  1. With Helix Native, results can vary with the quality of the audio interface and how well it handles hi-z signals. Scarlett Solo should do a fine job. If you have your levels set properly on the interface, then its a matter of setting the input gain level in the Helix Native plug-in for peak levels no higher than -12dB. If you're trying to match to Helix hardware, you can get the plug-in levels (and tones) to sound identical to naked ears.
  2. Looks excellent ... I'll buy a copy this week.
  3. Haven't found a list of presets yet. Mostly leads on the video; is there a good number of clean and crunch also?
  4. [insert smile emoji here] "This will be my last post on this forum"
  5. Very cool. Does your original box do MIDI via USB as well as the 5-pin DIN?
  6. Use caution here, because 3SA does use double-tracked guitar on a lot of their online demos. Listen with headphones and its pretty obvious, but they are only trying to represent what you can get in a studio situation.

  8. "The hundreds of us need to grow up and expect to pay to learn how use a solution on what otherwise is being ushered as the next best thing to sliced bread." Or you could just sell it and get a Spider V amp. Find your own joy. (BTW, sliced bread is not all that its cracked up to be.)
  9. The OP has left the room, after leaving his thread bearing the stinky tags "Awful OD/Dist" and "Bad Sound".
  10. I really don't like the battery system on my Variax. The batteries are expensive and you have to maintain them properly. Ideally, you should store Li ion batteries at around 60 degrees and at a 40% charge level when they aren't being used regularly. But who's gonna do that? I ended up biting the bullet and buying a Variax A/B cabled power kit and life is better now. Yeah, it's $99. Yeah, it uses a wall wart. Yeah, you have to use a stereo guitar cable. But its a lot better than worrying about your battery charge and whether you have juice when you need it. And you can use XLR for a cleaner signal in noisy environments. And it makes using Workbench a lot easier, too.
  11. Yeah, it feels like bass is ignored what's you get past the essentials ... I wish they'd give it more attention because there's a lot of potential there.
  12. You may have better luck on the MainStage forum at logicprohelp.com. You'll need to explain that HXN doesn't support direct MIDI control, but it can be controlled via controller assignments. Not sure how you'd do patch changes, though .... although you could likely do snapshots.
  13. I bought the 3 Sigma Ampeg SVT IRs last year and they're the only ones I use for bass Helix tones....
  14. Not sure what's up, but that's got to be frustrating. Did you open a ticket? I usually hear back within one day on support stuff. You could try de-authorizing and then authorizing. https://line6.com/account/devices/ Line 6 also makes this mention: "Helix Native requires an internet connection to initially authorize the license both for the demo and full versions. Once the license has been authorized, you no longer need an internet connection to use the software. But, because of how the authorization works, you do need an NIC (Network Interface Controller) enabled. Do not disable your network card (wireless or LAN) when running Helix Native. If you want run without an internet connection, just unplug your LAN cable or disconnect from your WiFi network."

  16. ....glad you enjoyed the graphics, but now my inspiration is gone! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. Ah, I get it, and its cool that thats working out for you....
  18. @parenpentep-- thanks so much for sharing this info. I'm constantly messing with some bass patches to use for studio recording, and have yet to settle on something. Lots of trial and error, lots of variables. This sort of experimentation can be very fruitful but takes some work. When I have some spare time I'll experiment more with your findings.... ps .. which line 6 cabinet have you find best for meat and potatoes bass tones? do you regularly use some favorite third-party IRs for bass?
  19. I've never fully understood DIs, especially "when are they are really necessary?" Yeah, I understand the whole impedance-matching thing and using quality transformers. But these days so many mixers and audio interfaces include quality Hi-Z inputs. Still ... lots of top artists swear by them, especially the Radials. But is that mainly because they're out and about and have to patch into all sorts of different stuff? I wish I had a box of them to try with my guitars and bass to see if there is some magic (or only snake oil) for my setup. But its great they're solving problems for some of you guys.
  20. Even though I've learned to customize useful tones on the Helix, I've also tried a few preset packs mentioned frequently in the hardware Helix forum, such as some by 3 Sigma Audio, Fremen, and Glenn Deleune. My current fave, though, is a lesser known pack by Michel Britt (who developed a lot of Kemper stuff, but later started working with a Helix). He offers a great pack of well-rounded and useful IRs (30 for $25): https://mbritt.com/product/mblended-ir-pack-1/ But even better, you can buy his Helix presets (32 of 'em for $30) and he throws in his whole pack of IRs: https://mbritt.com/product/m-britt-helix-preset-pack-1/ That's like buying teflon pans and getting a free set of steak knives! These are meat & potatoes tones without a lot of fancy effects (and I think they were even designed before Helix had Snapshots). But they're great for rock, country, and blues rhythm or lead parts (not metal tho) ... and they sit really well in the mix without a lot of futzing. I mention them here in case you're in an unending quest for tones....
  21. ...makes no diff using Safari on a 13" MacBook Pro or 27" iMac. Its like a festering boil.
  22. Cool. We need tips for each DAW because they do Midi assignments/mapping differently. Good coverage of Ableton from @Tomasz. I can provide Logic Pro X instructions, if anyone asks for them.
  23. Spikey, what is that head in your avatar. .... some kind of a root vegetable demon or something? Its been bothering me. Losing sleep.
