Yes, I find that input impedance can help dull sounding guitars have a bit more sheen but it doesn’t quite do enough for excessive low end. I just don’t like the way low frequencies make the amp distort.
-
Interesting. I was think about how some guitars are too bassy sounding and I typically don't like those guitars and they way amps, real or modeled, react to them. My thought was to do a low frequency cut prior to the signal hitting the front end of the amp block. For the most part I would steer clear of boosting any frequencies as that just adds noise.

Any body use an EQ block to precondition the guitar signal before it reaches a pedal or amp block? I've been meaning to do more experiments with this but just have not had the time and have just been too habitual about EQing the overall sound after the Cab sim. No reason you can't do pre and post EQs either and I often forget that.

Here are a couple of suggestions I made. Swap preamps and power amps within an amp or amp+cab block A Virtual Effects Loop in the amp and amp+cab block
-
And I’d bet that it would sound different. I do wonder about how real amps’ effects loops handle the change in impedance when you connect an effect in that loop. I remember putting a volume pedal in the effects loop of my tube amp years ago and hated the change in feel. I was trying to maintain the gain I’d set while being able to control the volume. I never got there. I’m hoping that I won’t have the same experience in the modeling world.

I think it’s possible but it may not be very easy to remember which looper is playing which loop. The built in looper’s memory is far too small for my needs. As for using an external looper with the Helix, I wish I could turn off the foldback on the looper as the Helix is already passing that audio through. I can hear phase cancellation when I play along with the looper. Bugs me.

Why are some people downvoting the Independent pre and power amp blocks idea submission? Why would anyone not want this?
-
Yup.

Me too!!! I like the tones I get overall, it’s the little things I want to be able to do to the signal that I’m missing. What are they? Well, you’ll have to look at the things I’ve posted on Ideascale.

I seem to remember that some time ago, Digital _Igloo had mentioned that during the development of some of Helix’s amp models, they had discussed the possibility of a “Fizzless†amp model... I really wish they’d created it. Maybe they could consider a Fizz Reduction Control for every amp model. I just thought of something; Has anyone tried putting the graphic EQ between the amp and the cab sim? I’m almost sure the effect would be different from putting it after the cab sim. Hmmm... gonna have to try it.

Mic model changes when changing cab models in Helix LT

Yeah, they’ve got to do something about this as it makes tweaking sounds that much more tedious. Mainly because the first thing I like to experiment with is the cabs. I can’t imagine how anyone could have thought that this behavior of the cab sim was a good idea. It’s insane. Or rather, it drives ME insane. -

Coles 4038 Ribbon mic. Does wonders for me.

Mic model changes when changing cab models in Helix LT

It seems to me that this is common practice within Line6 and Boss. Highly irritating! I realize that most people like the SM57 for guitar cabs... I do not. I pretty much stick to the Coles Ribbon mic for my overdrive sounds. -
One can only hope.

I’m with shanecgriffo on this one. While I’m also a bassist, I don’t ever use the Helix for bass and that last update was pretty focused on that instrument. The multiband comp is definitely interesting but not interesting enough to go through the update process. I just hope they’ve got some more interesting stuff other than more amp models in the next update. Otherwise, I’m staying put on 2.11. It’s stable and I’m happy with my sounds.
-
Not really. They prioritized getting the amp models right first. And rightly so, I say. They may add higher quality and additional effects later perhaps. I would guess that it all depends on how much DSP those effects demand.

Ridiculous and self-centered.

Yup. It helps us all when we can help others get their stuff done.

I just joined the Motifator forum for Yamaha MOXF8/6 Synth owners. Posted a question and foolishly expected a quick response like on here. Crickets.

Most guitar amps are mono devices with the exception of a few like the Roland JC-120. Thus, the modeled amps will also be mono. The only obviously stereo presets will be the ones with a stereo chorus or delay. I must echo what others have said here. Build your own presets. You'll be much happier.
