powerball/?tab=comments#comment-265203 Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi rudomat, Apologies for that bad link, it’s a pain in the ***, getting an image to load on here. I’ve edited the previous post. Even easier, I found my original post about this on here:

I posted this in another thread, but it seems I should put it here also. What you have there is old news - Digital Igloo (Eric) posted this way back on 14th Feb. Hope this clears it up - yeah, right!

Hi, once again, I'm more intrigued than exasperated with this dilemma. So I decided to go the extra mile, just for the hell of it. I'm now in the studio with my Helix beside me. As previously noted the effects in both HX and Helix are the same and have the same functions - it's just that Helix has the amps and cabs. Here's what I found. First I selected an empty preset slot and created Pitch Whammy in the signal path. As you could see from the picture in the earlier post my options are: Position, Heel Pitch, Toe Pitch, Mix and Level. I would imagine that the parameters are identical on the HX. One thing to note is that with the Helix, Whammy FX are automatically assigned to the built in expression pedal, and it works flawlessly, but for the purpose of this test I used one of my external M-Audio pedals with the EXT2 input. Anyhow as noted in your original comment I set Heel Pitch to 0 and Toe Pitch to -4 then moved the expression pedal and at position [0%] the guitar pitch is standard and when moved forward to [100%] the pitch drops by 4 semitones. I then changed the shift to -2 and again the pitch drops, but this time a whole tone. This is all that is needed to change the range of the pitch shifter, simply set the amount of pitch shift required in the Heel and Toe ranges. If I check the controller assign set up for the Pitch Whammy the Parameter is set as "Position" and the Controller is "EXP Pedal 2" (which is my external, yours would be Pedal 1). The Min Value is set at 0% and Max Value 100% (this is the sweep range from 0 to -4 or whatever you have). That's it - nothing to learn - it just works. If you are not able to achieve this then I would suspect that firstly something is bypassing the Whammy effect, or there may be something amiss with your Roland EV5. If none of these I would raise a ticket with Line6 support. I hope this makes some sense and aids you in your quest for Whammy heaven. Best regards

If you have tried all the reset options listed here: https://helixhelp.com/reset-options/ and not had any success, even after trying to re-flash the Helix, I guess you will need to raise a ticket. Sorry I can’t be more help, but on a positive note, I don’t recall a Helix being totally bricked - more likely a glitch.

Hi, Here ya go - a full list of reset options. https://helixhelp.com/manuals/helix/resetOptions.html#helix-floor-lt Footswitches 8&9 or 9&10 are most likely what you are looking for. Good luck and don’t worry.

Hi, O.K. I apologise for the rant, as I don’t own a HX Effects box, but the engine is the same as the floor Helix minus the amps and cabs. You have managed to assign the parameters to the expression pedal. I guess what is happening is that you have the unit in “Learn” mode and when you sweep the pedal from heel to toe what’s happening is the thing is registering the 2 octave travel from -24 to +24 as 0 to 100%. This is obviously not what you want. What you want is not to be having the box learn the position of the EXP1 but to have it show the pitch shift, i.e. -2. You may have seen this video which shows applying parameters to pedals - if not it may help. You really don’t need to have your HXFX learn - just point it in the right direction. Hope this helps.

Hi, Well, yeah, that’s one way. Here’s a few more fun distractions for ya, this is compiled by “veritechc” over on TGP. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/helpful-line-6-links-for-getting-started-with-the-helix.1729160/ It’s from a couple of years back, but check ‘em out, there may be something else you missed out on. Remember! Your wife can only get so mad, a Helix is for life!

Hi, again, First off you tell us “The min and max values are percentages, not steps. There is no "-4" value.” Well, it seems that yes there is, because the issue now is that the pitch moves from -24 to +24. How did that happen? If you bother to check page 33 of the Helix FX Owner’s Manual it explains what you need to do, because, I’m sorry, I give up! One day people will evolve to the point where they consult the literature provided with the unit before saying it doesn’t work. Sorry for the outburst because I usually like to help Helix users, if and when I can, but.... If ignorance is bliss there are a whole bunch of people headed for nirvana! Enough! Let’s go back to RTFM before anything else.
