  1. That's one of the reasons I ended up eventually getting a DT25. The tone is pretty consistant except normal ramp up of bass etc... with volume changes,m like you do working with any amp. I like the real tubes too, just changes the tones in a way I like. Even with it, I have worked up a dozen patches that I have slowed adjusted over rehersals and shows to get me to tone I like. I don't mess with them EQ wise at home much because I know I will just mess them up and once they are in context and have to slowly retweak it again. Nothing wrong with FRFR, I did that before too, but you will just have to try to make adjustments on the fly to make it sound right until you get it fully dialed in. If you using for P&W in the same church over and over then you should be able to get a select set of patches worked to that PA over a bit of time. If you going from PA to PA at differnet places, I would carry my own FRFR or Amp and tell them just to mic it. Too many inconsistances from one PA to the next. Tried using mine in different PAs with patches I had worked up for FRFR before and it just didn't work. Working directly on the POD is not horrible, you just got to get used to it. It's not as quite but it's do-able.
  2. The difference will be in the PA and computer's speakers ability to accurate reproduce a flat sound. If you mean studio monitors (even cheaper ones) on you computer to a good PA. There will be some differences but it will likely not be huge ones. Just will need some adjustment. If you using actually computer speakers then the differences could be pretty big. The other thinks to watch for as well is the differences in volume. The PA, if you playing with a band will likely be much louder which will affect the amount of bass you hear. This is normal even on a normal amp once you ramp up volume. The other of course which is not really specific to the POD but just generally what sounds good stand alone doesn't always sound good in a full band mix. Sometimes people like to blame that on the POD but it's really just over all tone mixing ability and knowledge.
  3. You can set an effect to only one button. But what you can do is set mutliple effects options to the same pedal. So I'm pretty sure you can set the POD to turn on effect off and another on with the same pedal button. And then you press it again and it would turn Effect 1 on and Effect 2 back off.
  4. Yes Exp1 and Exp2 (changes when you hit the switch. Can be assigned to nearly anything and you can have more than one effect assigned to each one. So you could say have Channel Volume (or Volume Pedal) and a gain pedal Dist both assigned to Exp1 and when you move Exp1 it will affect both. The POD is very flexable in that manner. If you get a plug in a second Exp pedal it automaticly become Exp2 so then you don't have to switch. Only thing I didn't like about the second expression pedal is it doesn't have swtich so it's odd to use the second expression as the wah as you have to use a seperate button to turn it on/off.
  5. I like it behind the amp right before the Delay and Verb. I still get the delay and reverb trails when I drop it out. I tried assigning the channel volume but the channel volume doesn't seem to be as consistent from model to model on the taper of the volume and on some setup it will not drop out completely either. It's very low but not completely out. As for tone before the Amp to clean up the tone I just use the volume on the guitar.
  6. I play in local band, mostly covers with a few originals thrown in. I've often wondered "Why do people come out to shows?". I mean they could play the jukebox and hear most for what I play, in a more polished format as well. So why come out? This is even true of nationally successful acts. You can buy the CD a lot cheaper than concert tickets. I don't think as musicians we can base our own reasons for going to show either. We go to learn, observe, be inspired and to support other musicians. We are too close to the music to be objective about our reasons. The only conclusion I've ever drawn is that Humans are social creatures and like to be "a part of something" even in small way. To experience the band and music if you will. For us smaller acts we are much more approachable than big names. No back stage pass or security in the way. I've made friends or maybe acquaintances out of several of my fans. Maybe I only see them around town when I see other bands but I sit down and have drink with them and find out how they are. I love these people, they afford me the ability to get out and do one of the things I love, even if just as a weekend warrior.
  7. Contrast on the unit is adjustable but there isn't a lot otherwise you can do. Personally it's bright enough for most stages I've been on. In the day time outside getting glare across the screen was more of a problem but I don't play out side shows much.
  8. Hmm with the Helix not supporting change on the DT amp configuration section properly. Maybe this or something similar is going to be the replacement for the DT in the future?
  9. Yep. lol. Didn't think so, so I didn't try before.
  10. I like D'Addrio NYXL on my 89f. I don't know there is really a "best" string for it. Those work of me.
  11. Okay I think I found the answer to my own question. The DT25 is using a line level send on the effects loop. Explains the slight loss of high end on the loop, likely not related to the length of the cable as much as just level mismatch.
  12. I suspect it's not and normally most amps would not be. Just curious, my POD recently died and I decided for the time being not to replace it. I'm using about 25 ft of cable to and back from the effects loop to a Vox Time Machine pedal. The pedal is a buffered bypass but If I'm correct the amp would still see any capacitance on the 25ft going to the pedal. And I do notice a slight roll off of high end, not horrible mind you but just trying to make sure I understand the problem so I can adjust address it. If the amp was buffered out then I would expect to see no roll off of treble, of course the slight coloring could be the pedal itself too. Just curious if anyone knew.
  13. Just and update for anyone that reads the post later looking for answer. This unit is truly dead. We had a close lighting strike happen while I was using the unit. That is the likely cause of what killed it. I had used it afterward the strike but that seems the likely cause of the problem. Myself I'm keeping my DT25 (was unplugged at the time so it was saved) and going to back to pedals. The HD500x was good machine but I can't see replacing with another unit right now with Helix being the successor coming out soon.
