Hi Don, Did you follow exactly the instructions above, in the post from “phil_m”. You MUST download and install version 2.6 HX Edit FIRST as this also installs the correct driver and the LATEST LINE6 UPDATER software. If you are tying to upgrade the firmware using an older version of the Line6 Updater, you will more than likely encounter errors. The old version will see the Helix is connected, but it is not capable of correctly updating the Firmware. If you have followed the correct procedures, and you are still having issues, it is a great help to know what computer and system you are currently using, eg. Windows Mac OSX. Then it maybe easier to solve the problem. Hope this helps.

As I understand it, I think that's what is supposed to happen. Things change when you switch from the Variax Settings Per Preset to Global it switches the Variax Model in response: e.g. Spank 1 as Global but all others to suit on Per Preset. Hope that makes sense?

Hi davidb7170 I just checked on my Helix and the Don't Force option is still there on page 2 for Variax Global Volume, Tone and Tuning. It's working on both the Input Variax and Input Multi (Guitar, Aux, Variax). Don't understand why its happening to you. Maybe a bug, or temporary glitch, try a reboot on the Helix. Seems a little odd, anyone else out there come across this issue?

2.6 update. Why are their 3 different sized downloads?
datacommando replied to jimbojamz's topic in Helix
Not any more, at least no for OSX. Although earlier I thought there were 3 versions - Helix Floor, Rack and LT. I download the floor version to my HD to do a local install as I didn't want a failure through a server crash or dropped carrier. I guess some one behind the scenes is tidying up after all the traffic they have had recently. -
This idea has got to be one for the "cork sniffers" out there! If Line 6 had installed these supposedly superior op-amps, caps and filters, would we all have gleefully spent an extra $500 on a Helix? Would we have noticed a difference? Would we be happier? Nah, I don't think so, as that would be getting close to Fractal pricing territory and I can't see an advantage there. I guess most of us are happy with what the Line 6 team put together at a price we can live with. Now we just need to wait to see if Spikey will ask if these Black Lion guys can do a third party upgrade on the Helix tuner.

spikey, Frank and Eric knew about this stuff and posted on the Helix Facebook groups that it was being worked on. Shame nobody put a “system under reconstruction”, or whatever, banner on the front end to let users know what was happening. Maybe someone should have informed the IT department that no one could access the forums. Note: nice rework of the site, but where the hell have the emoticons gone :-( WTF “The value entered includes a character that is not allowed such as an Emoji”

Snapshot Compatibility with Helix Native for .hlx Files?
datacommando replied to soundog's topic in Helix
That’s just weird 😜 It’s really good that you had two versions of the Mac OS to reveal where the issue occurred. I can see that your investigation into it could be helpful for other Mac Pilots. Nice work, soundog, 😎 -
Snapshot Compatibility with Helix Native for .hlx Files?
datacommando replied to soundog's topic in Helix
Not played with this option yet, but here is what it says in the release notes for Native: “NEW FEATURES Snapshots - Helix Native now supports up to eight Snapshots per preset.†Maybe you have discovered a bug? -
Yep! That’s definitely a floor model (big clue - you don’t get footswitches on the face of a rack unit)If you have attempted to flash the Helix with the wrong Firmware update, you could try to fix it by downloading the correct version of the Firmware and Editor and have them ready to use. Reboot your Helix Floor model while holding down Footswitches 6 and 12. If this debugs your unit, you can proceed with the update using the correct software. Try it - it isn’t going to make the situation any worse. Hope this helps. There are a whole bunch of options to help fix your Helix here: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/helixltfx-reset-procedures-and-troubleshootin-r768

I though that Andy originally started as a psychedelic bassoon player during his time in Soft Machine in the late 1960s. That led to him doing guest kazoo work for Jimi Hendrix. Your photograph is obviously from some later undocumented period when he revisited his first love.

I know these type of people are more to be pitied than scolded - and it supplies us with some cheap thrills, but this one is particularly irritating!

Thanks Phil, Trouble is, it’s like one of those movies where just when you think every thing is O.K....

