Oh, well, worth a try. It looks like you will have to wait for Customer Support to respond, but also follow up on the suggestion from @rd2rk in his post above, and contact the previous owner to check out the details on his Line 6 account.

Hi, It's a great help to know exactly what Helix hardware device you have and the version of the firmware that's installed, along with details of your computer and operating system, plus any "error code"displayed by your system. Help us to help you. First up, - What the hell is DSP overload? As in - "Failed to get preset names. Operation failed due to DSP overload. [code -8611]". Now all your presets are blank? That would seem to indicate that you may not be running the same revision numbers of HX Edit and the Firmware that is installed in your hardware product. O.K let's try this - perform a factory reset of your hardware! As you failed to say what it is that you are using I suggest that you go here and scroll through to the appropriate reference and follow the instructions given there. https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options I would also advise you to ensure that both your HX Edit and Firmware are the latest versions. Furthermore, you really should take advantage of the downloadable Owner's Manual for each of the Helix family of products to avoid any more catastrophes. Remember, it's a computer, if it can go wrong - it will. It's not a question of it it goes wrong - it's a question of when! Let's face it, you wouldn't buy a Learjet and expect to fly it without a few flying lessons first. YouTube is full of "how to" with Helix videos. Hope this helps/makes sense.

This sort of issue is usually down to some sort of USB Voodoo and the various malevolent demons that infest the ether waves between computers and any external hardware. Sometimes my computer pops up a message saying - "can't find the printer". Well, I can! It's the bloody great big box of tricks with flashing lights, over in the corner, with the words Canon Pixma Pro-100S on the front. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, While you wait, you could check the final post this thread regarding the option to display of the serial number on a HX Stomp XL. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Well, do it! What harm will it do? It's compression, it makes quiet things louder and loud things quieter. Doing it for yourself is the only way to learn. The Deluxe Comp is similar to studio compressors like the LA Studio Comp with lots of different ratios to try out, from 2:1 right up to 20:1 The 3 Band Comp, which as the name suggests splits the input into 3 signal bands Hi, Mid, Low and each can be compressed differently. It's similar to having a compressor with 3 EQ settings, so it should be fine with your Bass. You might want to consider buying "The Big Book of Helix Tips & Tricks" by Craig Anderton who contributes to this forum. It covers most stuff you might need to know about using the Helix products to it's best. An updated version is nearing completion so anyone who has already bought a copy will be able to update free. Get it here: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AndertonHX-e--sweetwater-publishing-the-big-book-of-helix-tips-and-tricks Hope this helps/makes sense.

Really? You feel the need for someone to answer this for you? I don’t know what you have been using prior to the Helix floor, but I would guess that some sort of speaker cabinet, Impulse Response, load box, or EQ sculpting was involved? You say: - “When using single amp with no cabs attached in the signal chain it sounds like very distorted tiny speaker.” Hmm… well, what did you anticipate the the sound would be like? I often tell people that because the Helix is a digital modelling system you can do things that would not generally be possible in the real world, with out the risk of anything blowing up! But, ITRW, As a general rule, you cannot play guitar through just an amp head. The head makes no sound on its own. In fact, using a tube amp head without a speaker connected is dangerous, and can seriously damage the amp. The head requires a load to distribute its power, usually provided by a speaker cabinet. It may be advisable to read this:- https://homemusiccreator.com/can-play-through-just-amp-head/ Hope this helps/makes sense

Hi, I just had a peek at this preset and it contains 2 IRs - It appears to be the file for the Helix on CustomTone posted by J Fraser, and it does state:- Line 6 Helix tone reminiscent of the song "Rock This Town" by the Stray Cats. Used with 2 Ownhammer IR's high and low cuts to taste - OH 412 MRBW GNR OH2F-00 - OH 412 MRBW GNR R121-FRED. For a tone demo see here: https://youtu.be/m5EljUCsZvk" That code means the Impulse Response associated with that preset isn’t available in the expected slot. Hope this helps makes sense.

Hi, I didn’t upgrade - I went straight in for the “full fat” version right from the off, way back in November 2016. No regrets - used daily - it does all I require (studio based). If you have the cash, don’t think about it - do it!

