According to the release notes - Delay (Dual only)—Although the new cabs in 3.50 perfectly line up with one another, there may be situations where you want to delay one side very slightly, to perhaps impart a bit of phase incoherence or at higher values, to increase the apparent stereo spread. A little goes a long way here “Perfectly line up” sounds like linear to me. As for - “Would shifting the delay post cab clean this up then?” Do it, and see what happens - you’re not likely to damage anything.
-
Hi, Is it me - I really don’t see how there can be a problem here? If you want to check out the new cabs - simply plug your guitar into your audio interface, open up the DAW and add HX Native as a channel insert plug-in. Set up any signal chain you wish in Native, including the full (Sunn) Moo)))n Model T and 4x12 (Sunn) Moo)))n T75 (single or dual) cabinet a choose from a whole bunch of (12) different mics, then play and enjoy! Rinse and repeat! Hope this helps/makes sense. You may have a long wait for a straight power amp.
-
Short answer - no - or rather not that I'm aware of. All the amps in HX Native are either the full Amplifier, full Amplifier+Cabinet, or Preamp only. I know many people do this the other way round by using a Helix model Preamp into anything from an Electro Harmonix 44 Magnum to a Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 or whatever. I realise people like to experiment, but is there something that you particularly don't like about the Helix full amplifier models that makes you want to use a different pre?

Digital Level Out not working after 3.50 update.
datacommando replied to fourchimney's topic in Helix
Hi, When you performed the Firmware update to v3.50 did you follow the backup and restore procedure? Part of the restore process is to put your Global setting back to how the were prior to the Update, which will have reset them to their factory defaults. If your Global setting had become corrupted and you have another recent backup that contains them it is possible to use HX Edit to restore only the Globals by unchecking the other restore options. Hope this helps/make sense. Oh, yeah, you said "I discovered this at a gig this past weekend...". Well, this has been stated many, many times in these forums: - First Rule of Helix Club is NEVER, EVER, UPDATE TO A NEW FIRMWARE BEFORE AN IMPORTANT GIG, RECORDING SESSION, AUDITION OR ANY SITUATION IN WHICH YOU GETTING PAID MAY BE INVOLVED, ETC. Second rule: "FAIL SAFE - ALWAYS WORK ON A COPY" -
Hi, Helix native is the plug-in version of the full Helix hardware device. In fact, technically it can be more than that, because it is not limited by the hardware versions on board DSP, the only limitation is your computer's available RAM. The things that it doesn't have are the hardware connectors, Loopers and the physical Send/Return and FX loops, everything else is the same built into a 64 bit AU, VST or AAX plug-in format. 60+ amps, 30+ cabinets and 100+ effects. The best thing for you to do is to try it for yourself by loading it into your DAW and play around with it. Go here and download the 15 day fully functional Free Trial:- https://line6.com/helix/helixnative.html Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, If you have suffered a failed installation, or encounter a situation where you need to re-install the current firmware, go here and follow the advice in the post. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix Update 3.0.1 "Boot Failure, Entered Update Mode!"
datacommando replied to sventydeman's topic in Helix
Well, what a surprise! You really didn't expect the "Boot Failure, Entered Update Mode" screen? Then on the second attempt, even while following Sascha's "How to Recover from a Failed Update", you were surprised to see the same thing again? Honestly not sure what to do now? Well, if that's the case you should read the Release Notes, especially point 2 in the "How do I update to 3.50" section which stated in BIG lettering - THIS IS NORMAL. How do I update to 3.50? IMPORTANT! The 3.50 update process may take 30 MINUTES OR MORE TO COMPLETE. This is totally normal, as it includes significant improvements to Helix Core and thousands of IR files. Updating Helix/HX Hardware With Helix/HX connected to your computer, launch HX Edit (3.01 or higher), and make sure you're signed in. HX Edit knows when a new update is available and will walk you through the entire update procedure for both hardware and software, including backing up everything to your computer. IMPORTANT! If you're running HX Edit 3.00 or older, download HX Edit 3.50 and repeat step 1. HX Edit 3.50 (macOS): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=11599 HX Edit 3.50 (Windows): https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=11598 Helix Floor/Rack/LT only: Halfway through the update to 3.50, Helix's LCD reads "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine. You're almost there. HX Edit will display a message indicating the device must be reset. Click resume and wait for the second part of the update to complete. Perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp OPTIONAL: Performing a factory reset loads the new 3.50 Factory Presets, but restoring from your backup will overwrite these. Spend some time exploring these and export the factory presets you want to keep (or drag them to your desktop). If you have unused setlists in Helix Floor/Rack/LT, you can also export the entire FACTORY 1 bundle for loading into an unused setlist later. From the top File menu, select Restore From Backup... If you don't have any important presets in Setlist 1, click the disclosure triangle next to Presets and uncheck the first setlist's box; this will retain 3.50's FACTORY 1 setlist. Select the backup file created in Step 1 and click Restore Backup. It's only software - if you screw up, you can always revert to the previous version of the firmware. Furthermore, this thread was specifically relevant to failed updates of version 3.0.1 from December 2020 Hope this helps/makes sense! -
Hi, Yes you can flip the phase on regular imported IRs, but the OP was having problems with the new Dual Cab blocks which allow you to add a delay between the cabs to introduce a little phasing. From the notes on the new dual cabs: Pan (Dual only)—Moves the signal left or right across the stereo sound field. For example, if you're running a stereo playback system with two or more speakers, panning the first cab to Left 100 and the second cab to Right 100 can make your tone sound notably wider. Press the knob to return to Center Delay (Dual only)—Although the new cabs in 3.50 perfectly line up with one another, there may be situations where you want to delay one side very slightly, to perhaps impart a bit of phase incoherence or at higher values, to increase the apparent stereo spread. A little goes a long way here In the end, it would seem that the OPs issue wasn’t with the new cabs, but how he had his DAW monitoring set. I guess some days are like that. ;-)

