  1. The Spider App is a huge source of contention for users. It works, or doesn't work, connects, or won't connect. Devices of all kinds tested and confirmed. You, like many others are saying the same thing. In most cases, it seems the larger the user content in presets, the more the app has problems. There are some users on guitar forums (UG, TGP) that looked into it. They "rooted" tablets. "My Tones" files are hidden in the app. There's no user access to these files. The other problem is the file that is generated with a preset writes to one basic file that gets updated with each save or new preset. According to these guys there are no individual preset or preset file extensions for each. Most tested say the bigger that file gets, the worst time they have with preset management, app crashing. Consensus from programmers is that they can fix this with individual preset files vs having one massive xml file. That requires modification of the app. Everything about the app so far, even though there are many posts here, reviews on dealer sites regarding the faulty app, just has not been given much priority. Suggestion Line 6 reps give is to vote for Win Mac editors on Ideascale: Yes, that requires users to create another acct for Ideascale. Use the link below. Don't start a new topic. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Spider-V-Computer-Interface/859001-23508 There are a few videos online at Youtube showing the editor app usage examples.
  2. Crazy to have to buy different tablets etc, and have many hit or miss even after all that. Vote for the PC editors here: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Spider-V-Computer-Interface/859001-23508
  3. There are 1,242 requests for PC and Mac editors in the AMPLIFI area of Ideascale, and more in the comments sections of posts. Highest computer app request topics have well over 200 votes, but there are more than 20 posts of this same request and dozens more in the comments. There are also high numbers of comments and votes requesting the API so users can build LIne6 a third party app. I can appreciate a limited staff may not look at these in full. It didn't take me 30 min to parse the comments and get numbers. My point being MAKE IT EASIER and PIN THE TOPIC. Once again, the issue is the lack of pinned topics. That is why you have so many topics of the same requests. This is why your staff may be assuming there is limited desire for that specific request. Users in the Spider V area have mentioned the same thing. Users don't always take the time to search. Exactly! because the search brings up more than one result. Now add a level of aggravation to the mix. Now the USER gets to the point of why should I even bother. Take a look at the ones that DID bother. My question was how many voted requests does it take? 200, 500, 1000, 10000? Out of all the post topics, computer editors were the highest requested and given no priority at all. What I see as a user are many unanswered requests. Those specific users were not really asking for an expanded platform. They were requesting a more friendly user interface. That is for a product that is based around Mobile and Bluetooth. Spider V is not designed around anything mobile yet REQUIRES a mobile device and app for the editor. As seen in posts here and in Ideascale, the editor is plagued with connection problems. Just look here at your own forums how people feel about the app as is. Probably a good 50% report problems. Most of us are smart enough to know Line6 support cannot duplicate every network, tablet, cable, router, or OTG adapter being used. This is primarily why the design of Spider Remote with a non BlueTooth device begs for a computer editing GUI. There are Youtube Clips of the products, and in nearly every one, there is a comment of "There are no/this needs Pc and Mac editors." With this said, my assumption would be that users will not be seeing any request for computer editors fulfilled anytime soon. Helix is the main priority. Thank You
  4. Not sure about how product mgr's get their information. Friends of mine said there are well over 1000 requests for computer editors in the Amplifi section. Problem is, the voting is 200 in one post, 85 in another post, 122 in another post, many many other similar posts with as many votes. etc. I verified this earlier. Ideascale site has no real organization or pinned topic requests. Search can come back with a dozen or more. There are hundreds of requests for Mac apps, W8 apps, W10 apps, W7 apps, etc. Those all combined result in very big numbers over 1000. To date it still says "in review" on each of them. Seems there was no action taken. How many votes do they need to prioritize actions? It may help voters if Ideascale had some organization to it with pinned topics. Same has happened for the Spider V product user requests for computer editor. There are multiples of topics with the same requests. Votes for computer app like the one posted are only one of many just like it on Ideascale. What appears as 27 votes is not accurate, there are many more in other posts with the same request. If the Spider V requests go the way of Amplifi computer GUI requests, that means don't count on it reaching anyone's to do list unless some third party can get it done.