  14. hmm I tried from a different machine and discovered the USB is sort of working. The machine sees the device but the driver shows a failure. Maybe the this problem really is hardware and not software. That would suck, think for me maybe time to head back analog. They break too but are easier to get fixed. Got a support ticket open and will follow up with a call tomorrow. thanks for trying anyway.
  15. Okay how? it doesn't not detect across the USB even when it's comes up that way? Can I reflash via midi? I have a USB to MIDI I got for my DT25 if it can be done that way.
  16. when I hold the left arrow down it will constantly reboot. If I hold the down arrow while booting it comes up and says "Update Flash". I think the button being stuck seems logical but I can't seem to un-stick it.
  17. My Pod HD500x is coming up in the system mode. the one where you set the pedal calibration. I tried a system reset doesn't respond to that just comes back in the same mode. Not recognized on USB for reflash that way. I do have MIDI to USB device for the DT amp, if we could reset this way. Figure this is a flash corruption but I don't know how to fix it?
  18. Sorry dude the HD500x doesn't work for pass thought for the non 2.0 and lower Firmware. The HD500 does. It will work with an control/use the older variax normally though. For Workbench you will have to obtain and USB interface for it.
  19. +1 Exactly on both point. A miked amp does not sound exactly like an amp in the room and it doesn't "feel" like an amp either even with the guitar turned up in the monitor. The mic changes the tone of the amp, how much depends on which mic. When you mic'ing a real cab on stage the audience actually hears something a bit different than you typically do because you hearing the cab speakers of a mix of cab speakers and monitors. Depending on the volume level as well a cab can rumble and cause vibration in the floor etc... That's the "feel" part of it, I don't mean a "feel" like how the notes dig in but an actual physical feeling. At low volumes then it's not much. I used straight to the PA for while back when I was using an X3 and just never liked it. The tones were good and I had a good dedicated sound man for the band so levels where rarely and issue. He would even keep up with the songs and adjust levels for solo etc.... But something still alluded me. So I when FRFR with a tube and it solved the issue mostly. When I shifted to the HD I went with a DT25 and have never been happier. I believe it's 2 things. One is using the L6 link the mic simulation is turned off, so It sounds more like a amp and with the DT it has the physical feel and the tube thump I like. My best advice is to run Alto on Stage along with the PA feed. It will still not be quite the same feel bit it will be a bit closer and this is what you Rehearse with. I have used a different setup on stage than rehearsal when I had to but I've never found that to be optimal situation. I always found it's much better to Rehearse with what you plan to do on stage and that includes equipment setup being pretty close.
  20. Is there a Mag to Model blend in the "HD" edit? Thought for sure I play with that bit before I decided to go back to FW 1.9. I know it won't in the FW 1.9.
  21. The thought was around taking key components and cover them in detailed manner. e.g. Going over average usages and many some specific tones. Something in the manner of the Guitar Effects Survival Guide. I purchased that video set and it's pretty good. It taught me some stuff for sure and stuff I was able to bring over to the POD. In ways it's similar to your youtube videos but just a bit more in depth. Anyway, I think you might be good at a similar type of instructional series.
  22. Similar problem on the D string on my 89F. Replaced the peizo and it got better but not completely gone. Only thing I found was to ditch the "HD" and go back to firmware 1.9.
  23. Peter you ever think about doing a instructional video, like more in-depth, for sale series on tone and setup? I think you quite good at it and I would certinaly buy it. I've only seen one before it and it's pretty good but all analog and bit dated.
  24. Bravo! on a well done series. I learned a good bit from following these. Particularly the using the Parameter EQ. This was something I kind of already knew but I really only did when recording, not sure why the idea never hit me to attempt to use it live. But I can say I adjusted these and it killed every single mention of volume level on the guitar from my band mates and I told them nothing of what I did. And I can hear and I do think it sounds better. This has also opened up the concept of fixing the JTV acoustics to be somewhat more usable to correct some of it's acoustic simulations shortfalls. And lastly to be a bit more simple with the rig really can do wonders, often you patches are pretty simple but sound good.
  25. You trying to do the 4 cable method with this? Personally with that combo I would just use the L6 link. One XLR cable and done. POD takes care of all amps switching for your that way and you have more choices. The 4 cable is typically used where you want the guitar amp pre-amp stage and just use the POD for effects only. On the L6 link the POD models become the preamp (the DT25 installed ones are supposed to be the same as selected ones in the POD). But if you really want the 4 cable method so use the POD as stand alone amp instead of integrated one. Guitar in -> POD HD500x POD HD500x Eff send -> DT 25 guitar in. DT25 Eff send -> POD HD500x Eff return POD HD500x 1/4 left out -> DT 25 return. You will have to the put effects loop in the POD on the patch somewhere. It will represent the amp so put ur effects before/after the effects loop as seems best to you. Typically turn off the POD amps as the DT will now run them solely without using the POD as the pre-amp stage, just effects.
