  1. I use a Samson Airline wireless guitar system with my Helix going on the third live gig now with it and I have had no problems
  2. I got the black screen once when I updated to the most recent update. Reset the the unit as explained in the update release and haven't had the problem since. And while I haven't been able to save Bundles I have been able to save set lists and retrieve them and all the work placed into them. Have you tried the factory reset?
  3. I had pretty much the same experience amsdenj did when I brought mine out with my 80s cover band. I needed a good clean strat sound, a crunchy rock guitar and acoustic. I use a JTV59 and I was able to dial in my sound needs very quickly by grabbing or using some of the factory sounds and modifying them slightly and by building up from scratch. I too had the black screen after the latest flash update, but factory resetted and then reloaded my custom set;ist. For my prog band which unfortunately doesn't gig much I was able to build all my presets from scratch by using my HD500X as a template. Again other than minor problems (primarily just getting used to the interface) I was able to recreate the patches from the HD500X extremely quickly (Much faster than when I did them on the HD500) and with the HELIX amp modeling and effects they sounded much nicer and freaked my prog band out at rehearsal. My keyboard player who also does our recordings was visibly salivating.
  4. Yeah I know that the XPS was designed for the older VAX and VAC models (which I Still Have) but I would not use it to power a JTV as Bogieman has discovered. I also have had great success in the past with the Morley AB switch (Primarily used with a Parker Nitefly) but now run everything through an HD500X and now a HELIX straight to the board
  5. The modeling in the Amplifi is very good but not at the level the Helix is modeling. Don't get me wrong I originally purchased the Amplifi to be a monitor onstage for my HD500X and as a Blu tooth speaker. I recently decided to give the Ampifi modeling a try and I was quite impressed. However when the Helix arrived and I plugged it into the aux in I was completely blown away. Its hard to explain but the Helix allows the "character" of the guitar to really come through and the modeled amp response is simply amazing. The Amplifi is a great system but it is a completely different animal than the Helix.
  6. Mine did the same thing, I hard rebooted it and lost the presets I had been working on. Seems there is an issue with the Helix PC software that it didn't save the bundle but did save the set list and I was able to get back my presets by importing the setlist I had previously saved. Then went out and gigged with it and it has been fine since.
  7. Yeah I think DarrelM5's tips are right on the money as it may be your VDI is bad. I ran my 89F with the VDI in to the Helix right off the bat and had no problems.
  8. DI thanks for the post, I hadn't realized how that option worked and your explanation cleared it up.
  9. I don't think it will cause damage but I do not think it will work the way you are thinking which seems to be transferring audio to the Amplifi. Remember Amplifi is meant as a guitar amplifier with the Modeling of the POD X3 series built in. If you plug in via the quarter inch input the signal will going through the modelr. The auxiliary in is for inputting sound that otherwise could be transmitted via blu tooth. This is what where you want to send the signal from the Helix. I use the exact same setup except that I have a JTV and an Amplifi 75
  10. Silverhead, Oh I absolutely agree. Usually the advanced user guides are produced by actual users after the fact as more people get to use the device much like the advanced user guides for POD and HD series. For example some of the settings for simple delay aren't really well documented as to what the controls laid out on the Helix actually control or the definition is rather vague. Which is understandable in the initial manual release which is more geared toward getting the user started and familiarized with how the piece works.
  11. I have been using it in a live situation and don't notice any appreciable lag and thats going between a pretty heavy hard sound and an acoustic emulation, both switching Variax patches also.
  12. Very happy with this product, as with everybody else the more I use it the more I like it, the only thing I would like to see changed is awaiting the advanced user's guide (which usually takes a little while to show up) with some deeper information on each effects settings. Other than that I am sure a more robust PC editor will also be on the way eventually.
  13. I agree and I had posted about this same topic in the past and talked about how the look and shape of the two guitars influenced the perception subconsciously of how they sounded.
  14. I have a 59 and 89F and they do sound slightly different in the modeling which I think is more due to the physical differences in the guitars. If you could do an A/B recording I would be interested to see if I could pick up a difference. I have two bands, one an 80s cover band and the other an original prog band. I first purchased a 59 then grabbed the 89F when it became available. Most of the others in my cover band talked about how the 89F sounded SO much better. This confused me for a bit as I didn't here much differnce at all between the two. So I A/B them on various models and replayed them for the band and asked them to identify which guitar sounded better. None of them could tell the difference between the two.
  15. Yeah the FRFR is the way to go for the JTV acoustics. There are some good acoustic setups in Custom tone so I would try some of them with the HD400.
  16. I ran into the same problem with trying to export Bundles. I would get an error stating that there was bad data in some of the presets. But it looked like it saved as it showed the bundle in the window that pops up next to the Helix icon in the start menu of Windows 7. However when I would try to load it it would say can't find file because it didn't exist. Had to factory reset the Helix after the last update and of course lost everything. However I had also exported the setlist where I was doing all of my work and THAT did work. For now I would export your setlists to back up your work.
  17. Thanks DI I appreciate the quick feedback.
  18. Variable patch change with vdi does not seem to work, i.e. changing patches on Helix has no effect on Variable patch. I set the patch I want but my JTV doesn't change. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. I saw some traffic about this being part of the update but could be wrong. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  19. Trying to get the unit ready for a live show so I have been transposing my HD500x patches over (incredibly easy for the most part and a great way to learn the unit), but I am looking for recommendations for using the JTV Acoustic with. Any of the pre amps or factory patches that anyone recommends? Also any EQ starting points would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance! .
  20. Just going through the factory set lists the Helix is incredibly responsive to playing style and different Variax models. I really look forward to them coming up with a Variax setlists (if they do) The templates are killer way to start! I haven't done much of my own setups yet but my fingers hurt just from running the factory setlists. The clean amps are excellent and the whole feel of this unit is Jaw dropping. Really looking forward to transposing my HD500X patches over to the Helix, I just don't know where to start! I have been running it via the headphone out into an amplify 75. Again incredibly responsive and very easy to navigate. The Mode button is one of the best things ever and I love the fact that you can either have a view of 8 patches at a time and then be able to use and switch up to 8 effects. The thing is also a tank! PS this is the first time I have walked away from it for 5 hours.
  21. Yeah was hoping to avoid that but it does make sense as I probably won't be able to find someplace to sell me a single wrench
  22. Hey lost the larger wrench shipped with the JTV 89f. I am assuming this is the truss rod wrench, or the birdge height adjustment for the Floyd Rose. Could someone tell me what the size of the truss rod adjustment wrench pretty please?