Hi, You could ask many users for their guidance, but ultimately only you can decide if this change of platform is a good idea. I would therefore suggest that in order to judge the quality of the current effects available in the HX Effects box, you grab a download of Helix Native which is fully functional for 15 days - FREE. Helix Native can work as a plug-in for your DAW (there are free versions of many if you don’t already have one), and if you set the “hardware compatibility” option to HX Effects, you should be able to assess the overall results. If as you state:- “I’m all ears” - give it a whirl. Have fun! Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, You could try grabbing a couple of these available from CustomTone - free. At least you will be able to see what other folk are using to emulate this stuff. https://line6.com/customtone/search/?submitted=1&family=hx_stomp&search_term=Shadows Note: one of the contributors has a website where he is selling a bunch of “Shadows” stlye presets for £4 https://tonegarage.co.uk/product/the-shadows-for-line-6-helix/ He also has a link to a demo on YouTube - I didn’t check it out but here it is. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Are there any known HX Product family problems using Mac OS Ventura
datacommando replied to MartinDorr's topic in Helix
Hi, The Apogee Gio Support page states that:- GiO is not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. I would imagine that Apogee now regard the Gio as a Legacy product, even though it isn't listed a such. AFAIK, It was released to specifically work with Mac OS 10.5.7 and Logic Pro 9 both of which arrived 2009. I guess you're out of luck with getting the Gio to work on your new Ventura Mac. Although, they are still available to buy new on Amazon in the UK - Caveat emptor! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Apogee-GiO-Studio-quality-interface-controller/dp/B002XG4ZXM -
How to wire HXFX with Trio+ and use amp effects loop?
datacommando replied to Voxen's topic in Helix
Hi, I should point out that I don’t own a Trio+, or the HXFX, I have the Helix floor, so I am only going on what I have gleaned from previous posts about hooking up a Trio+. I was initially following on from the theory, that because you have 2 Send and Return blocks in the HX Effects, you could simply hook up the Trio to the second FX Loop as suggested by @rd2rk in the earlier post above. The thing is, with the way you are working using the 4CM, this means that you only have one more SEND/RETURN pair of jack sockets available. With the Trio+ everything is mono, unless you have headphones connected to it, but another really obvious thing about it is - it needs to have a clean guitar signal directly into the box before any other processing. This is essential to be able to have the Trio “learn” what you’re playing (see the Trio+ manual), therefore you really need to connect your guitar into the DigiTech box and then tap the signal coming out of it back into the HXFX. In the previous post I linked back to a thread where people were connecting to a full Helix with onboard amp modelling, whereas, you need to break out to an external amp. In that thread there are a couple of links to CustomTone presets that may be worth investigating. Particularly the post from @deadlocked where he mentions some of the quirks of setting the Trio to work with the Variax. You could try downloading his preset and strip out the amp/cab blocks and further modify it to see if you can get it to function with your stuff. If you cannot get a Helix preset to load into HX Edit, because you have to connect it to you HXFX, you can download the 15 day free trial of Helix Native and us that as a file chopper to strip out the unnecessary blocks. Sorry, that’s about all I can suggest - unless you have a small mixer, which might allow you access to more routing options than you currently have with the HXFX onboard connections. It could still end up with wiring like a mad woman’s knitting! Good luck. -
Is there a way to direct a dry signal from Return 2 to USB audio? (LT)
datacommando replied to Horseflesh's topic in Helix
Hi, As you’re aware, each of the 4 available signal paths in your Helix are stereo and can be assigned to various outputs. So far, so good, but as you have discovered even though you can record the dry mono audio from USB 7 from your Variax, and the Mic (Vox) on USB 8, although you say the processed Mic audio through the Multi out “doesn’t sound right”, to you. O.K., fair point, but as you state that you’re recording this stuff into a DAW, I think that you really need be tracking the guitar and vocal separately. That way it should all be very clean, and the isolated audio paths will reveal anything that needs tidying up, or reworking (re-recording). I think I could live without tracking both together and using the input from the dry USB Mic audio simply as a guide track. It might be me, but I would possibly rethink my approach to recording this stuff. Maybe you are finding problems that are not really there, or if necessary you should track your audio with an audio interface that will allow you to monitor exactly as you need without any latency. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
How to wire HXFX with Trio+ and use amp effects loop?
datacommando replied to Voxen's topic in Helix
Hi again, I knew that this had been covered previously in these threads - this was for Trio+ with Helix, but I don't think you don't have enough Send/Returns for 4 cable use, even using the Trio FX Loop, unless you can see another option. See the diagrams supplied by @a2dconverterguy posted 4th July 2016 - and modify your own set up to suit. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
How to wire HXFX with Trio+ and use amp effects loop?
datacommando replied to Voxen's topic in Helix
Yeah - Line 6 helped by putting this info in the HX Effects 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Page 8 Rear Panel “SENDS/RETURNS 1-2 These 1/4" ins and outs can be used as FX loops for inserting external stompboxes between specific blocks in the HX Effects device or as inputs and outputs for running 4-Cable Method rigs.” Page 46 - Global Settings > Ins/Outs Send/Retrn1 Send/Retrn2 Choose “Inst[rument]” when using a Send/Return pair as an FX loop for stompboxes; choose “Line” when using a Send/Return pair as an FX loop for line-level rack processors. Hope this helps/makes sense. -