  5. Check your other post regarding pitch bend Same ans though: Select the Pitch modulation Type Select Pitch Bend for the effect press OK Set Position at 50% Set Heel to -1 (drop down 1 semitone; -2 for whole step drop etc) Set Toe to 0 Set mix to 100% At a good volume level you won't hear much of the strings tuning bleed of your guitar itself, at low volumes it can be distracting
  6. Use the Pitch Bend effect Pos 50 Heel -1 (for one semitone below, -2 for a whole step down, -3 for 1.5 steps down etc) Toe 0 Mix 100% You can use any preset or amp model type you want, but it works better on dist amps. Note that using Delay with the pitch effect may pulse at times at the tempo of delay. You are putting one fx type into another.
  7. I think many people discovered they can use VB or other emulators, but there were other problems doing so like mouse cursor issues inside VB, or limits to other emulators like AmiDOUS or ANDY. When I used those emulators they work, but run into the exact same issues of the app itself on top of emulator related problems. PC client would have been much smarter and reviews for the amp would be based on the amp and not so much the negatives on the app that in my experience is flakey at best, and not designed to do much with user preset storage (offline) or bank level creation in the app itself. So many users here and other forums, retailer reviews have said the app is a major drawback compared to other products from other mfg's. I have to agree with those reviewers. Since the release in late Sep, Oct, users have been very up front about the editor faults, lack of computer editors. Outside of that, customers now have many other mfg product options with the things they have requested here. I bought the Spider V for the modeling options, fx options, wireless integration. Those are the major pluses in the Spider V line. If it was based on the app, I'd have chose from other products that have app features I prefer.
  8. Try the whammy or other pitch effects. Take down 1 semitone
  9. Here's my experience with tablets- RCA galileo android - works until access of cloud, then it disconnects and errors out Samsung Galaxy tab- this one was better. Loads ok, but errored out when saving to "my tones" Lenovo 10" tab- seemed to work ok until searching cloud then locked up. Very annoying that 3 different mfg tablets are so much of a struggle with the app. Most time out errors seem cloud based. Unit was not designed with mobile features but uses a mobile app? Weird, but nevertheless probably a good reason the above tablets don't work well with the app.
  10. Funny that voting for a Win Mac editor is low when just about every forum, retailer review has posts NEEDS PC EDITORS I think people go wha??? now I have to register at another site, locate the topic, then vote? As if the frustration wasn't enough fussing with mobile apps. There was another poster that requested the API so he could develop a pc app. I didn't see any response. Looking at Ideascale and posts from Firehawk users for PC apps since its release, I doubt we'll see one for Spider V. I have friends that work at GC, and they have exchanged many of these units for other products because the customer was sold an item they thought had pc apps for mac and windows. Must not be enough of a concern. Some guys at other forums are rooting android tablets and creating workarounds. After seeing the data files for presets are one big file instead of individual ones they kind of retreated from the idea saying they'd have to recode most of the app and there are too many implications in doing so. Others have said they'll still see how creative they can get. Speaking of the Code editor above, Marshall users flamed Marshall for that and sales declined. If that same thing affects Line 6 it may be a motivational factor. Firehawk was one product, Spider V is 4 product levels, plus all those accessories they could sell in FBV and G10T's. I think Spider V is a great product line, but lack of computer editors isn't helping it and has become a "what else is out there that does have pc editors" option for customers.
  11. As an owner of Axe FX, AmpliFire, and Kemper, I can tell you that almost every user adds PEQ in the amp model of those products too. Not just post amp either. They put PEQ filter blocks before the modeling, after, between cabs etc. For most products with PEQ block, It's what is used as a component post amp to clarify the model, cab, and to balance tonality of different guitars. Even as expensive as those products are I still had to tweak them. That is the modeling environment. Spider V is a step in that modeling approach for combos. Spider V isn't like previous generations at all. This is basically their modeling plus fr amplification all in one. Previous Spider generations were much more basic. I too was on the fence with my Spider V, but I've learned to use the PEQ to the amp's benefit thanks to to discovering what others have done. Not all products are for every ear. You don't know until you try. Axe FX I say has the more refined sound. Helix is really good too. Atomic Amplifire has really improved. Kemper has the best modeling sound imo. Factory sounds are ok, but you will have to tweak any of the units here. The modelers will take you deep into tweak and cabinet impulse rabbit holes as they say. If you go Kemper buy the third party profiles. They sounded best to me. Best to you!
