That maybe because “I’m local†as the League of Gentlemen would say.😜

James,You’re a little late to this party! Have you been drinking the last of the summer wine?ðŸ·ðŸ·ðŸ·

Hi eightthree, First off, run through the routines suggested by “silverheadâ€, above - it may just blow the bugs off the bumper. A big thing to note is that you state you have “had a ton of trouble updating Helix every time there’s a new firmware versionâ€. Mmm. Maybe it would be better to go back and do a complete re-install. I mean go back an download all the software again and start from scratch. There is a step by step instructional video, by “gangsterusa†(Glenn DeLaune), on this forum which should be very helpful, especially if you missing a tiny, but vital bit of the procedure. Remember, the HX Edit software should be installed before attempting the Helix firmware update. http://line6.com/support/topic/30507-for-those-of-you-who-might-need-a-little-help-with-the-230-update/ Hope this is some help.

Hi Dimitrius, It seems that the main issue with phantom power and XLR connection is noise, not physical damage. See this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/21367-phantom-power-and-helix/ Also I found another thread regarding phantom power on the Helix LT - check it out. http://line6.com/support/topic/28616-helix-lt-phantom-power/?hl=phantom+power Especially read comment #4 from Digital Igloo. He states that the hardware will not be damaged by using phantom power. Digital Igloo (Eric) is the man who knows best. Late additional info - I found this in the knowledge base. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/helix-xlr-outputs-and-48v-phantom-power-r771 Hope this helps.

I should have known that someone out there had done this already. I have been looking at the HD500 in the corner and just been too lazy to blow the dust off and plug it in. Gonna have to give this a try. Hell, there is also an XT Live, an ancient BOSS GT6 and Roland guitar synth in here hiding from the daylight. Where did I leave all those patch cords and MIDI cables? Fun, fun, fun!
-
While we’re all waiting for the v2.50 Firmware to drop, I may kill some of the time by patching my old HD500 into the FX loop on the Helix. That should give me an idea of what the update will be like, although without those tasty ‘verbs. Oh, no! That would use a single send/return block to let me link 8 legacy effects together before hitting the Helix! Damn! Then, with that set up, I’m only missing out on those slinky, detailed reverbs - I really don’t need another Marshall clone. Anyone tried this with a POD HD500, or an M13, or something else?

No problem, have fun jamming along!

Nope, you misunderstand. it’s not a half, but a reference to Helix USB channels 1 & 2, which can be cut or boosted by several db. It means, to quote page 52 of the Helix LT owners manual, “Sets the level of incoming audio from USB 1/2, which bypasses all Helix processing. Normally, this should be left at 0.0dBâ€. Incidentally, I cannot see that there is an issue with whether you have to control the audio output from your Mac by using the specific program eg: iTunes, uChoob or whatever, or the OS volume control. You have to set it somewhere I don’t think you will be hitting your output device with constant level, somethings will be bound to be louder than others. Just trim your levels to suit.

This could be a valid option for the Helix at a reasonable price

I have several sets of cans around the studio but the Audio Technica ATH-M50x usually get my vote. Also a tip for anyone on a tight budget, I bought some semi open Superlux HD668B which I found to be truly astonishing and extremely inexpensive - check them out! https://www.amazon.com/Superlux-HD668B-Dynamic-Semi-Open-Headphones/dp/B003JOETX8

Hi Eric, Have a listen to what Dale Wagler (Line 6 senior industrial designer) has to say about the Helix, from 1:36 to 2:40, on this video. https://youtu.be/gQbQtPeD7NQ Even better have a look at a Helix getting a real kicking on this one from 0:26 https://youtu.be/u38HcVMHZ-M Have fun!

HO,True, this IR stuff seems to be evolving at a pace. Another product that intrigues me is Recabinet from Kazrog. It has been around for a while and I have have had this product from version one. These guys are using IRs but adding something in the way of dynamics that adds “speaker breakup†emulation. You also have either on or off axis mic positions, beside 3 distance options, near, mid and far. Helix has the mic placement distance thing, but I think the on/off axis idea would be a great addition to the Helix cab section.
-
Wow, HO now my head hurts! That concept really would cost a small fortune to implement! Never gonna happen! So, a serious question regarding this speaker model versus Impulse Response thing. Would you have any ideas as to how IK Multimedia manage to create something like the 3D Cab Room in AmpliTube 4. It gives you the ability to shift the position of 2 mics (from a selection of 18), change or combine the type of (29) speakers in any cab and have these in a variety of 6 different room spaces. Plus all the additional stuff, stomp fx, this can be run on my iPad or even iPhone for less than $100. How do they do that?
-
Damn right, sir! With regard to the idea of tuning on harmonics, here’s a clip of my old tuner - although nowadays it has a tendency to drift off the mark! 😄 https://youtu.be/hyF0m3m1Ofc