Helix Native quit working after hard drive clone, error 8207

Is there a way to direct a dry signal from Return 2 to USB audio? (LT)
datacommando replied to Horseflesh's topic in Helix
Hi, O.K. I have a floor model, but I quickly put this together which should point you in the right direction with your Helix LT. Top row is Guitar In to Multi Out (USB1&2) fully processed audio and the dry DI to the DAW will appear on USB 7. Now this is a bit of a cheat because unlike the Helix Floor your LT doesn't have either a dedicated Mic or Aux input - therefore I put a split in the beginning of the Mic path after the Return 1 Input, Now Path 2A can contain whatever FX you require for the vocal and that will go to USB 3/4, and Path 2B is split off to feed USB 5/6 into your DAW. There is a compressor on path 2B that I used to make the split, but you can bypass that easily. You may have to play around with how your DAW deals with the USB inputs, by 3/4 have the FX applied and can be treated as a stereo feed, and USB 5/6 when panned centre should be like 2 identical mono signals, or add a mono gain block just before the output. Anyhow, load it and up and play around until you achieve what you are aiming for. Note: This forum would not allow me to upload the "Gtr_Vox+USB .hlx" file directly . I had to ZIP it - AAARRRRAGGGGHHHH! Why? Total madness! Hope this helps/makes sense. Gtr_Vox+USB.hlx.zip -
Helix Native quit working after hard drive clone, error 8207
datacommando replied to ArtieJ's topic in Helix Native
Hi, In my previous reply I asked - “what has changed in your workflow for things to become “suddenly broke”? Hmm… well, I’m a Mac Pilot, not Windows, but from your reply it would seem to indicate something screwed up with this hard drive problem which you didn’t mention originally. Now you state that you have been using Helix Native 3.15 for around 9 months without any problems. Then, later you say that you had “a hard drive boot problem last month”. Also, you say that “last week the problem started”. Then you updated to 3.51 in an attempt to fix the issue, but that failed. Looking at this series of events, what would you think is the fault? My best guess is that your other VST3 plug-ins, etc. are not as fussy as HXN for copy protection! Here is a similar problem on a Mac where the guy was using Migration Assistant to move his stuff to a new machine (hard drive) - you will need to completely uninstall Native and start from scratch. This is the link for the solution on the Mac - should be very similar on your PC, if not search though the previous posts on here for the Windows routine - if you don’t find it - contact Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
In case it missed your attention there has been a global pandemic over the past couple of years which has had an impact on the supply of various parts. One of the major things to be hit was the manufacture of microchips. See the blue banner at the top of this page - “Impact of Global Materials Shortage”. You give the impression that, as you put it, “3 generations in” you are expecting no more development of this line? Over on TGP, it has been noted that Digital Igloo has mentioned yet more firmware for the Helix is still in progress. Nothing makes sense in 2023 - waiting for the next big thing to come rolling down the tracks is an exercise in futility. You could wait forever! You really should buy what’s available right now to get the job done, or wait in vain. I love the way that you describe how easy it would be to create this mythical beast of Helix 2 - “install newer DSPs, a modern heatsink and some extra memory DONE!” - Wow! I’m surprised that Eric hasn’t thought of that one already and told the team to just get on with it. Yeah, right!

Helix Native quit working after hard drive clone, error 8207
datacommando replied to ArtieJ's topic in Helix Native
Hi again, O.K. I feel that I’m missing something here. In the first post you have said - “Worked since last April, suddenly broke.” What you didn’t say is, what has changed in you workflow for things to become “suddenly broke”. Later in that first post you state -“I updated HN to 3.51, no change”. This seems indicate to me that this issue was not caused by Helix Native 3.51, but prior to that, but you didn’t provide any real clues. Did you actually mean that this issue started with the 3.50 version, or prior to that? When trying to troubleshoot this stuff, it’s a great help to have as much relevant information as possible to clarify the situation. For example - “suddenly broke” wouldn’t mean much to an auto mechanic who set out looking for an electrical fault only to find a fuel line blockage. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, First up - Is your HX Stomp running the latest 3.50 firmware? If it is - after installation did you preform a factory reset as per the Release Notes recommendation? If not - do it now, to see if this fixes the problem. Also, check the HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual - page 21 - Block Order and Stereo Imaging. Furthermore - when you are describing weird and bizarre things happening to your presets, it’s great help if you upload a copy of the preset that you are having this issue with. Having in example preset would allow other users to check it out on their hardware to see if they can track down the cause. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Ahh… the usual quote from Digital Igloo is - “Soon!” Works every time.
