For original Variax guitar and JTV pre 2.0, no it will not never did. It will use and control the guitar correctly but will not work for Workbench. For original Variax a HD500 will work for Workbench but not the HD500X. You will need the USB interface. Sold as "Variax Workbench". The software is free but the USB interface thing is not. Comes in around $100.

Sorry my workbench worked on the JTV 89f with no issues. I was just originally asking the question which leesteel correctly answered. Maybe the Java that he pointed out for yours?

Jtv69 HD Firmware
Palico replied to arverutledal's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I just rolled back to the newest non-2.0 version. I think I might try going back to 1.71 as you did tonight. The acoustics in 1.9 your right are not great although I find them workable. -
Variax don't like Recharable Batteries.
Palico replied to Palico's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Sorry I needed to mark this as solved. The problem was a broken battery holder. It was replaced and then the rechargeable worked properly. -
No spring. It stays put and if you have it set to volume pedal or to the amps volume control then it stays when the patch changes moves too.

Jtv69 HD Firmware
Palico replied to arverutledal's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Not sure who this was directed at. IMO, No. I think they tried to improve it, resuliting in more sensitivite Peizos. The problem with Peizos are each one of them is different. This is why I think some have sent multiple guitars back before finding the one they were satisfied with. On my guitar I think 2 particular peizos are really sensitive on certain notes. I adjusted the output etc... to compensate but none of those really solved the problem. Even purchased some new peizos directly and replaced one, which help but still didn't completely solve it. All this was lot of work for what is already an expensive guitar. Had I not loved the built of the instrument itself so much I would have likely sent it back and when a different route with it. I expect the next generation of Variax's will likely be Yamaha builds, which exactly why I made the jump from a old 500 to JTV. Yamaha makes a really good instrument but I don't think it will be on par with a Tyler design. Personally I didn't want to go the Ibanez route because it seems every shredder has one. I wanted something a bit different but in the same vein, and the flexability of the Variax is addicting even if it's not perfect. -
Jtv69 HD Firmware

I'm using 1.9 for the same reason. The new ones sound very thin on my 89F, so you are not alone in that. When I tried 2.21 though I had not issues other than the tone sucked. -
Customized by Variax 89F looks.
Palico replied to Palico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yep same one. I was suprised at how well it turned out. Time will see how they hold up. I had not seen them before. I looked at this company too but decided I didn't want to cover the entire body. The headstock doesn't bother me too much althought I agree it's ugly. -
I love my Variax but the 89f only coming in Red and Black it's been pretty plain looking guitar. Recently found way to dress it up. These are very thin vinyl that are designed to appears like Inlay's. Some might think's a it's a bit cheese solution but I like it. And surprisingly the ones on fret board are thin enough I don't feel them under my fingers when I play. The company can be found on the net, not listing here just in case it would cause a policy problem being this is a Line 6 board.

+1. The funny thing with his amp is it a nice ring and smoothness sound using his Les Paul. On the Variax Mags it was kind of bright. Really good note definition but just no trail and really dry sounding. I probably should have used LP model on my Variax but was running low on battery as was concerned making sure I had enough for a song or 2 where i use the alternate tuning capability of the Variax.

Oh yea forgot about the DT Edit. And yea I agree. Any amp on Topology I is quite. Even the Soloando ones. Not sure why they made it that much quieter than the others cause like you said a real Fender twin has 3 volume settings, off, loud and louder!

When and played at a Jam tonight. At these we get a bunch of musicians from local bands and just get together and play random covers, maybe some of the band originals etc.... over all a good time just for fun, just bring a guitar and use the host's rig. So I haven't been in a long time. The host guitarist, really great guy, plays a Marshall Half Stack (I think it's one of the non-tube Marshalls) and Gibson Les Paul. I hook in my variax and go. Second I hit two notes, I was wishing for my DT. Just lacks the luster and vibe. Yep I'm spoiled.

Dream Rig Newbie Questions
Palico replied to goldenretriever's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
1) Sorry don't know. Hopefully one of the others on here will come along with the answer to that. 2) Over the L6 Link the DT only uses Amp A. For dual-amp I'm pretty sure it's summing them together and sending that. The Amp is mono so any left/right stereo field is more for general tone, you don't really have Stereo on a single DT. Of course if you had 2 DTs then you can get true Stereo. Mutting channel A will cause the DT to flip to Amp B, which will be whatever Amp B was configured on the Amp for. Not quite sure why L6 designed that way but is what it is. There is trick around that. On the mixer you can take Channel A output to zero and the DT will stay on Amp A then. 3)Nope. Althought it would have been nice for the dual amps patches to use the knobs of each to control each on the Pod. But just wasn't designed for it. -
If your using POD HD unit with the DT you could change the topology and still use the Twin amp model. Not sure how it would sound but the point of the rig is that you can set it anyway you want, even setups that never really existed. No rules the end resulting tone is all that really matters.
-
Why, I don't know but yea topology I is quieter than the rest by quite a bit. So your amp is working properly.

