  1. Just a thought - when you say that you cannot download anything from Line 6, I guess you mean by using the Monkey app. If that's the case you could try going into the Line 6 website front end and navigate to the software downloads from there. As for the statement, "can't load specific bank from other fav's", well if those banks were created with an earlier version of Workbench (pre HD), then they won't load because AFAIK the file structure is different between the versions. I've got hundreds of trick alternate tunings and custom pickup settings from the old version of Workbench that are now totally useless, unless I recreate them all - aaaaarrrrrggggg! Hope this helps.
  2. I have bought patches from Fremen and Scott and I regard the fact that I paid as being similar to buying a friend a drink after they had done me a big, big favour. Simple as that! I know that it is not "laziness" or "lack of ability" or lack of knowledge, maybe a short cut as a time saver which I regard as valid.
  3. Hi donaldw32, Your request is more than just a little bit vague. It may help if you specified exactly which presets they are, and from where you are downloading, so we could possibly determine what file type they are and why they will not load. Please help us to help you.
  4. Hi Jay, This clip from Sean Halley is a good example of recording via USB 1/2 into a DAW, (ProTools in his case), but they are all pretty similar in use. At one minute into the video he refers to the fact that Helix has, "low latency monitoring built -in" and then about 2 minutes in, Sean mentions using the input mute button to avoid "software" monitoring and the latency and odd comb filtering effects that can happen with that. This is the way I've always done it and it works fine for me, although YMMV, as they say! As previously noted, if switching to USB 3/4 or 5/6 works for PreSonus users, then it is worth knowing as its a fix-it for them. Maybe it's something that only happens in PreSonus. I've never used it so I don't know, but thanks for the "Heads Up" on that. Oh, yeah - I always record a dry mono signal on USB 7 to have available for re-amping if needed.
  5. HI Jay, You are totally correct with your quote of the statements on page 54 of the manual. If it is fixing the issue for PreSonus users I cannot fault you on that, good work on your part, sir. It could well just be that the reason the that both "soundog" and I commented as we did, is that we are managing to avoid problems on USB 1/2 by not using the DAW software monitoring option and the horrible latency effect it produces, as noted in the first paragraph on the same page. Just a thought.
  6. Well, that's a new one to me. Got to agree with "soundog" (above) - I haven't experienced any noise problem specific to using USB 1/2 in Logic, GBand, Ableton, Reaper or Pro Tools either. I had lot of strange stuff happen on the iMac with MIDI and reamping (now fixed) but I will file that one under "very odd".
  7. I guess that would be - NO! Hell, if FX Junkie was compatible nobody on here would be clamouring for all those fancy FX, delays and reverbs to be added on Ideascale. Helix is a totally different beast
  8. Wow, mailman2020, I'm really confused! If you have to ask: "has anyone here had any good results using Helix through Studio Monitors or Powered PA?" Then I would hazard a guess that the answer would be a resounding - YES! Unless they have had issues with their equipment being mismatched in some way, it's not something that many people have complained about. If its all hooked up correctly then it's supposed to sound good using "pro gear", that's how it was designed. Something must be seriously wrong if you cannot get a good sound out of your Helix via a PA, or even more so, through "studio monitors". I haven't tried the Yamaha HS5, but the HS8 Active monitors have a great reputation as a reference speaker. During a recent studio overhaul I was going to invest in a pair of the 8" Yams but went with a couple of Tannoy Reveal 802 actives (simply because the price I got them for was an absolute "steal"). Anyhow, sound and reputation wise there's not much between the 2 brands and they are both pretty much an industry standard. I have to state that I find the sound quality from Helix through my set up is "superb" (even if I switch back to my old 5" nearfields it's damn good). If you're really not impressed listening to Helix through your current rig, then my only question has to be - What the hell were you listening to before?
  9. Hi Waltdaddy, You're not alone - this issue crops up regularly and is in several threads on here. Some say it's latency, others say it's a Core Audio USB issue. Anyhow, here is one thread to check and then you can follow any other links from within that thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/23629-popping-and-clicking-using-logic/ Hope this helps.
  10. Check this out - it's free: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/midi-guitar/id523095780?mt=8 I'm going to give this one a shot. EDIT: What an idiot - I just spotted that the app for the iPad/iPhone is the freebie version of the Jam Origin thing -Doh!
  11. Yep, a few folks have been questioning if the current Line 6 custom driver still retains "Beta" status. Maybe that could be clarified, or possibly one of the fixes in the predicted next Firm Ware update. Oh yeah, also there is that old saying - "if there is a man standing in the rain forest and there is no woman there to hear him - is he still wrong?" ;)
  12. Hi Roscoe5, None of the Variax models, Standard, HD, JTV or whatever is capable of doing "Guitar to Midi" conversion that you're after. It's an interesting notion though - it has been posted on Ideascale quite a few times, but some of that was more than a year back so don't hold your breath. Anyhow as your Variax does not have MIDI capable pickups maybe the next best option is to investigate the Fishman Triple Play system. I have no experience with the Fishman but I used to use a Roland GR33 synth and GK 2A divided pickup - (I was not very impressed with the sounds).
