  1. Definitely worst hair cut ever :o
  2. Yep, me too. I have played through a friends DT25 and that sounded awesome too, possibly slightly better than the Stagesource. It was pretty close though. If you have a Variax the Stagesource wins is in the acoustic department hands down. The JTV-HD500-Stagesource rig is by far the best and most versatile I have owned.
  3. I had a similar problem. I think it was the B and G strings which were both dull to the point that they almost sounded palm muted. I feared the worst but started by putting on a new set of strings. Problem solved! The strings I took off were only a couple of weeks old too. It might be worth giving it a go.
  4. Yeah, I know what you mean about the gear snobs. The one thing that seems to change their minds is when they hear the acoustic models. A have had a couple of guys come up to me at the break to ask about the guitar. I was talking to one of them and he told me he had a 1977 Les Paul Standard. His exact words to me?....."I wish my guitar could do that!". Not too shabby!!!
  5. I am in a covers band. Although not Prog Rock (sounds too much like hard work LOL) there are situations where I need to switch between acoustic and hard rock tones mid song as well as using multiple tunings. MyJTV59 allows us to play songs that just wouldn't be possible without carrying multiple axes around and I find all the models on the JTV more than usable live. It would be nice to see some updates (a nylon string model would be good) but to be honest I'm really happy with what I already have.
  6. I play through a Stagesource L3.....1400 watts of pain baby! Never get past half way on the master even at medium sized venues.
  7. It honestly never occured to me!! Is the response more linear than the volume pedal effect or does it make no difference?
  8. I have pasted below something that I have just stumbled across online. The suggestion has never occured to me but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Does anyone out there control volume this way? "Extra Volume Pedal Adding a volume pedal to your signal chain on the HD500 takes up one of the eight available FX blocks. But there is a way of getting a volume pedal for free and leaving the eight blocks clear for other effects. Highlight your amp model on the screen and double click Move to open the expression pedal setting screen. The parameter you want is “output†and assign it to EXP1 or EXP2. Set the parameter minimum to zero percent and the maximum to whatever volume you’d originally set for the loudest on that patch. Voila, you can now control the amp model volume via the expression pedal without having to add a volume pedal block to your signal chain. And remember, as the channel volume doesn’t affect the tone this really is purely a volume control."
  9. +1 to that. I hardly ever use EQ effects but posted on a different thread because I was struggling to get my higher gain patches to cut through the mix. Someone recommended the mid focus EQ so I tried it....instant success!
  10. I have always found the vocal preset set list pretty usable without too much tweaking (unlike the guitar presets lol)
  11. If I understand correctly the Line 6 boot up screen is stuck in a loop. If so power up the POD by plugging in the power cable whilst at the same time holding down the left arrow key which is below where the word 'enter' is printed. Good luck.
  12. Whole Lotta Love is the riff that got me into the guitar so it gets my vote. I also love some of the tones Matt Bellamy (Muse) gets. Mind you I bet his rig is substantially bigger than Jimmy Page's ever was!
  13. I had my JTV59 professionally set up after having the guitar for 12 months or so. The guitar tech put .10 gauge strings on by mistake, which I actually quite liked (.11s were previously fitted). He offered to swap them back to .11s but I told him I would give them a try. Before I had the set up all the strings rang out as they should but shortly after getting it back one of the strings (can't be 100% sure but I think it was the G) went very dull. Swapped the strings back to .11s and problem solved. I think .11s are fitted by Line 6 out of the factory so maybe that's the answer.
  14. +1 to that. I'm in a covers band too with the same rig and the versatility is amazing.
  15. The iOS example is a great one. Apple release a slightly tweaked product periodically free of charge with a few new features and bug fixes. Which electronics company has the most loyal following, people who nearly always buy their most up to date product as soon as it's released? Apple. Line 6 could take a leaf out of their book and really lock in some brand loyalty. I want to be really clear ion this; I am not Line 6 bashing by any means. I have bought into the whole 'dream rig' thing and think it's awesome. RealZap mentioned in an earlier post that 'you got what you paid for' and 'anything else is a bonus'. He's right, but sometimes a small bonus goes a long way to keeping the punters happy and surely that's what L6 ultimately want. I'll get off my soap box now!!