Hi, Ah, the dreaded USB voodoo - it can catch out the unwary, especially when some folks think, “Well, it worked with my…” (insert whatever here) doesn’t necessarily mean it will function for data transfer in to your Helix device. This is such a common occurrence that if you click on the black dot, containing a white circle and question mark in the lower right of this screen, you can then see the Help Centre pop up window. Scroll down to reveal the “Common Product FAQ” which has a section named “USB Connection Issues”. This gives the usual troubleshooting routines to try. Glad to know that you have managed to successfully update your unit -enjoy!

Hi, I’ve not encountered any phase weirdness so far with my Helix floor, but still exploring the new features. You said that you opened an existing preset and swapped out the old cabs for the new ones then this happened. As noted by “rd2rk” in the post above - perform a factory reset, which should have happened after the update, at the same time the hardware unit should have gone into the “Rebuilding Presets” routine. The rebuild is to ensure the old presets are compatible with the updated Core system. If this has not been done, all sorts of weirdness may happen. You didn’t say what hardware device this is happening with, but you can find the factory reset and rebuild options here: https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I have just read you post again and I noticed that you are using a “dual cab block”. You may want to check this thread regarding phase issues on dual cabs:-

Hi, again, Hmm… A lot more than cabs and mics in any recorded audio, especially when trying to replicate a famous tone. I’ve always found this sort of tone chasing rather futile. As someone once said “we were going to do a Black Sabbath song, but screw ‘em, they never did any of ours!”. Those guys spend a small fortune on producers and studio time and equipment to create their sound. They could possibly be playing from the control room out into a combination of different amps and cabs, further treated with various type of EQ, compression, delays and reverbs. It’s never just simply dangling an SM57 from the top of a cab. CustomTone is full of “this is dead on, and it’s my take on Steve Vai, Satch, Mark Knopfler et al”, and most people are bitterly disappointed to find that when they download the preset and are sitting in their basement/garage, or whatever, it never sounds like they expect. Many factors are involved, such as monitoring system, type of guitar/pickups, string gauge, technique etc., but basically it’s because you are not Steve Vai, Satch or any of the others. Rick Beato did a thing on why nobody can sound like Jeff Beck, because Jeff Beck is inimitable, purely because of how he plays - doesn’t matter even if you have his custom shop signature strat. Anyhow, I’m not sure if you’re aware of a book written by Craig Anderton, in which Craig explains techniques for creating cab tones by using only EQs. Clever stuff. When not doing his Sweetwater thing Craig is also an occasional contributor to this forum. You may wish to indulge. Hope this helps/makes sense.

When restoring from a backup, you have the option to install only the Global settings if you wish, that will leave all your other stuff as is. If you made another backup recently, you could possibly recover you Globals from that backup. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, That’s not exactly a rundown on what happened, because when requesting assistance from other forum users, it’s a great help to let them know what computer and operating system you’re using and what particular hardware device you are trying to update. Help us to help you! Re: “tried using hx edit to update everything great suddenly helix floor is stuck on boot failure”. The Release Notes for v3.50 firmware fully documents the “Boot Failure” issue - it’s a known part of the update of the Core system. You did read and precisely follow the information provided in the notes about installation, didn’t you? Then you mention - “tried the line 6 updater (and heres where the main problem arises)”. To use the Updater you should disconnect the USB cable from your unit and reboot it into “Safe Mode”, then ensure that HX Edit is not running in the background, if it is shut it down. Then reconnect the USB and launch the Line 6 Updater Utility to reinstall the firmware. Full instructions for how to recover from a failed update are given here: Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, There are no Line staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums” This link is where you need to go to have any hope of it been seen by anyone from Line 6: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/index Before posting any new ideas, please do a search to see if it's already been listed. Multiple requests for the same thing will thin out the votes. Also, post your ideas one at a time. Many users don’t vote for combined suggestions. You should use this thread to let other users know what your suggestions are, with links to IdeaScale, so they can vote on it if they wish. https://line6.com/support/topic/14497-helix-ideascale-community-submissions/ Hope this helps/makes sense.

