  1. The electrical supply in Ireland is 230v 50hz. The plugs and sockets are different from the USA involving a three-pronged formation, the same as those used in the United Kingdom, so it should have been O.K. Maybe due to an accidental Guinness spillage?
  2. Jorgen,, Yes, I do get your point, but you also did say you had misinterpreted the label "AUX" Suggestion. Helix has 4 separate channels available, so set one to the mono "AUX" in as if it was a guitar signal, then pass it straight to the output with no other processing involved! It's not as elegant or convenient as some of the other options posted in this thread, but worth a shot. As for your previously deleted comment, consider my history lesson a freebie, gratis, no charge! Have fun with your Helix.
  3. Ye gods, Just spotted this on teamrock.com. I used to drink with Allan and the various members of Zany Woodruff, Museum and others every Friday night in the late 1960s. Cleckheaton was a wild place back then. Will be much missed. http://www.zanywoodruff.com/related-bands/the-museum-1967/ The real Allan Holdsworth website has crashed!
  4. Ha ha ha. You will have to watch out for that Greasy Kid's Stuff. You don't want to tarnish that nice brassware!
  5. The AUX input is mono - it's designed for the input of a guitar or bass with active pickups, although you could use it for a MP3 player.I don't understand what extra bunch of gear you think you would need for playback? If you check Chad Boston's informative video above, he shows how to do what you want with a Y splitter cable and a small playback device. Sort of things that you could have in your pockets, it doesn't need a truck and a team of roadies to implement. If you went the iPad route you would maybe need the camera connection kit and a USB cable - not such a big deal. I also suggest that you read post #31, above, from Rewolf48 who pointed out that both Fractal and Kemper kit don't have 1/8" inputs available for hooking up your MP3 player. I really fail to see why this should appear so difficult to work with. Oh, yeah. Regarding the comment you made earlier and deleted, you mentioned that 1/8" Jacks had been used for centuries. Maybe you meant decades, they were introduced in the 1950s for connecting earpieces on transistor radios. Quarter inch phono plugs were used in the original manual telephone exchanges around 1878, making it the oldest electrical connector standard still in use,
  6. Yay! Fixed! Big cheer for the speedy repair crew!
  7. Ah, the amp in the room question. This is a topic that crops up quite a lot. The thing to bear in mind is Helix is designed to sound as if you are listening to a miked up amp and cab fed into in the control room monitors of a studio. So, rather than re-type the whole thing, I suggest that you have a read at the posts in this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/26752-pointers-for-newbie-thinking-of-moving-from-traditional-combos/?do=findComment&comment=207494 Hope it helps with your question.
  8. No one intended to come across as snarky, but your original post did seem to have been made by someone who had not even bothered to read the manual. I would expect the usual response, on any user forum anywhere on the internet, to be along the lines of RTFM! I usually try to help with queries about Helix stuff, or point people to the place where they can find an answer. In the case of your original post, it appeared that the most basic guide would be the solution required. You decided that didn't like my reply, that's fine, I won't lose any sleep over it! Have fun with your Helix.
  9. O.K. That's cleared that up - flame off! You are correct in thinking this is the place discussing all things Helix, but the place for suggesting things that you feel require adding or improvement is on "Ideascale". People will vote it up if they agree with you - simple solution. I realise that opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one, but for a fan of Helix you also appear to find a lot to criticise. Lots of negativity. As for me - I'm very happy with my Helix and how it all works. With regard to the issue of low resolution Editor software, Did you not pause to think that maybe it has been developed like that because of the various platforms it has to function on? It's the "lowest common denominator" - not every Helix owner will be using a Retina display. Have a nice day.
  10. Ouch! You really should be careful who you choose to insult with a cheap jibe! "This pixelish look takes away some seriousness and professionalism – maybe you think this is spoiled whinery." Yes it is! Maybe you should have looked at it using an old Atrari 1040ST or Commodore 64 if you want to see chunky pixels. Let me advise you, young man, that since finishing art college in 1969, for my day job I have worked as a graphic design professional. Since the introduction of the Apple Mac in 1984 I have been a freelance consultant for digital design/reprographics and photographer, a specialist Photoshop image retoucher/trainer, supplying my skills to a blue chip client base throughout the U.K. and Europe. Did someone die and leave you an opinion about everything? It appears that many of your posts are very critical of some of the features in Helix hardware and software. I really cannot comprehend why you seem to find so many issues with a product that spent so many years in development. If you are such a "hot" concept person, try pitching your ideas direct to the marketing department at Line 6 and see if they run with it. Sorry if some forum users are not happy with my response, but I think I am starting to smell a troll, check his posts. Or maybe it's just a puppy with a new toy - far too excited Did you ever read this: "To change the default resolution, select "System Preferences" under the Apple menu and then click the "Displays" icon. These four scaled resolutions are listed ranging from "Larger Text" to "More Space." On the 15-Inch models, the supported scaled resolutions are 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1280x800, and 1024x640."
  11. Ditto http://line6.com/data/6/0a06439c975d5787c3e351aa0/application/pdf/Helix%202.0%20Owners%20Manual%20-%20Rev%20D%20-%20English%20.pdf you beat me to it silverhead. Another one learning to fly without basic instruction.