Well that's Line 6's doing not really Sweetwater. But I'm guessing somebody in sales was smart enough to figure out they were going to have a hard time selling a small piece of plastic interface for that price point. FYI on the old Variax 300,500,600,700, etc... the USB interface didn't come with the guitar. So if you wanted the workbench capability you had to buy that or buy a POD Live unit.
-
The only thing I see listed on Sweetwater is the "Line 6 Variax Workbench" which is not actually the HD version. What they are selling is the old USB interface. It comes packaged with the software CD but the USB interface hardware is what you are actually buying, expensive for small piece of plastic huh?. JTV's with firmware 2.0 and up can interface across a POD HD500(x) for Workbench and use Workbench HD. JTV with firmware below that have to use the USB interface (that is JTV not older Variax's) and use just Workbench (non-HD version). If your looking at buying JTV, don't buy this. The software is FREE. The hardware interface is not. As mentioned the new USB interface comes with new JTV guitars. I would make sure to get it if you gettting a used one. I looked around and did not see the new JTV USB inteface sold individually. Not sure if the old USB hardware interface would work with a JTV, but I suspect it would.

DT-50 controlled by POD HD500X
Palico replied to pedromen's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Supposed to? Yes reality? you be the judge... Set the POD to a Park 75, no effects all default settings. That should be voicing II on the DT, if you have not changed any of the other configuration (class, penatote,etc...). I've seen several post here where others report that they think it sounds different on each. The POD has some configurations for the impedance of the guitar input. I'm not sure what the DT's default impedance is. Others have mentioned something about an internal boost that is not over the L6 link as well. I use a DT25 and POD HD500x. Although I just tweak the entire rig to fit my taste and never really worried about if one was slightly better than the other. The dream rig full flexibility I'm not willing to give up for slight increase tonal response. But if you are more of a analog type and you are probably just going to use one or two amp models in a performance then the DT with analog pedals could be good option as well. -
DT-50 controlled by POD HD500X
Palico replied to pedromen's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
1) Yes the signal is run though an A/D converter. However; the same is should be true for the DT amp too. The preamp section of of the DT is digital. The DT is not a pure tube amp, it's a hot-rod hybrid. Only the power amp side is analog. Logically the same amp emulation on the POD with the same exact settings over the DT link should be exactly the same as the DT stand alone. But several people such as your self reported finding similar as you that they thing the DT sounds better stand alone. I honestly would look at the input impedance setting on the POD. I often wonder if that is different on the POD where its is configurable vs. the DT Standalone. 2 &3) Yes. You could use the 4 cable method and set the POD to no Amp. Then it would only add effects from the POD. You lose the integration, but if you don't feel need it then it would work the same way as hooking up the pod to any good amp. -
Dang I had the same issue on my X3 as well. I never figured out what caused it. I always thought it was voltage issue as most of the outdoor shows always seem to have crappy wiring jobs. But that makes perfect sense as it only occurred every once in a while. As for the orginal poster, I have never had a issue with heat on the HD but I've most of the venues I play now are inside at night.

Anybody get it yet to find out if Workbench still works on Windows 10? I know it works on Windows 8.1 but deciding if I will go for the free upgrade (recent new machine) or not. I know workbench (old version) is likely out of support now, but hoping to use it a bit longer yet.
-
Hmm wonder if you could mix the magnetic pickups on the JTV with an alternate tuning on the JTV to create it?
-
I'm use a DT25 amp not a FRFR. And especially with magnetic pickups it's not hard to create, just add enough gain and stand close the amp. It does take enough volume to get there. As for controllable, that is mostly technique with rolling the palm on bridge just right, and really depends on your definition of controllable as well. For me that's a feedback howl of sorts that I can use finger and palm muting to get the sound and then play with the tremolo on the guitar to make the harmonic dive and wobble around a bit. Typically used at the end of the song when my drummer is rolling around going a bit nuts on the drums.

DT25 instead of my tube amp is not delivering
Palico replied to pol2711's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I don't have patches that I know will work for you. What I can say is in my experience with the POD units starting with the XT thought the versions to the HD500x and a dream rig is they are sensitive to the amp and even guitar you hooking to the them. So patches that where made hooked tot he Gigmaster would likely not work as well on anything else. I keep separate patches for my DT25 than I do for using the POD direct or even recording direct. As for customtone I've had the same experience, often what is upload just don't seem to work for my rig or the way I play. I do find Customtone as been a great way to learn tricks thought. I've download some patches where, they really did not work for me but the author would add an effect in a way I never thought of. So I modify the patch or more likely create a new one but use the effect in a similar manner, acheving the one part of the patch I might have really like but dialing the rest more out to fit me and my rig better.
