  1. Hi, Interesting first post - to a thread that has been quietly sleeping for almost a year. BTW. I would think that “PierM” (who is a regular contributor with over 1200 posts) is fully aware of the output configuration. Possible why he suggested using the USB because that is what it is designed for. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  2. Oh, yeah - re the telephone call. See the big red banner at the top of the page which states: Line 6 Phones Unavailable. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  3. “BTW, the boy is now taking a break from 'assisting' me... ” Ah, the enthusiasm of youth! Although, it’s surprising how many times people have posted to these forums regarding problems with updating, or installing firmware, and the best solution would be for them to find a 14 year old kid to do it for them! Oh, well. If the “Reset procedure, suggested by “Honest Opinion” in the post above, doesn’t do the trick them follow these instructions. From the Line 6 Firmware Update Release Notes v3.0 IMPORTANT! In the unlikely event that your update fails, please follow the steps below: Unplug the USB cable from both the back of your Helix and the computer. Turn your Helix/HX device off and on. Reconnect the USB cable to your Helix/HX device and the computer. Download, install, and launch the latest version of Line 6 Updater. In a failure state, the device will not connect to HX Edit. Line 6 Updater for macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9831 Line 6 Updater for Windows: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9832 Select your device and try updating to the latest firmware again. If the device does not show up in Line 6 Updater after these steps, try a different USB cable and/or USB port. If it still doesn't show up, try a different computer. link:
  4. Hi, Yeah right - The road to hell is paved with good intentions.. From the Firmware download page. How do I update to 3.15? If you're running HX Edit 3.01 or higher (released on Feb 2, 2021), just connect Helix/HX to your computer via USB and launch HX Edit. The software will walk you through the entire procedure, including backing everything up to your computer and updating both HX Edit and your Helix/HX firmware. If you're running an older version of HX Edit, you must update it before updating your Helix/HX hardware When you have a screwed up install- do it again, and follow the instructions to the letter. Very rarely does a messed up install turn your Helix into a huge paperweight. Hope this helps makes sense.
  5. Hi, Rule number one of Helix club - never update before an important gig. Furthermore read, study and inwardly digest all the Release Notes for the updates. Your big issue here is the fact that v.2.8 firmware involved a major change to the Helix Core which made it appear as if the update had failed - looks like you have discovered that now. Read this. https://helixhelp.com/release-notes/helix/2.80.0 I have said many, many times in these threads that I intended to stop giving the instructions on how to recover from a failed update, so this time I suggest that you simply go to the main section of this Helix forum and type “Boot Error: Entered update mode” into the Search panel in the top right of the menu. From the results you will probably find one of the many previous lists of instructions posted by me, and many other users, who repeatedly supplied the solution on prior occasions. From the v3.15 firmware download page:- My Helix/HX is at version X.XX. Can I go straight to 3.15? Yes, but note that if you're starting from 2.80 or lower, the update will appear to happen twice. This is normal. Anything else I should know? Yes. We STRONGLY recommend performing a factory reset AFTER UPDATING your Helix/HX firmware to 3.15 and THEN RESTORING YOUR BACKUP.(Backing up is part of the update process). Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK! Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp Hope this helps/makes sense.