  12. Yes, "Open in Low Resolution" is the default option for the app, but I really cannot comprehend what the problem is with that. I have the Helix Editor running on my iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch and it looks perfectly fine to me.

Ah, the "glissando guitar" technique, one of my favourites. Here's a quote from an old (2010) "Guitar Player" interview with Steve Hillage, a premier exponent of gliss. How do you create your classic glissando sound today? Glissando involves stroking the strings with a metal rod. It’s different from using a bottleneck in that you put the metal rod on the strings and stroke the strings right there on the neck. It interacts with the harmonics of the guitar to produce a unique unearthly and angelic sound. Daevid Allen of Gong developed it after seeing Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd doing it with a Zippo lighter. In terms of effects, I use the Zoom 9050 with a modest amount of distortion, a lot of compression, subtle chorus, amp modeling, and a lot of delay set to around 300 milliseconds. Here's Steve explaining the effect. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_mwQdAQqd8k Also check out the Glissando Guitar Orchestra https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2jHqds3IqlY
  14. Good to know you are going to study how to use Reaper and Helix together. If you bought a helicopter, I think you would take few lessons to learn how fly the thing first. Good luck with your learning how all this stuff works. It's an old idea, but read the manuals first.
  15. "gunpointmetal" is correct! Well they say a picture is worth a thousand words - so, here ya go! A picture of some icon buttons that look like a speaker, and when you select/hover over them they show either, Record Monitoring: OFF, Record Monitoring: ON or Record Monitoring: AUTO. Also, what I don't understand is just why you are recording backing tracks directly from YouTube over the internet. Why not download the audio to your PC first? It does seem a very complicated way of working.
  16. Rather than type out all the possibilities again, check out this thread and see if it helps fix your issue. http://line6.com/support/topic/26327-helix-not-displaying-the-8-snapshots-on-the-fss/?hl=snapshots Or here http://line6.com/support/topic/26399-snapshots-and-presets-disapeared/?hl=snapshots And check out your globals under the "hamburger" menu for the stomp/snap settings, recall/discard, per-preset or whatever. Good luck.
  17. Completely nuts? Yeah well at least you gave it a try. Using you band's PA system should be just fine though - I can't see a problem there. As for headphones - well that's a whole different set of issues. This forum is littered with discussions about headphone usage - just do a search. The AKG K240 Mark II should be just fine too, a nice flat response across the frequency range. Just don't expect a tone created with cans to sound as good/the same when coming through the PA. I find I use various sets of headphones for different jobs. I usually choose closed back Sennheiser and Audio-Technica ATH-M50x when tracking to avoid spill. I also use some extremely cheap, but good, semi open backed like your K240s, for long mixing sessions with the Tannoys switched off. Weigh away - they are all tools to do the job.
  18. May I suggest that you read this thread (link below), which was started by someone who plugged their Helix into a Home Cinema HiFi system and was less that impressed. Clue in the name - Home! The speakers are "voiced' in a different way to handle all those action movie explosions, etc. You really are not going to get what you want this way. Beside that, what would you intend to play through at rehearsal or a live gig? This has got to be a joke? If not, and you are serious, then consider investing in a FRFR rig or some powered studio reference monitors. Please check this - especially the comments from "silverhead and "Digital Igloo", a Line 6 Product Manager: http://line6.com/support/topic/26426-first-steps-with-the-helix-seem-a-bit-disappointing/
  19. Andertons website actually states. Only available to preorder at this time. Delivery expected Tuesday 18th April. Product manager "abonica" , post #16 also predicts the same date.
  20. Well, just imagine how Fractal owners must feel. How many variants of their product have been released since the original came out? I think it's called "progress".
  21. Personally not seen that glitch before, but from you post I guess this is an intermittent problem? With something like this the usual suggestions would be to re-flash the firmware and reset the globals. This may seem obvious but have you run through all various reset options using the foot switches? If not give them a try. https://helixhelp.com/reset-options/ Hope this helps, good luck.
  22. I really will have to stop cross posting replies to the same issue in different threads, but here we go again - one final time. It seems that with every update to the Firmware there is going to be some changes to the supplied Factory preset lists. Here is a quote from Digital Igloo about that very thing: Digital_Igloo, on 18 Jan 2017 - 9:43 PM, said: We add/remove/swap/change/tweak presets pretty much every FW release, some more than others. Unfortunately, any list would be out of date quickly. Another forum user Ben Vesco (aka Malhavok) has been tracking the changes to the presets on Firmware versions prior v2.20. I'm not sure if he intends to keep up with documenting the changes, but you can see what he has done already on this page: http://benvesco.com/...e/line-6-helix/ So, now we all know - Back up all your stuff prior to installing an update! As it clearly states in the release notes for V2.20.0 NOTE: You may want to back up individual Setlists so you can restore them to empty setlists without affecting the new 2.20 factory presets. Hope this helps
  23. Yay! Glad to know you got the update done, even if it did take a while. I'm a Mac jockey, so I haven't encountered the Admin Mode trick, but the USB thing is becoming a commonly known issue. AFAIK, someone on this forum was going to collate a list of all these various snags and how to avoid them. Several folk have commented that Line 6 really should review the Release Notes for the updates. By review, I think they actually mean - simplify. OK enjoy your freshly upgraded Helix.