Not an oversight, more a misunderstanding. If you care to check the Helix owner’s manual, you will find on page 16 the information relating to Saving/Naming a preset. This is the same technique as described by “Joepeggio†in post #3 above. The tip from “specracer986†is a good one too - always work on a copy. There is also a Helix restore option should you inadvertently overwrite a factory preset. I suggest you also check this entry in the Line6 Knowledge Base. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/helix/helix-reset-procedures-and-troubleshooting-tricks-r768 Seek and ye shall find - hope this helps. EDIT: I have just revisited this post and it seems even more odd than I previously thought. I guess the term “editor†must be a reference to the software version rather than the physical hardware. I would imagine that when first using the software editor, that you made a backup of the content on the Helix unit. Yes! Good! That means you can save the edit with a new name and then revert to your original fail safe copy on your computer. No! Oops! Repeat - always work on a copy!
-
Cruisinon2,Guess you must have missed this one, but you may want to check post #7 from “silverhead†higher up this thread, it may clarify the weirdness of buying and selling a Helix once a week idea. It seems to be covered in the Line6 T&C’s legal stuff. Who knew?

Paid for Full Native but runs as Trial - Any Clues? (RESOLVED)
datacommando replied to datacommando's topic in Helix Native
Solution: Waited until beyond the 15 days trial period and deauthorised the computer then did a complete uninstall of the Helix Native plug-in. Launched Logic to verify that Native was gone and no longer available to use. Do a clean install of Native and re-authorise the computer and login to my account which tells me I have a valid license that does not expire. Done - no more pesky demo bits lurking in there and it looks like it is not trying to "phone home" each time you use it! -
CPU Optimization for Helix Native request
datacommando replied to vertibration's topic in Helix Native
Hi,I don't know if you spotted this discussion in the main Helix forum, it may be worth a read. http://line6.com/support/topic/29060-helix-native-software-cpu-hog-pro-tools-1271-hd-12-core-mac-pro/ Lots of users coming up with different results! -
Hi bjnette,This may help, Page 34 Helix Native Pilot's Guide: Restore Factory Setlists - Clears only Setlists 1, 2 & 8 and replaces them with the Factory Setlists 1, 2 & 8 included with the currently installed version of Helix Native. All of your presets within any other Setlists remain unaffected. This should bring back the missing items. You can find the guide here: http://line6.com/support/manuals/helix-native Or under the Native settings window. Click on the Helix Native logo at the bottom of the plug-in window and under the General Settings you have the option to restore the factory setlists. Here you can also find a button named " Helix Native Help" where you can access the Pilot's Guide. Have fun!
-
Best thing for you to do is read the Helix Native Pilot's Guide and on page 6 you will find the detailed info you require, under the heading "Removing Helix Native". http://uk.line6.com/support/manuals/helix-native/ Good luck.
-
Triryche,What you say is absolutely correct, according to the information printed on pages 5 & 6 of the Pilot's Guide. Suppose we just have to hope this is a glitch. As I stated in a previous post, when I first purchased Native, my account showed both a demo version and the full version. I guess I will have to wait for the demo period to expire before chasing this any further.
-
Yep, seriously, but don't bother to thank me for insulting you - it was entirely my pleasure!
-
That's what I was thinking/hoping too. Although, from the item above which I marked in red, it seems that only the computer is authorised - it makes no mention of the serial number keeping the software unlocked for regular use. If this thing insists on "phoning home" every time it's opened it will be of very little use to me. I feel like I have just wasted my money on this one!
-
I have a full license and my iMac Retina 27" (running Sierra) is authorised, but each and every time I open Native in Logic Pro X (latest edition) it has to connect to Line 6 to verify my account. If I don't link back to my account, Native functions as a demo version the green 15 day info showing in the bottom right of the main window. This is very annoying for me as my internet connection is really flakey and extremely slow. Also, see my previous post #10, above. Even at the best of times my broadband link is up and down like bride's nightgown.

Hi Shiloh, For some insight about noise gates you should check out this video from Ben Vesco (Malhavok) which should help. http://www.benvesco.com/blog/line-6-pod/2016/line-6-helix-tips-and-tricks-noise-gate-without-a-block/ Sustain really doesn't come from the gate but from everything in the signal chain after it, especially overdrive into a high gain amp. For clean sustain you need a compressor into a clean amp. Regarding Guitar In-Z, higher setting e.g. 1M is usually for hot pick-ups like hum-buckers and the lower setting for single coils. It's your choice but Auto is a safe bet. Here's a quote from Digital Igloo about Auto setting on Guitar In-Z " If the distortion pedal is the first block on Path 1, Helix can automatically set its Guitar Input impedance circuit to match. Just set Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Guitar In Impedance to "Auto."" Hope this helps.
