    Helix Vs Native

....and as long as you have a good quality audio interface for your DAW. I've used an Apogee Duet and an Apollo Twin and could hear no difference. Great stuff.
  2. Fair enough, I understand and thanks @codamedia. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  3. I always use the save button on the editor, seems to work for the most part. I don't like editing presets on the hardware .... I'm nowhere near as fast and have to think more!
  4. Yes, having the same problem with states occasionally not saving, especially footswitches designated as Controllers. Haven't tried Snapshots. Did you fill out a support ticket to report the problem.... that's the best way to get software bugs reported into the system.
  5. ....also, if you created (for example) an EQ block you really like, its fairly quick easy to copy and paste it between multiple presets when using the editor software. Maybe in the future they'll add the ability to paste to multiple presets?
  6. more example Line 6 marketing verbiage: "With the release of Helix Native, Line 6 is bringing all their top-tier HX modeling power and amazingly intuitive workflow to your DAW of choice." HXN works amazingly well for its intended use. Select a preset for a guitar track and rock out. If you need more time-based control within a track, the snapshot and parameter control delivers in spades. And it keeps getting upgraded along with the Helix so its not just another "release it and forget it" plug-in. If you intend to use HXN as some sort of switch-controllable software for performance (creating a low-cost Helix), you may face hurdles. It might work, it might not. I would suggest you experiment with the demo before buying to avoid disappointment.
  7. Nope. You would need to create an EQ block, and then copy/paste it to your presets.
  8. @iamnexus77, I haven't seen it explained anywhere; its vague. If we can't check serial numbers, then at least a repeatable, definitive test or preset would be very helpful (preferably without having to use specific external send/return pedals). Especially for someone who is trying one out to buy, or someone who suspects they are having odd noise issues. Why such a mystery?
  9. HXN was created and is marketed as a DAW recording plugin — not a host-based, MIDI-controlled effects "pedal." I understand those wanting to push it in that direction, but not sure if it will evolve to support that application. We shall see...
  10. Metalheads will love it, but I'll be waiting for vintage. I like the concept of mini-packs; affordable and focused on a particular music style/sound.
  11. https://shop.line6.com/termsofsale.html according to the above terms, no on the helix native discount, but I think you can transfer the registration/warranty if its still under warranty and you get the receipt from the seller.
  12. ...love that you're keeping studio users in mind. Looking forward to these.
  13. As @codamedia sez, it can be done. Off the top of my head I can think of a couple... You could put a Split the path and put a Merge Mixer at the end so you could hard pan your effects path to the Right or Left output. (You could tweak each output with EQ or Vol if needed). Simpler, you could use a single path, and insert a Stereo Pan block at the end, then hard pan to Left or Right output. Then you could set up Snapshots or a Footswitch to select the output.
  14. In America, all the rules are being made by reality TV stars.
  15. Recalls due to faulty components are not uncommon in the electronics world. And @cruisinon2, this is different than some random bad part, which I agree is bound to happen with almost any product. Instead it seems to have been a bad batch with a known fail rate. At a minimum, I feel customers should be provided with a test (specific preset) that would definitively expose the problem. Don't get me wrong. The Helix is a great product line, including the HXFX. But the occasional "rare" bad online review of the HX FX seem to be for the bad units. An example: "I called Line 6 and they informed me that they had some reports of added noise/high end and asked if I'd send them some sound samples. I just didn't want to do R&D stuff for Line 6 at this time so I returned the unit." I'd want to prevent those units from getting into or back into the marketplace...better for business in the long run.
  16. Yes. Line 6 has already reported the faulty units are "extremely rare" so it shouldn't be a big deal to get 'em fixed and out of the marketplace, like any typical manufacturer's recall.
  17. Line 6 has reported that "certain specific combinations of HX Effects units populated with out-of-spec parts and amplifiers and/or hookup configurations can manifest notable white noise and/or other unsavory audio artifacts." That's pretty vague (if you hear noise then you have the problem). I have a new unit and it sounds OK so far, but I haven't used it in every possible future configuration. I don't want to discover I have a bad unit sometime next year. If the problem is due to a bad batch of components, then shouldn't Line 6 know which Serial Numbers were effected?
  18. Just get a good raw vocal sound from the Helix, with minimal "Blocks." Then do all of your vocal processing within Reaper. There are plenty of online videos on getting a good vocal sound. Start with EQ, compression. You can add distortion if needed for your edgy stuff. But start with as clean and pure of a vocal sound as you can get for your raw track. Regarding levels .... better to have your raw vocal tracks at a lower level (< -6 dB or so) rather than pushing them too hot. You can adjust them via your compressor levels and track levels. If they are still too low for your mic, use the mic pre as brueski sez, to pump up the level a bit.
  19. I just voted for this one: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/HX-Effects-6-snapshots/922560-23508#idea-tab-comments
  20. Awesome .... good to hear. MainStage is not intuitive, I've used it before. But it is powerful if you can get it to do what you want. Once you get all that troubleshooting and guesswork behind you, then its a lot easier to create new stuff. I go through that anytime I have new gear/software and I'm working with MIDI; its almost never straightforward. When I get it figured out, I usually keep some simple step-by-step notes in case I need to create, for example, a new song list months later.
  21. It would be nice to be able to 1) invoke a preset, and then 2) have 6 footswitches available to select one of 6 snapshots within the preset. Put something on IdeaScale (if not there already) and I'll vote for it. Additionally, you can invoke 1-6 of the stomp mode footswitches via MIDI, but only 1-4 snapshots. I'd love to be able to invoke 1-6 snapshots.
  22. Can you set the tempo within a MainStage Concert using the MainStage tap tempo function, and then see if that tempo will be provided to Helix? Be sure to select Sync to Host within Helix Native.
  23. If you bought the original 2.30/2.50 Update Pack and then re-download, there are some updates to some of the presets.
  24. I must confess that my photo was fake news. That's not really our drummer, his pants are not really for sale, and there's not really a Helix in the bunch. Truth: the photo is from coverage of a 2009 world's record (147 stomp boxes). Here is the site with more photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7297852@N05/sets/72157621596146152/ From the associated blog: "Event organizer, Aljon Go mentions, 'It started out as a laugh. Now it’s become a reality. I just wanted to push the technology as far as it could go and see how insane it can get. This extraordinary pedalboard is far from practical, but every pedal is operational.'"
  25. I would like for Line 6 to provide some way to determine if a unit has the problem. There must be some simple configuration or preset a user can duplicate to make a definitive decision.