  13. It does - it's good to have that info available. It's worth noting that this is/could be a potential issue for FL users, but the OP (Lee10) states he is using Logic, so that makes it a Mac/Helix problem only. BTW, did the snap, crackle and pop interference become a serious bug on some Windows machines? I thought they were immune and it was just a Class Compliant Mac Core Audio thing back in earlier OSX 10 .X.X Yosemite iterations? I maybe wrong (I usually am - according to my wife). :P
  14. Hi Lee, The popping and clicking that you refer to could well be an older issue that some Helix users were having with Logic and OSX and the "driver" which needed to be replaced by the Custom Line 6 Driver. The native Mac OSX driver also messed up the sample rate options - IIRC the Mac would get stuck on 44100.0Hz even when Helix showed the other options ie: 48000.0Hz, 82200.0Hz and 96000.0Hz as available. See this thread for info about the driver: http://line6.com/support/topic/19809-helix-mac-driver-100-public-beta-now-available/page-2?do=findComment&comment=177776 I'm not sure it worked for everyone, but it may be worth a try. Good luck and let us all know if it works for you. Hope this helps.
  15. You may find some hints and tips for basic set up here. Maybe this is what you remembered reading. http://line6.com/support/topic/22734-helix-as-interface/?do=findComment&comment=173451 Hope this is some help.
  16. I got some of them, love 'em, they're a bit of a studio standard set of cans in my world - so, how good are your ears? Any idea what's happening? Well, have you ever been to a Motörhead gig and did you maybe accidentally stick your head in the bass bins? Guess that would do it! (Feeble attempt at humour!)
  17. Your humour seems to have missed the mark with brother Miro - whereas, I think I broke a rib. Excellent! Keep on truckin'!
  18. Okey dokey dude, We were just trying to help - obviously not good enough. Dazed and confused! I'm outta here, I need to communicate with people who understand what is happening!
  19. Hi Duncann, Quote: "a drastic change, an abstract, subjective, non-quantifiable component can be prone to loss" Wow, that's really a esoteric statement and I don't (or won't) try to quantify it, but having listened to some of your "soundclound" cuts - I guess I have to agree. You seem to be very precise about your tone. Very good. I really didn't mean that "re-amping" could be the "be all and end all of tone" in the general scheme of things. Thing is, it's got to be a good place to start for a lot or "re-amping" folks (novice or not) who aren't being too analytical about the whole thing and simply using it as a starting point for different options to try various FX and tones. Then it's got to be down to the "serious audiophile" in them to hear the difference. YMMV! Just a thought
  20. Outstanding! - LMAO! Damn - I thought typewriter ribbon would have bit the dust! Amazing. If, as you say, you like the sound of the Firehawk 1500 - why will you never buy it? That doesn't make sense! What else would you choose? I will paste a copy here of the info which I left for you in the other thread regarding Variax 600, Mavericks OS etc. Guess you must have missed this one. Miro, I saw this post and also your other one in this thread (http://line6.com/sup...ra/?do=findComment&comment=178274) I understand that you have an issue about the Line 6 software and the OSX updates, but there are "workarounds". "As there is no software to edit old Variax (Variax 600 in my case) - shall I throw the guitar away???" "Shall all those, who bought old Variax guitars just trash them?" Quick answer - NO! There is software to edit your 600. You just need to use the newer Sierra compatible Line 6 Monkey v1.73 (Sept 2016) and the old version of Workbench v1.75 (2012). No need to trash anything. The older Variax models and the newer HD versions use different (modified) technology, so you need different software to communicate with each one. There doesn't seem to be a "universal language" for all models. I have both a Variax 600 and a JTV59 model and simply have to make do with using Workbench HD for changing things in the JTV and use the older combination of Workbench and Monkey to hookup to the old 600 through the Variax USB interface . Not exactly an ideal solution, but it works. And, when I think about it, once I have loaded a selection of custom models and alternative tunings into the 600 I don't really need to access the old Workbench all that much. Same goes for the HD version - although it's nice to have it available, it's simply not something I need to use everyday, week or month. I genuinely hope this helps. There was possibly a little too much sarcasm in the replies to the other post you made! Best regards Sorry for repeating the post here, but I thought it may help!
  21. Happy to help Colonel, Glad to know you are having fun with this technique, and it's just so easy with the Helix USB routing. I've been using the re-amping "trick" for a long time, it gives you so many options. If you decide at a later date that the delay or reverb were a little bit too much - simply run the dry track until you find what you want, or leave them out altogether. Need a cleaner tone, more crunch or a dirty tone, just re-amp the whole track until you nail "that perfect take"!
  22. Check this ColonelF, Enjoy.
  23. 24. Miro, Me too - I also feel your pain, I own Variax 600 - and no, not everyone as lucky as you having a virtual machine with an old system. Sadly, I backed-up all my altered tunings and everything else in bundles to an 8" floppy disk -Doh! Could be worse - I know a guy with 1934 National Duolian that may need a new cone! Disaster. Anyone know where I can get a new ribbon for a typewriter?