  12. Sign in to Ideascale site at Line 6. Search computer editor for Spider V. then Vote This should never have been remote only because it is not a BT unit like the units the app came from. Far too many users are describing nothing but connectivity problems with the Spider App. Many complaining they have to buy a Tablet. Many users taking the Spider V back and buying something else. It's too bad really that the lack of computer editors is such a major drawback. This has nothing to do with age demographics. IMO, along with so many others under 30. The App as is has no way to archive your files other than proprietary cloud based. Nothing is user accessible, no means of backing up banks. Not a very good way to assemble preset banks. People that use modelers are used to those things in the editors.
  13. The Spider V is a different system of amplification. PEQ helps resolve the differences in the models, guitars used etc. It's not required, but it is there. Most recommend it is used not just on Spider V but many other modelers that have full range amplification. Spider V has a full range system, Spider IV had a guitar speaker IIRC so the models were tweaked to work with that speaker. Reviews were mixed on those as well. I did get the factory sounds on those banks. There is not a lot of hf coming out of the horn. Those are not like compression drivers that hiss when on so it's harder to tell when they are active. I'd have to pull the cab back off, unhook the main speaker to really verify. Not sure what to tell you. I think what was recorded on clips were via USB, not a mic'd up amp. Might be why it sounds different. IDK I had a Kemper, and there is tweaking required when amplifying the system. I have an AX8 and I really tweak that box.
  14. This is a response I received from YT user that has the cool Spider V 240 demos. I have tried these suggestions and I like the amp much better now. Here is what he sent me: " Thanks!! Hope this helps you ! What I do with ANY modeler I buy is start from scratch. I know many don't like to do this, but for me, this is how I learn to use the products and it stays with me. Most of the things you learn about modeling units is that how you adjust the basic amp model apply fairly consistent, even with different mfg's of modeler products. They can all sound bland until you get into the nuts and bolts of the amp and PEQ's. Guitars change the tonality too. If you have active pickups or stronger pickups, heavier tonewoods, those all can affect the final result. I gig with 4 guitars so I refined the presets I use to sound good with those guitars. Some have more output so I dial other presets up to even things out. Most of this is done by adjustments in the PEQ block or "EQ" block which I enable in everything I use. Every modeler I use, I always start with the basic model. I turn all effects off. These steps are fairly easy: 1. Set the amp model how you normally would set an amp you use IRL. Many amp models included will get gain applied differently. Classic amps often required the player to crank the gains, and all the amps eq controls. Presence control helped with hf harmonics. Use that if you want. These amps include Plexi, JTM, Bassman, JCM800's, some versions of Mark amps, Fender, and more. For example, if you want classic Plexi, just dime everything in the model. That is how the amp works better IRL, so do the same on the model. For old AcDc, Thin Lizzy, BOC, Aerosmith, etc, that's how they got that loud OD tone. You can push it with drive pedals if you want, but go to the next option to really achieve results. Great model for classic rock which gives a sweet mild overdrive with a cleaner low end for power. 2. Try different cabinet models. Most of these would be good with Green or Cream back cabs, but Vintage 30 also works if you need a brighter but darker tone with the classic style amp. I like V30 with the Sm57 @45. That's my starting point for higher gain, though I do use some variants on other presets just for subtle differences. 3. USE the PEQ to shape the tone. Boxy sound comes from Lo Mids/Mid Bass out of whack. You can fine tune that tone with the PEQ. Start with the low end. Adjust them just enough to shape the sound, then apply the gain of the EQ to each freq as needed. If you boost over 6db you will find the amp gets much louder than factory presets. There is a ton of headroom in the PEQ, but I suggest using it no more than a 3-6 db boost. The models will sound better with this EQ applied. I learned that with the Fractal and other units that sounded meh until you dialed in PEQ. PEQ is where you find the sweet spot. Don't forget, you can always go back to the Amp model and make cuts as well. If you don't know how to use PEQ it is best to test each gain and freq slider so you can hear the