  16. Yeah, with a VDI cable it should work just fine. Choose the model you want in the patch within HD edit, hit save and you're done. If you want just the mag pups on the patch turn off the modelling on the JTV and hit save.
  17. Yes, there are plainly some ridiculous requests on IdeaScale, but going back to my original comment there are some 'easy fixes' too. I absolutely get what you are saying about 'you got what you paid for' but many people (myself being one of them) would be quite happy with the occasional extra feature like copy/ pasting effects blocks which are not only doable but easily so. IMHO of course, other opinions are welcome.....
  18. Mmmm, I know what you mean. I've just had a quick look at IdeaScale and a lot of the ideas with the most votes seem to be from POD HD users so it's disappointing we have seen no updates. Some of the top ideas seem like they would be pretty easy to implement too, like copy/paste settings between patches on HD edit. Come on Line 6, throw us a bone! I for one am very easily pleased, just give me one update and I'll be happy. Not sure about the rest of the guys in the HD forums though ;)
  19. I run 2 main drive patches in my band, both pretty basic. The first one uses a Park model with moderate drive which works really well. My problem is that in a live situation my other main patch which is a Park with Tube Drive gets lost in the mix. I think the problem probably lies in the mids but I'd be really interested if anyone has some tips and/or settings using some of the HD500 EQs to cut through. Also, if you use an EQ where in the chain do you put it? Thanks guys.....
  20. Had my JTV59 around 2 years and it's still going strong. Come to think of it though I don't use the knobs and switches that much because I run a VDI cable into the HD500 and control the Variax from there on most of my patches.
  21. Diplomatic? Mmmm, not sure I've ever been called that before ;) 1. You should be able to more or less nail the amps you listed 2. I would say drive good, fuzz iffy 3. There hasn't been a firmware update to add models for a long time now and I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you! In terms of L6 listening to user requests the wheels grind very slowly indeed. Thing is though, how many different amp models do you really need, especially given that with some tweaking you can usually get a good approximation of the tone you want?
  22. 1. Really difficult to say as most people don't have the full compliment of amps to directly compare to. What you can say is that by tweaking parameters you can get damned close to pretty much any tone you want. 2. Drive pedals are good, fuzz pedals not so much (IMO) 3. I would refer you back to my answer to point 1 e.g. I have a patch really close to the sound of a Jazz Chorus using the Fender Twin model. 4. If you overdo it there is fizz with ANY digital MFX unit. That said there is less inherent fizz with POD HD than anything I have ever used. Using a bit of EQ you can dial out fizz really effectively. The only other general point I would make is that the unit is extremely tweakable which is good and bad in equal measure. Good because you can get the tone you want but bad because you can tie yourself in knots if you're not careful.
  23. When I first got my JTV I was paranoid about losing charge mid way through a gig, not that I was having the same problems as you guys. To get around this I switched to a VDI cable so the HD500 powered the JTV. This had the added advantage of being able to change guitar model and tuning on the pod. I know you shouldn't have to go to those lengths but at least there are some benefits. ...Just a thought.
  24. I'd love to go stereo with my rig, I'm sure it would sound awesome but funds don't stretch to it at the moment. Smrybacki, why not pack the JTV and HD500 into the car and take them to your nearest Stagesource stockist.....call it a road trip!! Years ago I did a 350 mile round trip to look at an amp, can't remember what type, which a second hand gear shop had reserved for me. When I got there he'd sold it so sorted me out with a Marshall half stack instead for my trouble and matched the price- £200 (approx $350). Sometimes it's worth a bit of a drive. If you heard the dream rig I'm sure you would go for it.