LOL, good grief - no, just many years of recording stuff and deciding on what works for me - each to their own. People usually find their own techniques with these sort of things, and as with many things you could take 2 microphones of the same brand and model and each could have it’s own quirks and idiosyncrasies. The same sort of thing applies in this situation. In respect of the freebie IR, the French guy pointed out that there was little or no information on each IR. Whereas the new Cabs from Line 6 are some strange cocktail of thousands of individual IR captures compiled by some sort of voodoo. Needless to say I was intrigued by this situation and had a play around with that “Marshall 1960A T75 SM57 + 1 off axis 3_01" from the French site. That’s why I suggested playing around with the Line 6 cab to see if you could get close. When I was messing with it (only for a short while) it struck me that the new cabs Hi and Lo cuts were left wide open, I would imaging the means you can further tailor to tone to suit. If you find them fizzy roll off the top end until you’re happy. You could also try adding a Tilt EQ block into the equation which would allow you to shape the sound even more. I am quite busy at the moment but if I get chance I will take a look at your supplied presets. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I’ve only just spotted your post re: Boss RC 30 . Someone asked about this a while back - go to this thread and you will find a preset file you can try with your looper. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: IIRC, that preset was one I used with my Helix floor unit. I cannot remember if I stripped it down to basics for the guy to try out on his Helix. I’m not in the studio now until tomorrow, so if you do download it and it cannot load into your Stomp XL, let me know by replying to this post and I will rebuild a preset that will work for your set up.

Interesting first post - to a thread that has been quietly sleeping for 6 years! You say that "some sounds after the update look different. Is it true?" Mmm... well as sound isn't really a visual thing they certainly cannot look different. They may sound different though, because the Core engine in the Helix family firmware has been improved once more. Maybe the force is not strong with this obionekenoby. Hope this helps/makes sense.

This sort of stuff could take forever to decipher - it all depends on how the person who created them decided to name them. Your interpretation is more than likely correct, but as for the “01 inthe 3_01 part” - dunno could be anything. You need to figure it out by trial and error as you already seem to have most of the clues there. As the guy who collated those IRs states:- “I add two zip files containing a total of nearly 950 other pulses. There is a little bit of everything, unfortunately the designers of these impulses have not always named their files very clearly, or provided explanatory documents. Some names are evocative, for others... we'll have to guess...” Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I have just opened up the studio and fired up the Helix. Waddayano - right there in the re-shot updated cabs is a 4x12 1960A T75 Cab block, which includes the SM57 mic option. As the Off Axis refers to angling the mic at 45 degrees, start from there by moving out from the cone to the edge and also vary the distance, because it all makes a difference. See the link about Cab Mic technique in this thread.

Yay! Success! Welcome to v3.50 firmware. if only everyone else followed the directions, and read the Release Notes.

As noted in the Update Notes: In a “failed state” HX Edit will not connect to your device. Go here and follow the instructions Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, From the “Updating Helix/HX” page, see points 1 and 5 regarding updates for Rack. Just to be safe: Shut down all Line 6 software or any programs that use audio, like DAWs, iTunes, Spotify, video games, etc. If your computer's sleep timer is set relatively short, disable it, as the update can fail if your computer goes to sleep Make sure external devices are not currently sending MIDI to Helix/HX. If you're unsure, unplug Helix/HX's MIDI IN port If you have Helix Rack and Helix Control connected, turn off Helix Control Launch the newest version of HX Edit you installed in STEP ONE above. If you're not signed in, click "Check for Updates" in the lower right corner and sign in. If you're already signed in, it appears as "Update available!" Click Update Now. A window appears, asking you to back up your Helix/HX hardware. Click OK, optionally rename the backup and/or choose a different destination folder, and then click Create Backup. Continue following the prompts. Once updated, the window reads "Update Complete" and your Helix/HX hardware begins rebuilding its presets; wait for this to complete and click Back to HX Edit. If you have Helix Control connected to Helix Rack, turn on Helix Control. If Helix Rack reads "Helix Control must be updated to work properly," press Knob 6 (OK). (Some updates affect Helix Control, others don't.) find full details here: You could try a complete reinstall of the latest firmware using the Line 6 Updater Utility. Follow the information given here, but remember the previous notes regarding the Controller. Oh, and finally - first rule of Helix club NEVER, EVER, UPDATE TO A NEW FIRMWARE BEFORE AN IMPORTANT GIG, RECORDING SESSION, AUDITION OR ANY SITUATION IN WHICH YOU GETTING PAID MAY BE INVOLVED, ETC. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: In the event that none of this works - contact Customer Support.