changes. There is no Visual Graphic and the Q is not adjustable, so my guess is it is fairly wide, so the boost or cut you make will apply broadly. That said, this block is crucial to developing the final amp sound of your preset and when used properly can make your amp model go from meh to ohhh yeah!! On other more high gain amp models, they have a different gain/vol structure. You don't have to dime them like you do classic amps. These include Mesa Rectif, Engl, Deiz, JCM900, DSL's, and so on. I find having a balance of gain and presence with a fairly high volume level on the model works best. PEQ will work closely with the model used, so what you tweak for Fender, should work with those models, Marshall, same thing. Apply the EQ of the amp model with the same PEQ and shape from the amp eq first, then fine tune the PEQ. Using different cabinets will change things, but those differences are desirable imo. IOW, just a cab model and mic position change can get a thicker, darker, or brighter tone. Experiment with what works. The Spider V is fairly linear in it's power. You can adjust your presets at just less than stage levels and they will be good at higher gig levels. Just don't adjust them with Headphones or really low levels. They will not translate as well. That is not the amp though, that is just how human hearing is. Like any amp you tweak, give your ears a rest after a while. If you tweak over long periods, the next day things may sound very different. Factory presets for any modeler are hit or miss. That is to be expected. I use them as reference more than anything else. 4. Once you get the basic amp tone you like, now you can apply other things like drives, compressors, and other effects. Key is, don't over do it. Compressors can actually tame game but warm it up if used that way, or they can be a nice boost. You decide. Some of my presets used are boosts, and some act almost as a limiter but they tighten the gain. These usually have a lower threshold on high gain amp models. 5. Drives can really impact the gain, but on high gain amps, don't use the gain too high because more distortion will thin the tone badly and it won't cut a mix. Some drives have EQ. Be cautious here because the EQ on the Drive block can certainly impact the amp model. These are really good for Clean EQ boosts. Set for minimal gain, but boost the eq controls to provide the clean boost for lead cutting. Use sparingly for best results. 6. Other FX, mods delays rev. These I use as needed. Most of the time I have fx applied the mix levels are rather low unless I am going for something that requires a heavy or more wetness to the effect. Just know a wetter effect can change the preset levels too. In a Stereo 240, it will broaden the tones quite a bit. In my experiences with so many modelers, the only way to see what is under the hood is to look, compare and tweak. Starting from scratch as you would when you build a rig is the best way to learn the rig from top to bottom. I know many think the mfg's should have these models all worked out for us, but the fact is everyone's ears are different. There is no way or even a halfway point or mfg's to structure a preset that everyone will like. When you have an amp modeler, you are essentially walking into a room with all those tools. Now you get to put them together. When I bought the Spider V I went in with basics and applied those ideas to the unit. As I was at the store over a busy Holiday weekend of shopping, people that tried the amp just by factory models were stunned at the sounds I was getting after a few PEQ tweaks. I had never heard the word "dude" so much than that afternoon. I picked up the Spider V 240 that afternoon and ordered the G10T and FBV3. Out of the other products that were there including Boss, Blackstar, and Fender, I chose this one since it had everything needed for gigging. The other combos didn't handle low tuning guitars either. Difference being Spider V 240 and others in the series are modeling amps. Other choices were variables of a single preamp type. Works for a simple one tone couple gain option players, but not at all as diverse as I needed. The wireless, FBV3 option sealed it for me too. Hope that helps to clarify what I do. I have some presets up on L6 site, there is no order to them. Just look for ones that start with MB> "
  15. Try this!! This is a response I got from the Youtube guy that has Spider V 240 demos that sound killer!! Here's what he said: " Thanks!! Hope this helps you ! 16. It's been "In review" for a while, so yeah keep hoping. My bet is it's going to take some people outside of Line 6 to develop any third party app. All it takes is looking at product reviews from so many online stores. So many saying it needs a computer editor even in the most positive of reviews.
