Happy to have heard several King Crimson concerts in their early days (Crimson King through Larks Tongue tours). Bent my mind in several directions. I still go to see Fripp or Crimson when they are on tour and in my area. You should never pass up the chance....

Its most likely the way your system and DAW handles multi-threading.
-
Just watch this: Frippertronics Then set up a similar effects chain in Helix, with long delays. Here's another useful article.

Thanks for the tips. Loving the new presets. Best....

I saw The Dead Threads in Portland last year.

Ah .... good to know about Variax. I was hoping a future preset pack would somehow save mine! I find myself using it mainly for tunings/slide or rhythm on some models. Not using it as much these days. Curious, though .... what pickups did you use?
-
It could be a function of gain staging, as you say. Hard to say without the hardware pedal to compare. I don't use the Vermin block that often, and usually use Timmy or Minotaur if I want to shape some gain before feeding it into another distortion block. Have you tried a parametric EQ before the Rat to see what that effects? Sounds like you have useful input in the other thread (xcept "you don't know what you're doing"). Sorry I can't offer more...

What are you using for your audio interface to get your guitar signal into Helix Native?
-
...it was an act of God.

While we're asking ... at one time you mentioned putting out a Variax pack of Variax tones and presets. Any chance that might happen one day? Smaller market, perhaps, but it sure would be useful to us Variax owners.

Here's how good this new Helix 2.30-2.50 pack is: my IR slots were nearly filled up and I was going to have to put the pack's IRs in different slots than they were numbered for, and then reassign them in the presets. But instead, I decided to give Fremen's IRs priority, and reshuffled all the rest of my IRs around them. That's a pain in the arse because Line 6 locks preset IRs to a numbered slot instead of specific IRs (wtf!!), but last night I did it, and I'm glad I did. So there.

Yes, it must be a bad cable or connector problem.

It should sound nearly identical to the hardware. As you suspect, you've got to eliminate any digital distortion, because it will be exacerbated when it hits any distortion or amp blocks. 1) make sure you're using a quality audio interface that has good hi-z inputs (for guitar). Or first try recording an dry guitar track through Helix hardware USB for testing purposes. That will give you an idea of the levels you should be trying to get. 2) when using an audio interface, set its levels inputs carefully, making sure your peak playing volumes are "in the green" 3) set Helix Native input levels to -18 to -12 dB for your peak playing volumes

Ah, I see. Some of the editors out there are at least helpful in grouping and parsing the hlx files so they're easier to read so you can figure things out via trial and error. It's time consuming and tedious at best, so it would be nice if someone would make a Helix-specific editor/parser, or at least provide documentation as you mention.

This collection of presets is making me play guitar more and come up with song ideas. And my skin has cleared up.

I wouldn't say "way better", I'd say different .... glenn's stuff is excellent, they have their own applications, and we should be glad to have both of these guys designing and offering high-quality presets.

Fremen knocked it out of the park with this release. I use Helix Native for studio work and songwriting, and these presets are stunning and inspirational, especially in stereo. The preset "Triple Clean" is almost worth the price of admission alone. These are not quick-and-easy presets; they're meticulous. Some are extremely complex, and the attention to detail regarding tone, effects setting, and amp/pickup interaction are top-notch. There's a huge variety of stuff here, useful for studio and for live performance. Rhythm, dual amp, clean, lead, meat-and-potatoes. Special effects, too; for example, "The Wall drone" simulates the synth tone from "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 1" and if you study the preset you can customize it for different tones and pitches — and then play it like a synth using snapshots for note pitch changes. There are also useful morphing presets that make great use of an expression pedal. Great use of snapshots. Great deployment of the new amps. Just all-around great. (My only complaint is that I had to reshuffle a bunch of my IRs and remap presets to match IR numbers, but that's not a fault of this collection — its a fault of the rigid and inflexible Helix IR slot system.) Highly recommended! Sets a new standard for preset purchases.

Variax 500 acoustic model tone
soundog replied to thecameralens's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I play solo gigs using an acoustic guitar (Yairi Alvarez with B-Band pickup) and a Variax acoustic. I use the Variax for slide guitar stuff and special/open tunings, or for songs where I need more of an electric sound with effects. I never use the Variax over the Yairi for an normally-tuned acoustic guitar song, and I never use it over an acoustic in the studio. It's good, but it just doesn't have the richness and sparkle of the real thing. However, its really versatile for a lot of material and I'm glad I own one. Faves are the Parlor, 000, D-28, and J-45. -

Thanks for sharing .... deep and interesting article! -
Pretty much everyone has agreed the OP is a troll .... check out his many threads. Thankfully, in his last thread he said he is selling his Helix and won't be back. We hope...

Anyone using HD500x as midi pedal with Helix Native on MainStage?
soundog replied to jesuscares's topic in Helix Native
How exactly would pipeline audio products help jesuscares with his question, or are you just doing some ridiculous free advertising? -
I guess I haven't had a problem with it either, because I don't even know what it is. What is "fizz." How will I know when I hear "fizz". Can you measure "fizz" with a frequency analyzer or EQ plug-in? What if I get some of it on me? I'm really worried about it because everyone seems to be afraid of it.
