Is HxNative getting a bug fix like Firmware 2.52?
soundog replied to Lachdanan0121's topic in Helix Native
Interesting. I would guess Line 6 would save up the hardware code fixes and fold them into the next Helix Native update, whenever that is. -
Ideas like this should be suggested on IdeaScale. Then they get voted up for consideration: https://line6.ideascale.com

Yes, the six Allure Pack IRs are free when signing up for a free Helix account. I downloaded them and they work fine with Helix Native here, so not sure what sort of problem you're having. Did you get the .wav IR files OK, and try dragging them into your IR slots?
-
Yeah, I have the same problem. Sometimes need to click on stuff to see if its active. It needs to be improved. FYI, I just filled out a support ticket and reported it, and told them others have mentioned it in this forum. Maybe we'll get some traction....

I hadn't heard of the Michael Britt patches, so gave them a listen and ended up buying them. It's a generous collection of 32 Helix presets, and they've become some of my new faves. Not a bummer in the bunch. Great tone, plus the collection provides really useful notes by Michael, as well as his full collection of custom IRs (14 of which are used by the presets). Perfect for rock, country, and blues stuff. The IRs alone are worth the price of admission.

I'm not a Reaper user, but that sub track is probably your automation lane for the Snapshot control. Check your Reaper docs or online forums/youtube vids for info on how to automate plug-in parameters in Reaper. Essentially, you would be selecting points in the timeline where the Snapshot Index number changes from one Snapshot number to another. Then when you play your song, HXN should respond to those changes at the right time. As you learn to automate HXN, it becomes powerful. You can, for example, increase the amp gain or distortion settings as the intensity of a song section increases, or automate a wah pedal position.
-
HXN doesn't directly support MIDI control yet (it is planned). But that doesn't mean you can't control snapshots, and you can do it via external MIDI controllers or DAW automation: Snapshot control via your DAW automation is fully supported by HXN, and works great (at least in Logic Pro X, which I’m using; it should work in any major DAW). Just follow the instructions on how to do this in the HXN manual. If you want to control Helix Native using external MIDI controllers in real-time, and if your DAW supports "controller assignments," you can usually simply assign controls to plug-in parameters. Logic Pro X, and Reaper, for example, can do this via a "Learn" function. Most major DAWs support controller assignments.

awesome!! takes awhile to learn which tools to use, there are so many. tons of great free tutorial on youtube. and the logicprohelp.com forum is the best for asking questions and getting answers from helpful users.

It seems like this burned a lot of Line 6 effort and expense, to fix something that wasn't broken. And as a result of trying to fix something that wasn't broken .... it broke! [insert non-existent emoji here] ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks @jonandtice for sharing this info. I wasn't sure how to best use the pre-amp EQ blocks, as I hadn't encountered them used like that before, but am now finding them quite useful. I've really been enjoying the Vintage collection, so now think I'll order the Boutique collection. I appreciate 3 Sigma's focus on usable amp/IR tones rather than trying to duplicate artist/song tones....
-
I go for presets focused on good amp tone (clean, crunch, lead) rather than those trying to duplicate artist/song sounds with lots of effects. 3 Sigma (after tweaking the EQs), Delaune, Fremen. All of them need tweaking, in my opinion, but they're good starting points and can save some time.

The bass sound at the very beginning of this video is actually a tuba.

There are lots of amazing loopers available now, including the Line 6 JM4. You'd lose no quality using an external looper via an In/Out on your Helix. I use a Boomerang III, which is a fantastic looper and the one I settled on. You'll need to do some searching, though, to find one that has all the features you need.

Good choice. If you need to upgrade your DAW sometime, Logic Pro X packs quite a punch feature-wise. It has really evolved since 9. And I hear ya regarding learning a new setup. I tried to migrate from Logic to Studio One last year because I liked the Presonus controller, and it was really frustrating because I was so efficient using Logic. I ended up going back to Logic after wasting a week going through Studio One tutorials and manuals. Not that Studio One was lacking, but was like moving to a foreign country.

Link is at the top of this thread, with video examples linked on each collection.

Compatibility with Logic 9 sounds pretty iffy. Logic Pro X 10.4.1 (latest) runs without issue on my Mac with Sierra, and I think all is OK now with High Sierra. If you're already comfortable with 9 and want a quality DAW, 10 is a quantum leap and worth the expense, IMHO.
-
Line 6 states that Helix Native is supported in Logic Pro X 10.2.3 or above. You can find that in this Q&A: If Logic 10 is too spendy and you just want to use Helix Native as a sidekick tool for your hardware, you could grab something low cost like Reaper. You can use Reaper as a longtime free trial if you don't mind waiting for the "nag" reminders. There are other free or low-cost options out there for Mac (GarageBand, Tracktion, etc). Have you tried it with GarageBand?

O ye of little faith. 3 Sigma responded to this very question (do these Helix collections use new IRs or just something repackaged?) in another thread: "3 Sigma here. Just wanted to chime in to clear up any confusion about the IR's. The IR's are new and exclusive to each pack and are not renamed versions of other cabs from the library. It takes me about 10 minutes to make new cabinets these days so not a huge time investment :) All upcoming packs will have their own IR's also. The only overlap there will be is we are releasing these and all future preset packs for basically every software and hardware amp sim and the IR's will be the same in those. Ie Hi Gain Essentials for Helix and Hi Gain Essentials for Guitar Rig will both ship with the same HG412 cab. Hope this helps!" I prefer to take them at their word rather than waste my time doing a "a regular MD5 file cheksum." Bottom line .... they sound great to me.

Yes, this (not showing who last posted in a topic) has been the main thing I miss from the old format ... the ability to check at a glance and see if there were some new comments since the last time I read a certain thread. Otherwise, its looking good. (But where are the Emoticons??) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

.... unless your recording area and cables are prone to picking up or creating hum or noise, in which case leaving the signal in the digital domain will give you a quieter signal. The USB method also allows a simple way record the Helix-effected track and a dry track at the same time (useful for revamping), as Dragon sez.

I ordered the Vintage pack when it came out to check it out. It has become one of my "go to" collections when recording because the presets have excellent, round tone. The IRs were custom made for the Helix amps used, and I could tell they were well designed. The presets themselves focus on useful tones rather than using lots of effects. The only negative I encountered were that many of the presets (especially the cleans) had one or two EQ blocks before the amp, which I assume were there to adjust for guitar tone. They were set much too bright for my guitar. I turned them off and bingo, there was the tone I expected.
-
Yes. You can use the Helix Studio Preamp block, run that into the IR block, and load an acoustic guitar IR into that. Then use the USB to go into your DAW. Here's a good article for some other stuff you can experiment with: https://jimamsden.wordpress.com/2016/01/01/creating-a-helix-acoustic-guitar-patch/ Those 3 Sigma acoustic guitar IRs work wonders with rounding out piezo pickup "quack." They make several models, so pick one closest to your guitar body/style/wood.

I purchased an encrypted proxy service from Siberian hackers to access the forum. All is good now.
