I've never been pleased by the first impression of any modeler, including the Helix. Nor did I expect any of them to do so. I was impressed by how easily the Helix allowed me to reshape the tonality of any preset and tailor it to my liking.
-
Maybe they should've just called the pitch change effect a detune effect and then limit the range of the pitch change.
-
Agreed. That would have been cool. Especially if the amperage was high enough to power several pedals.
-
Thanks, man!
-
I almost went for it. But chickened out. Don't really need them as my EON 610s are just fine.
-
Yeah, I know but they could have made it look a little different than Line6's and they could have called it something else. Maybe I'm being over protective.
-
Not sure any other manufacturer is using the words "Scribble Strips" on their modeler nor has any other provided them before Line 6 either.
-
I would but... it's just the Helix and an RC-20XL in one of the loops. Kinda meh.
-
Yup. No matter how much or how little money you throw at it. It always takes WORK. Why is it so hard for people to understand that no company, no matter how brilliant, can anticipate people's wildly varying tastes in guitar tone and that EVERYBODY hears things differently. Is that really such difficult and abstract concept to comprehend?

Ok, I found one. The response curve of the expression pedal. I actually find it almost unusable and annoying for volume swells. Ugh. Please vote this up. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/idea-v2/890716

Well, it sounds like one of the Roland GR series guitar synths might have been the better option for you. The Helix is an amp modeler with some rudimentary synth sounds that are monophonic and thus quite limited.

As a long time GT-5, 6 and 8 user, the ease of use and substantial bump in audio quality that the Helix brings compared to the GT-x is an absolute joy. I did not enjoy tweaking the GTs.

Well, chalk it up to the old "YMMV" axiom. I expected the Red and Deluxe Compressors to dull my tone and I suppose they do at the tiniest little bit. I've kinda gotten addicted to the LA2A and it definitely does not dull my tone.

Ok, so you're not satisfied with the Helix the way it is. That's fine. Sure it would be nice to have variable mic placement available. I even submitted it in Ideascale. Still, the reality is that for a lot of us, it's not a make or break issue. I rarely feel the need to tweak my Helix because I'm so happy with the way it sounds and there are lots of us who feel this way. If we are to look for serious problems in the Helix, it would be in the upgrade process, the tuner and IR management during an upgrade. Tonally, it's not making me bend down and adjust something other than output volume at the gig. It allows me to concentrate on coming up with melodic content for my solo instead of being sidetracked by some icky part of the tone.

Congratulations! She's a beauty alright. I'm sure that even with 20% off, it was still a pretty penny. I on the other hand had always had a fascination with Parkers but could never afford one. Years passed and I have since had many guitars, one is even a custom made one to my specs. It's easily the most beautiful guitar I own. Now, about eight months ago, I started thinking about Parkers again. I'd played one of the expensive Fly models and found the top horn to be uncomfortable against my body. It poked you a bit because of the sharp point at the top. A few months later, I found a Maxx Fly PDF85 at GC's website, in excellent condition... for $399.00... Of course, it's now mine. I've since replaced its pickups with Lace Alumitones and now, this cheap little Parker has become my absolute favorite guitar. It's light, comfortable, plays like a dream and the combination of the Alumitones, Piezo pickups and the super smooth tremolo system that just doesn't seem to ever go out of tune from use, is to me, a supremely amazing guitar.

@jpdennis. Except that I never had to get used to the Polytune Clip or the Snark SN-8. They just... work.
-
Really, what about the Compressors could be improved, in your opinion? I mean, I wouldn't mind if they included some others like the SlideRig, Barber TonePress or the Pigtronix one but I have no issues with the ones that we already have.

What may suck... for some but not crucial to me, is the lack of true polyphonic pitch shifting.

Why would I need to re-amp? I never re-amp. I'd hook the other Helix up to computer, load the patches I want, connect both units to my mixer and use an A/B switch to compare the two. Even if there was a difference I'd bet it's splitting hairs and not worth all the effort.
-
It doesn't matter if the Helix's processor is more powerful. If its modeling technology is more detailed than the Headrush, that will add to the latency. If the Headrush could be made to run the Helix's software and model amps the way the Helix does, I wonder how much slower its patch switching would be. I suspect that the Headrush is not modeling amp with the same level of detail that the Helix is.
-
I'd have to hear that for myself. But the only I'm going to be able to do that is to find someone who has a Helix running 2.21 who would be willing to lend it to me for a few days so I can load a patch or two in it and check it out - A/B it with my Helix running 2.11. On this 55 square mile island I live on, no one else owns a Helix. That's ok. As I said, I'm quite happy with what I've got.

Curious..Since the new Spider V has a FRFR speaker..
hideout replied to jordans0nly's topic in Helix
I had the early version. It was ok, just not very loud and deceptively heavy for its size. I never got used to its sound. -
I guess my thing is that I'm so happy with the way the Helix sounds at 2.11 that what 2.21 offers holds no real interest for me. At this point I'm counting my blessings. For once, the grass is definitely not greener on the other side. :D

As I said, I wasn't really asking as I realize that L6 is pretty much mum about such things. I was just voicing my hopes.
