  1. I knew it .... 100 tiny little stomp boxes and a bunch of wires and switches. Update: OK, here's the scoop .... no trickery, magic, or lead weights inside. Just great engineering, a sheetload of quality components, and 1/16" steel casing. That mofo be built like a tank. Wish my car was built like that.
  2. It makes me feel sad when you say those things to me.
  3. I just got the HX FX and was surprised at how heavy it is for its size. Its like a 5-pound brick! My Helix was heavy, but it's weight seemed proportional to the size + heavy duty pedal. Has anyone peaked inside an HXFX? Is there a lead weight in there? Or a gravity field generator?
  4. There're a lot of online videos and docs that explain how to control 3rd party (non-Apple) plug-ins within MainStage. Have you successfully controlled any third-party plug-ins, or is Helix the only one presenting problems?
  5. Helix converts all .WAV IRs to 16-bit, 48kHz mono, but you might as well start with the 48k files. Most importantly, make sure you're importing 3Sigma's .wav files and not the .kipr files. The .wav files should just work without issues. Have you successfully used IRs with your Helix before?
  6. Get one of these if you want to save money and just need a mute. But if you're using a Helix, of course you can set up a preset with a snapshot so the microphone path mutes at the tap of a Helix foot switch.
  7. Yes. Basic stuff. Make some popcorn and watch the movie.
  8. Not an Ableton user. But in most DAW's you can specify the MIDI channel for an individual track (the one you have HXN on). This article might help.
  9. Don't know how Pro Tools deals with mono vs stereo tracks, but in Logic you need to create a Stereo track, select the stereo HXN plugin, and then all just works in stereo (as long as you don't have a mono block in your HXN chain, as @triryche mentions in the other thread).

....same here, still remodeling and will be adding some more speakers (really big ones). And a much larger console (need lots more channels). I'll probably knock out the walls so I can fit in more stuff. Or maybe move into a bigger space. Whatever.
  11. If I upgrade my computer once every 4 years, and am allowed only 11 lifetime authorizations, I could only use HXN for 44 years. So, say, age 21 through 65. Since I bought HXN when I was a "mature" age, I should be OK. Unless medical science makes huge strides in anti-aging, which is a tradeoff I am willing to accept.

Do you study your scales and chords while laying on your back?
  13. Good to know, @fremen. BTW, your new 2.30/2.50 update pack is outstanding, and the collection I now start with when I'm looking for great tone. Great in the studio, too!
  14. I'm a solo performer, and SetListMaker is enough for me .... though Bandhelper would be great for a group where members need to share lyrics, etc. FYI, I edit my lyrics on a Mac, then use Dropbox to get them into SLM. No problems. The MIDI control for Helix and other devices is icing on the cake and slick as a whistle.

....why not just book Harvey for your next party: http://harveymandel.com/book-the-snake/
  16. I urge you to try the demo .... even if it did run with your current OSX and DAW, you won't know how it will run with your CPU, memory, audio interface, etc until you try it out.

...totally Lowell George in a box! Funny, I was just listening to Little Feat during dinner tonight. Lowell used to play his strat live through two Dynacomps in series (Red Squeeze in the Helix), and tweaked settings accordingly on each, usually one with high gain low compression, the other low gain high compression. Before him, Harvey "Snake" Mandel was a master of maxed compressor pedals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxHCISZZ5-w
  18. If he only needs the device for guitar effects (such as reverb, delay, etc) and not modeled amps (which necessary or useful for acoustic guitar anyway), the HX Effects would be a great choice. I'm assuming he already has his vocal input and processing covered by something else, assuming he also sings (if he also needed microphone inputs and processing, he would need a full-blown, expensive Helix). But since he is currently gigging with an inexpensive pedal to house PA, the HX Effects would be a huge improvement and I'm sure he would be thrilled.
  19. ....and these are for mobile use: iOS and Android.
  20. Agreed on Setlist Maker/Bandhelper. I perform solo, and am my own sound guy. So, I use setlistmaker to put all of my equipment (midi mixer, midi external effects) into a know state (even tempo-based fx) whenever I select a song. Icing on the cake is for it to display on an iPad any lyrics or tuning/capo/chord info I might need reminders for. Its also nice to have an app that the creator keeps updating, and provides direct support if needed.
  21. For those of you doing studio bass tracks, there is a new plug-in out from Kush that models the famous "red brick" Reddi tube preamp. The plug-in is getting me quickly to great studio bass sounds; recording the bass direct, then feeding the raw through Reddi, then eq and compress as needed. Bass sounds out of the Helix also sound better if you process the bass track through the Reddi plug, then into Helix or Helix Native for any additional processing, or splitting the DI through an amp/IR model. https://www.thehouseofkush.com/plugins/reddi It would be awesome if Line 6 could add a similar Reddi tube-pre model in the Helix for bass players!
  22. I focus on an Ampeg SVT sound, and muddy is a good way to describe the typical results. Others have said they like the bass modeling, but I'm not jazzed about it.The most usable tones I have obtained were from splitting the signal and blending: one path straight "DI" (no blocks in the path) and one path with the amp on distorteding gain, lots of mid and treble with low bass eq, 3Sigma Ampeg IR mixed down a bit, and then blend the DI and amp paths to taste. The modeled tone should sound unusable on its own — its there to blend in some bite and character.
  23. SetList Maker is powerful. It would even change your Helix settings or presets (via MIDI) when you select a song title or section.
  24. Snapshots or MIDI control will do what you want to do. Or maybe I still don't understand what you want to do.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