  6. Hi, I've only just spotted your post. Anyhow, as for your question - there are no rules about this sort of stuff and the best thing to do is try things both ways and then see which you prefer. What works for one person may not be ideal for you. You decide. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  7. Hi, Apologies for the delay - I have only just spotted your post. As this is your first post, I'm not sure if you realised, but you are shouting into an empty room - the OP "frstrat" (Floyd) made that post way back in Feb 2021 and unless you quote him directly, it's more than likely he won't respond. In fact he hasn't posted anything else since then. You haven't mentioned directly if you are running the exact same version of the Mac OS, but as I would imagine you are due to your question? It's a big help to give as much info as possible when asking for assistance in these forums Anyhow - I am running Catalina v.10.15.7 with no issues of logging in to my Line 6 Account with either HX Edit or Helix Native, not that it helps to know that in your situation. I would refer you to my earlier comment about Firewalls etc. as the Mac security systems can be a little over enthusiastic at times. Also, HX Edit can be a bit temperamental about having other software open and running in the background while it is being used. Try to connect HX Edit with all other none essential apps closed. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  8. When the first Walrus Mako D1 hit the streets, I seriously considered buying one, simply for the slow attack function. I ultimately didn’t buy one as I thought it was a rather expensive investment for that one particular trick. I’m even more glad I didn’t buy one, because it had only been available for a short time when the new improved version with added features appeared. Anyhow, the Helix has some interesting delay models - Euclidean for example, along with all the usual suspects, Multi Tap, Ping Pong, Reverse, Tape, Analogue. The best thing to do is experiment with them to see what you can achieve. Try running one into another, or having 2 delays on different paths. You haven’t said if you have tried the simplest way of testing the delay unit by sticking your guitar into it and then taking the mono out into your amp. That will show if it works correctly.
  9. Hi, I’ve only just spotted your post - anyhow, with the Helix family of products theoretically you can assign anything to anything. You can make thing as complex, or as simple as you wish. Best place to start is the Helix Owner’s Manual https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f041b611d61cac763b/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev F - English .pdf See page 45 “Snapshots”. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. Hi, In order to save me from doing lots of typing (again) - check these threads for clues. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  11. Hi, I’m a little late to this, and I use the Helix Floor not the HX Effects box, but usually anything patched into a FX Loop should just work. One thing I noticed in your screenshot of the preset is that the Send/Return block has the Return set to Snapshot 2 (the white brackets around the 0.0dB show that). Are you sure that you have this preset set properly? Why FX 2 rather than FX Loop 1? (Not that it should make difference!) I don’t understand this at all, because every outboard stereo effect that I have ever patched into a FX Loop just works as expected. Possibly a little more insight into your set up may help.
  12. LOL - I’m a studio rat and therefore unaffected by transport logistics. Still alive and kicking!
  13. Hi, It sure does predate the pedals - AFAIK, it is based on the original Roland Dimension D rack mounted studio unit: “One of the first true stereo chorus units. Relatively subtle in it's nature, it became an industry standard for double-track effects.“ Quote from: https://helixhelp.com/models?categoryId=4&subCategoryId=6 Hope this helps/makes sense.
  14. Hi, I bought an Ibanez DM1000 way back in 1985 and I still have it in the rack, but rarely turn it on nowadays. The DM1000 operated at a max bandwidth of 8kHz and the input was converted to 8bit. When I feel the need for that type of effect I generally use the Helix Vintage Digital to do the job of matching the sample rate and bit depth. Try it. I would also advise the Craig Anderton book as noted by “rd2rk” above. Original spec here: http://www.hoshinogakki.co.jp/pdf/ibanez/catalog/1982DM1000.pdf Hope this helps/makes sense. Oh, yeah, regarding your other posts about the POD models - the Helix is a different beast so the only way to access your favourites from there is to stick your POD into the FX Loop of your Helix. That’s what I did to be able to use the Dimension effect on my HD500 before it was ported into the legacy fx.
  15. Hi, That is the whole point of this thread - people who bought Helix Native, but no longer use it. See posts 8 and 9 at the beginning of this thread. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  16. From the manual, directly below the big picture of the rear panel - very similar to the photo above! 16. EXP PEDAL 2/EXT AMP An additional expression pedal can be connected to Helix LT and assigned to adjust a wide variety of parameters. See “Quick Controller Assign” Alternatively, this jack can be connected to your traditional guitar amp to switch its channels or turn its reverb on and off. Use a TRS cable for dual operation (1=tip, 2=ring). To set this jack’s function, see “Global Settings > Preferences”
  17. The HX Edit is designed to work across all the range of Helix product, even though it was around way before the HX Stomp XL, there really isn’t a “disconnect” between interfaces. Click on the “Help” menu and select “HX Edit Application Pilot's Guide“ - page 10 explains Renaming, Reordering, Copying and Pasting Presets. Hope this help/makes sense.
