Right. And to my recollection no PA speaker manufacturer has ever made that assertion. At least, not blatantly.
-
Hmmm... I don't recall ever seeing any PA speaker, powered or passive being marketed as "full-range" or " flat response". I've only ever seen hifi speaker manufacturers allude to such claims. Mainly it's been the hifi speaker reviewers who have dared to make such lofty assertions about the latest bookshelf speaker they've reviewed. It kind of surprised me when I first saw the term appear in one of the XT-Live forums... or was it the Gt Central forum?

One thing I thought of when it comes to the Line6 backpack is how wide does the opening open? I had first ordered the Novation backpack and didn't like that it was too tight and that sliding the Helix inside it was a constant fight with the knobs getting caught on the opening. As heavy as the Helix is, it was kind of a chore. Also, some here have had trouble with the main data wheel crapping out and I wonder if pulling the Helix in and out of that tight fitting bag would contribute to the problem.

@Digital_Igloo Oh... alright... I guess. 😂😂 As I once heard said on Sesame Street, "It was just an idea, I never said it was a good one." Well, ok I did say it was a good one but you're right, of course. Thanks for the clarity.

I agree. The effects need work. Would like to see an LFO and ADSR included as modulation control sources. Dedicated mono versions of stereo effects would be great too.this last item wouldn't be necessary if the stereo effects summed to mono properly. Alas, they don't. As far as overall guitar sound though, I'm happy as a clam.

I still have my Fender Mustang Floor and I keep it as a backup but also because I actually like the way it sounds - for what it is. No, it can't hold a candle to the Helix but I still like it. Now, to the point. I like the graphical representation of the amp in the Fender Fuse computer editor software. Yeah, it's always a Fender amp that you see, no matter which model you're currently using but there's something oddly comforting about seeing an amp's knobs on the screen. I do wish Line6 had gone this route on both the pedal and the editing software. Those sliders just feel alien to me. Yeah, some people have issues turning knobs with their mice but if Line6 made it so that hovering the cursor over a control knob and rolling the scroll wheel turns the knob, it wouldn't be an issue. My DAW of choice (MOTU Digital Performer) does this now. It sure would be nice to see a virtual amp faceplate instead to those nondescript sliders. Maybe someday...

Bwahaha! You're right of course.

With that in mind, I wish there was some way that IdeaScale could give feedback on the feasibility of an idea via percentage points. I realize that this might be asking a lot but it might cut down on the unreasonable requests... maybe. I also realize that for every idea that seems unfeasible, there might be one person in the dev team who might ask, "Hey, what if we...?"

Consider how much longer Fractal (AxFX) and Kemper have been around compared to the Helix and you might stop wondering.

I've said this here before. The last update didn't hold much interest for me. Even though I'm also a bassist, I've never used my Helix for bass. That and the nerve wracking process of updating makes me think twice before doing it. I'm very very happy with the sounds I get now and do not look forward to anymore tweaking. The update has to offer up some very intriguing new capabilities before I'm gonna do it. I am more than content with the current collection of amp models so if it's just going to be more of those, I'm staying put. The Helix's consistency is what allows me to just concentrate on playing. I think that sometimes an update tends to jeopardize that consistency.

I play with every parameter available to every amp model I use.or am simply trying. No stone goes unturned. But that doesn't mean I won't miss something somewhere.

I have a pair of Kent Armstrong P-90s in one of my guitars. The pickups are sidewinder humbuckers and I wired the neck pickup coils in parallel. It's a lot brighter and works much better with the bridge pickup - to me. I find most neck pickups far too bassy and muddy for my uses. I like them bright!

Funny, my headphones always get me in the ballpark. At the gig it just takes a small tweak here and there to get the tones where I want them to be. I use KRK KM-8400 Phones and JBL EON 10s for my PA.

Thank, man.

^^ This!! ^^ The request is frivolous.

Even when I first had the Boss GT-5, I realized that I would soon be embracing this new approach to getting guitar sounds. No, it did not sound as good as my Blues Deluxe but it's flexibility and adaptability shined a very bright light on an amp's limitations for me. All amps, tube or otherwise, have steadily disappointed me with their limitations, weight and cost. I still have a couple (neither are tube amps) because they are fun to play through and they're always there already set up and ready to go. In fact this brings me to the one disadvantage of modeling pedals. I gig with the Helix so at home it's always put away in its case. If I want to use it at home, I gotta hook it up to either my studio system or headphones. But I never do. I just plug into one of my amps.

Real Fender blackface amp vs Helix – way too many pots on Helix?
hideout replied to markpaterson's topic in Helix
Maybe it's because I've paid so little attention to the accuracy of the models. All I care about is that the guitar sounds the way I want it to sound. I guess because I have just always accepted the fact that it will never really sound like an amp, I've actually gone the other way. I actually don't want it to sound like a specific amp anymore. Fender-ish or Marshall-ish or somewhere in between has become my basis point. The fact that the Deluxe model has extra controls that don't exist in the real thing pleases me no end. All that means to me is more options for sculpting the sound. Besides, as phil_m said, the default settings on the Deluxe model is an attempt at the optimal sound of the real thing.- 11 replies

Real Fender blackface amp vs Helix – way too many pots on Helix?
hideout replied to markpaterson's topic in Helix
Unless you're in a studio about to record it, the front of the real amp's speaker does not have a mic plugged into a mic pre then running into a full range speaker. Can't see how anyone could possibly expect a modeler to sound just like the real thing. With a real amp, there's nothing but the air that conducts the sound between the amp's speaker and your ears. Why are people are so insistent on ignoring this inarguable part of reality?- 11 replies

Wow. My Fender Mustang Floor is way tougher than that and I only paid $200 for it. So glad the original Helix that I have is so heavy duty. That's shameful.

Hmmm... now where's that post about the guy's bassist saying nobody uses modelers live on stage? Show him this! The Doobie Brothers, fer crying out loud!

What they said.