Try this it may help.Click on the “Report†button on his post, file a report asking to get him blocked. I did, but everyone else who is annoyed by this fool should do the same. It may only work for a while, although that may be long enough to get this idiot into a straight jacket an back on the medication. Also there is the option to ingnore posts from this obsessive. As someone said: “It’s like deja vu all over again!â€

Drop turnings. Any guides on what settings to use?
datacommando replied to nippyjun's topic in Helix
Hi, again, Good to know that your problem is solved and you can take advantage of the quick tuning changes. Happy to know that it was something quite simple that you managed to figure out. Some things are easy to overlook until you have spent a while playing around with all those options. You will soon be a real gear head yourself! Happy to help - have fun with your Helix -
Drop turnings. Any guides on what settings to use?
datacommando replied to nippyjun's topic in Helix
Hi to “aslakjohnsen†in sunny Norway, I’m not sure what has gone wrong. If you had it work perfectly then it stops, it could be many things or one very simple thing. I’m not in the studio today so I don’t have the Helix in front of me to try to figure this out. You need a quick solution. O.K. I suggest that you download my patch from CustomTone: https://line6.com/customtone/tone/2031305/ Load my patch into an empty slot in Helix. When you have it loaded, select and delete all the used blocks, except the pitch shift/whammy. Name the patch Drop Fx (or whatever you like) and save it. Now you have a basic block with the downtuned effect. You can copy and paste the block into any other patch and it should work fine. Please make sure you have no splits in the signal path before the pitch shift block which will let the untreated bass to come through. Also make sure that you a selecting the correct pitch shifter and if it is set to mono or stereo as needed. If this works for you then you will always have a patch with the base settings ready to drop in anytime you need. Hope this makes sense. -
Personally, I’ve no issues with my various headphones and the output from Helix. Although, if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive headphone amp you might like to check out the Behringer HA400 Micro Amp Headphone Amplifier. Tiny box with 4 separate output sockets, which is really handy to have when a couple of other people need to listen in. That’s basically all I ever need it for but, it does the job. http://www.inta-audio.com/studio-recording-c57/headphones-c638/headphone-amps-c644/behringer-ha400-micro-amp-headphone-amplifier-p7017/s7024?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=behringer-ha400-micro-amp-headphone-amplifier-zb213&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=Cj0KCQiAiKrUBRD6ARIsADS2OLkCUjVAXzrQVgv7xnCQt1_ARFlotmmH0G_PlWj6Mqh4h14h679GVdsaAlmwEALw_wcB Also, I don’t know If you have already looked at this thread from almost a year ago: http://line6.com/support/topic/26959-the-mother-of-all-headphone-complaint-answers/?hl=headphone+amp Don’t know if it will help but, hey! The comment from Digital Igloo @ #31 is quite interesting.

Hi ashbizzarre, Just to clarify the looper question, page 23 of the user manual states: IMPORTANT! You may change presets while looping, but loop playback will stop unless the preset you select includes the same type of looper block (mono or stereo). Hope that helps. Also, AFAIK - The DOD mini Exp unit should work fine with he HX FX unit, as long as you can cope with the tiny thing.

Ok, I see where you're coming from now. Well, my take on it, is this. If you run analog out of Helix and into another digital unit then you have gone through a couple stages of chopping the signal, i.e.: from D to A then back to D. My reasoning would be - why would you want to do that? Back in the day, swapping D/A signals back and forth, more than likely would, cause signal degradation and introduce unwanted noise. That was the point - keep the signal clean - although maybe a certain subtle noise is the special "something" that the Virus synth has got. I've never tried doing that with a synth, simply because of noise. Now maybe guys who do the circuit bending stuff think adding noise, or whatever, is cool? Personally, I would give it a swerve, but, hey! I wouldn't go to the trouble of sticking a digital signal through some choppy D/A convertor when you can stick it through one of the many Helix fuzzbox models but, I guess that's just me and the chips inside modern interfaces are far superior and do have some kind of "magic sauce" in them.

Yep! I can see why you would need the UAD Apollo for your VST stuff, that would make sense. What I don't understand is what you mean by "USB vs Analog output"? I'm very confused by that statement. Basically, Helix is a digital processor, so everything is in the digital realm until the output hits the speakers. That's when the electrical energy is converted to vibrations in the air (analog audio). USB from Helix passes the digital signal (strings of zeros and ones) along to a DAW (or whatever) and it can be modified by some other effects (VST, AU, etc.) that is then sent out from the computer to your speakers to become audio. Or, the modified digital stuff is sent back to Helix which will squirt it out of the headphones, XLRs or 1/4 inch sockets to rattle the paper cones of your monitors and create analog audio sound waves. See why I'm confused? Essentially the whole thing is digital until the sound waves arrive in your ears. That may be somewhat over simplified but, that's what it is. Apologies, if have misconstrued what you were trying to convey, it came across as a bit weird to me. Well, that's my thought on it.

Hi there mac_mac,It kinda looks like you have already decided the way you want to work with the Helix. Seems that you need your Apollo Twin for running all your plugins. As for audio performance, and or differences, you are in the best position to evaluate the set up. Simply plug them in and analyse the results. There are no rules. Only you can judge. Have fun, but let us know how it works out for you! 😃

Yay! Another happy Helix user!