  18. Not much to go on here, although when weird stuff starts to happen - perform a Factory Reset. You haven’t said if you press the “Home” button does it change to “Signal Flow View”? If you hit FS6 MODE does it switch to Preset, Stomp or both BANK UP & DOWN simultaneously to go to Snapshot view? If it has screwed up - Factory Reset - power up the LT while holding down FS7 & 8. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  19. Hi, It would help to know what HX product you are wanting to “Send” from? For example: Helix floor and Rack units each have 4 x 1/4” mono Send jack sockets Helix LT use 2 x 1/4” mono Send jack sockets HX Stomp and Stomp XL both use a 1/4” stereo Send jack socket. HX Effects uses 2 x 1/4” mono Send jack sockets Then on your mixer input - are the inputs 1/4” Mono, XLRs, or does it have a dedicated stereo 1/4” insert? Anyhow, if you connecting 1/4” Mono pairs to Mono (TR to TR)in then regular guitar cables will suffice - you know what they look like. If it is Stereo out to 2x Mono in you need a TRS to 2x Mono TR cable. Likewise, if the Sends are going to XLR you will need a similar cable - Stereo TRS to 2x XLR, or 2x Mono TR to 2x XLR. Some examples: https://www.amazon.com/DISINO-Microphone-Unbalanced-Interconnect-Dynamic/dp/B083P6S976/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2C8JFPJTH4BJ8&keywords=TR+1%2F4+Jack+to+XLR&qid=1663713768&sprefix=tr+1%2F4+jack+to+xlr%2Caps%2C227&sr=8-2 https://www.amazon.com/DISINO-Y-Splitter-Unbalanced-Quarter-Adapter/dp/B083QKRNVC/ref=sr_1_18?crid=1KS49KKFG3HR0&keywords=TRS+1%2F4+Jack+to+2X+XLR&qid=1663713854&sprefix=trs+1%2F4+jack+to+2x+xlr%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-18 https://www.amazon.com/Tisino-Stereo-Y-Splitter-Return-Insert/dp/B07K59P692/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3OP43XXXORVQB&keywords=TRS%2B1%2F4%2BJack%2Bto%2B2X%2B1%2F4%2BTR&qid=1663713999&sprefix=trs%2B1%2F4%2Bjack%2Bto%2B2x%2B1%2F4%2Bt%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-1-spons&th=1 Finally after having gone through all this, I am confused by your comment: “I split my signal using a IR to the send out to my mixer but want to go stereo.” An example of your preset would help here, because it is not very clear what you want to direct out of the Sends. The audio signal that leaves you regular outputs is stereo (unless you have a final block which collapses the signal to mono?). If you want to route the output of the parallel path which contains the IR from the Send socket, it will be mono (there is no stereo IR) unless it later passes through a stereo FX block. Hope this helps/makes sense - because now, I’m confused.
  20. So did I - following your example of substituting the FX Loops with WhoWatt preamps I went through it again. The results are the same no matter if the split point is a Y Centred or A/B Even Split into the pair of WhoWatts then the Merge Mixer Centre Pan A & B Polarity Normal the audio goes through the PingPong Delay and 2db boost of the stereo Simple EQ block then out through the Left and Right XLRs to my Tannoys. No Problem, unless you hit the B Polarity Footswitch and the result is silence, because just as in a Null Test, the 180 degree inverted phase signal cancels out the other path. This is exactly what I would expect to happen with this setting. Now if you change only the Merge Mixer A/B pan to 100 left and right, you only get a partial cancelation of the audio because the panning means the inversion of the signal is not 180 degrees, which makes the resulting signal sound somewhat weedy and thin. Now, because you had used the PAIR of WhoWatt preamps, I thought that this not going to get us any further if both Preamp blocks are on the default settings. The audio cancels out because the sound waves are identical, therefore I messed around with the Bass, Mid and Treble on each one and then checked. Sure enough, more signal passes through when inverted because the waves are different and they only cancel the same frequencies. It suddenly struck me that the OP "b418me" says he is using a pair of Vox MV50 AC, that are essentially micro versions of the AC30, therefore swap the WhoWatts for a pair of A30 Fawn Nrm blocks. I guess this would put me as close as possible to the rig brother "b418me" is using. He says is running identical amps into slightly different cabs, (that probably doesn't have much bearing on this), but I seriously doubt both amps are dialled in the same, so the phase cancellation will not be as great. Correct, using the Fawns dialled in differently gets a lot more of the signal through without as much obvious phase cancellation even when the panning is centred, and it is far more noticeable when hard panned. Conclusion is that "b418me" is suffering from phase cancellation, but it is controllable to a point. Maybe he is more sensitive to it than we are. Hi, As you have already noted, in the Owner's Manual it states: "Typically, this should be set to "Normal". Well, as far as this digital stuff goes there are no real rules, just use what sounds good to you. Having said that - the fact the there are some obvious frequency anomalies happening when the phase of the signal is inverted, I'm with "rd2rk" on this one and would suggest that fixing it with using "Normal' and using the EQ block to iron any issues out. Hope this helps makes sense.