  17. FBV3 fx are color coded, and you can reassign to positions 2,3, and 4. It's not like the Helix with scribble strips, so you just have to know the fx you are using, though the display will indicate what fx are being disabled or enabled.. The color rings detail things for a more immediate visual feedback of what you have assigned, activated or not. What I did was keep certain fx sounds in banks. Mostly my preset bank will go Clean Crunch Lead Special. These will have standard fx assigned to them for ex, Comp, Dist, Mod, Del, Rev. Typical orders. The 4th preset of every bank "Special" gets the special features such as certain non standard modulations. So if I use Synth, Octavers, Pitch, Whammy, Multi delays or other special Fx in a song, those are assigned to position 4 of the bank. For some songs I have FX assigned in the Special 4th preset of the bank, so those go Comp, Special FX, Special FX, Special FX, Rev. IOW, FX2,3, and 4 can have anything else I want to use, or sometimes multiples of an effect type which you can do.. for example, Octaver and Synth1 and Synth 2. All those fx are color coded in the FBV3 switch led rings. Dimmed when not enabled, bright when active. I like consistency in my workflow. FBV3 provides a better solution for having visual feedback to what is happening as you play. Would have been nice to have scribble strips like Helix, but the FBV would cost more than the amp itself which in some cases, it already does. I'd like to see the Spider V and FBV3 get the "snapshot feature" but that's going well above the basic use for this type amp, and its costs. The other shortboards are going to require consistent assigns like you mentioned since they are mapped that way, but they should work.
  18. FWIW, even with the FBV3, looper action is one button for all looper functions, so it's not the most functional of looper designs within that pedal. I would have preferred when looper is active, the bottom switches became rec, start , stop , play. It's really hard to use live given it's upper switch placement position and single button operation.
  19. I think I have overwritten every preset up to bank 11. Not that all presets were bad, I just did so for my own organization of presets I use at gigs and with different guitars. I have to find a way to preview the original preset banks. Horn doesn't always come on mine either. It's not like a compression horn on a PA speaker. Mine does come on some to fill out highs when I use my piezo bridge in one of my guitars. I think the 12" speakers are most of the full range, but high end of them is limited enough to get the drum machine or some lo fi playback of mp3's. These speakers remind me of sound I get with Beta 12LTA that had a hf wizzer cone in the center. Those were good to about 10khz. Lo fi at best, but much better than music through a Vintage 30.
  20. Any local stores with a G10T you can bring the amp in and confirm which unit has a problem? Somebody once told me, if the gear fails within the warranty period be thankful. So true. Many modelers I have purchased through the years, and some have crapped out during warranty period. The replacements still work fine.
  21. Oli Agreed on the pc editors for sure! They want us to pursue changes through Ideascale part of their site. You can go there to vote for the computer editor. I think plenty of people have been wanting the editor for Mac and Windows, but it's not showing that at Ideascale as much as it should. I'm thinking users posting here are not wanting to subscribe to another section to post requests. I don't blame them for not wanting to (more crap to post, search for topics), but that's how it works. I tried a few times to post direct links and it doesn't work. When dialing in the amps, set them how you would the real deal. That's what the guy on the videos said. Not everyone can tweak for hours, but if you handle the amp settings and then clean it up with post EQ it takes on a different life. They also said use the post eq on and tweak slightly for different guitars. Depending on body makeup, pickups, electronics of the guitar, it can sound different, just like amps would, so just do the same.
  22. Non computer editors is a huge area of pain for users. Go to Ideascale, search the Spider V computer editor topic and VOTE for it. Not sure what you may have going on with the tap tempo. Disconnect the FBV and see if it works on the amp.
  23. There's usually a switch or sometimes a sensor device that disables the outputs when using headphones. To send to PA, might be easier to just mic the amp.
  24. That's been the problem since the rollout. Users have bought these units thinking they do support these things. All they have on the sites are "has connectivity for Mac Win, iOS, and Android" so there is an assumption editors are available for all, and recording streams are for all OS's. Then users discover their amp does not record to iOS, their editor is not supported in Mac or Win. So you get a bunch of people disappointed and returning the product.
  25. Pretty sure recording option is Mac Win. Might be a mis-statement just like the editor was mis-stated as being mobile only. Many retailer videos said usb for Mac Win Android and iOS editors and applications. They probably never tried it to verify.