  21. It would have helped if “your friend” had said what piece of HX gear this happened with, what computer system he is using, and the version of firmware he was updating from and to. The Factory Reset and Safe Boot procedures are different for each product. Find the list of Reset/SafeBoot options here: https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options I have said many, many times in these threads that I intended to stop giving the instructions on how to recover from a failed update, so this time I suggest that you simply go to the main section of this Helix forum and type “Boot Error: Entered update mode” into the Search panel in the top right of the menu. From the results you will probably find one of the many previous lists of instructions posted by me, and many other users, who repeatedly supplied the solution on prior occasions. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  22. I don’t use IEM, never got on with them at all, but I do get the point you make. Although, I wouldn’t expect a gate to help with the sound of a dropped mic, a live cable being jacked in, or feedback (I have read of an instance this accidentally happening in a studio and causing complete mayhem) - surely that sort of sudden signal burst passing the threshold would open a gate allowing the potentially damaging sound through. From what I have read about IEM, most receiver packs contain a built-in limiter, but a hard limiter on the mixer should be a big help. Other than that I wonder what sort of protection is available to stop people becoming like Brian Johnson of AC/DC.
  23. Hi, O.K. I downloaded the your preset and as I don't have the HXFX, I loaded into my Helix floor. Also I don't have two external amps and cabs available, but I have lots of other things around that I can stick into an FX Loop. This I what I discovered. I patched in a Mooer Ocean Machine to the Helix L/R FX Send and Returns on the Helix. I turned off both delays and the reverb on the Ocean Machine, just using in as a routing device. In your preset with only FX Loop 1 active, everything is fine and the following stereo Ping Pong delay performs as anticipated, - no problem there. When the second FX loop is engaged, again there is no apparent issue other than the sense of a level increase when adding the second path (psychoacoustics probably) - the ping pong works as normal. What does happen is - when you switch Loop 2 on Path B to "Inverted Polarity", and the Mix Block A & B pan are centred you get total silence. Just like a "Null" test, the same frequencies from both Path A and B cancel each other out. Now, when the Mix Block pan A & B are set to 100 Left and 100 Right and the Polarity is set to Normal then the Ping Pong and 2db boost work, but switch the Polarity to Inverted, you can still hear the guitar, but the Ping Pong delay and the boost on the EQ block vanish completely - just as if they had been switched off on the footswitches, except they haven't. Also, changing the Split Y to Split A/B made no difference. I could, for example, switch on a Reverse Reverb on the Ocean Machine and have that playback through the Left and Right Returns into the Helix Ping Pong and Boost normally, but once again, engaging the "Invert" seemed to make the verb sound thin and the built in Delay and EQ boost were no longer audible. Weirdest thing that I've come across for a long time. As you said "So still, no clue what is going on". Same here. I had quick glance through "The Big Book of Helix Tips and Tricks 1.1" by sometime forum contributor @craiganderton , my guess he would be the man who could best explain what is going on. His book contains lots of references to the "Inverted" polarity setting for special effects such as Blooming Reverb. That's as far as I got with this thing - maybe the fine Mr Anderton will chime in with an idea.
