JTV VDI-USB adapter not compatible with the Standard Variax?
silverhead replied to Euripide's topic in Variax Standard
Just to be sure, you’re using the Workbench HD program (compatible with the Variax Standard) and not the original Variax Workbench program (incompatible) right? -
You can’t. There’s nothing to ‘fix’ because there’s nothing broken. A Snapshot does not itself have two different sets of values. Each snapshot represents a single specification of block on/off states and parameter values for the preset. There are 8 such specifications in every preset, and exactly 1 of them is active at any time. The other 7 are inactive. You can’t do what you want to do. Final answer.

You can’t have more than 8 snapshots in any preset. That’s a hard limit. You might find that you can arrange your song and playing to tolerate a preset change at some point, giving you 8 more snapshots in the other preset. You will need to find a place in the song to allow a few milliseconds of audio dropout as the preset changes.

Variax 300 some models "modulating"
silverhead replied to shaversack's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
This could indicate one or more failing or dirty piezo pickups. First I would try loosening the strings and carefully removing any dust or grit from the pickups in the saddles. Simply blowing on them might work. It could also simply be firmware corruption. Use the Variax Workbench program to save all your current models/presets. Then use Line 6 Monkey to reinstall the latest firmware, and then Workbench again to restore your saved models. If the problem persists it’s likely that you’ll need to get the pickups replaced. -
Yes you can do that. You can assign the Bypass (On/Off) feature, and remove the assignment, of any block to any footswitch. You can also have the multiple blocks controlled by a single footswitch, and you can customize the text that appears for any footswitch. Full details of all related capabilities can be found in the Bypass Assign chapter of the manual. https://line6.com/support/manuals/helixlt

It sounds unlikely to me that firmware is the issue. I think it’s likely hardware, which is essentially what the help desk said. However, there’s no harm in reinstalling the firmware (unless you don’t follow the instructions). Use HX Edit to make backups first, then use Line 6 Updater to perform the update. Make sure HX Edit is not running when you launch Updater.

Glad to hear it. Enjoy!

I believe it’s because having the device’s master volume knob at max delivers the cleanest signal downstream, in terms of signal-to-noise ratio. The lower it is, the more ‘noise’ will be introduced in the signal if the receiving device has to compensate by increasing input gain. However, I have never really noticed that to be an issue. I typically have it around 12:00 on my Helix Rack and have always received an apparently clean and strong signal at my mixer or speakers. I say do what works for you.

First, make sure that you are not just hearing the physical standard tuning from the string vibrations. They can be heard easily unless your amp is really loud and are often interpreted as a Variax problem, which they are not. Make a recording if you can, or use closed headphones. The acoustic vibrations will not be recorded and will be inhibited by the headphones. After eliminating that possibility, another possibility is that your firmware may have become corrupted. Try using Workbench HD to back up your current banks/models (bundle), then run Line 6 Monkey to reinstall the Variax firmware, then use Workbench HD again to restore your bundle.

Check this document to find the different reset procedures for the HX FX. Choose the option that you want to restore the factory presets and/or other things.

Monkey is the correct program to update the Toneport; Line 6 Updater is for more recent devices. The Monkey window you attached shows that Monkey thinks your Toneport is not connected. What happens if you hit the Connect to Device button just above the picture of the monkey? -
Right-Click on any block in any Preset in HX Edit and you will se the option to Clear All Blocks. You can also Save As Favorite using the 5-pointed star symbol that appears in the top right corner of the Cab Edit panel.

With no FX Loop on your amp you can’t use the 4CM so you are always going to be feeding the HX device output into your physical preamp section. You still haven’t told us which Helix device you have. It matters if it has amp/cab modeling because then you need to manage feeding one (modeled) amp output into a second (physical) amp. That generally won’t sound good.

Other than trying to apply the basic theory outlined above, you're really just left with trial and error. Throw stuff against the wall and see if anything sticks. Just like 'spices' when cooking, you either know what you're doing or you throw random stuff in and see how it tastes. You speak of soloing. When learning to solo did you learn scales and even intervals or did you just fly at it? Same choice here. It might be worth studying the above a bit, and experiment. It matters whether you are in a major or minor key.

A recent firmware update (can’t recall what version) introduced a new feature in Command Centre that allows you to assign any footswitch to recall a snapshot while in Stomp mode. You may be seeing this behaviour, unfamiliar to you. Your Helix remains in Stomp mode although a snapshot footswitch is available. Check that out, then return here if there’s still any problem or confusion.

Leave the OS selection field at - Choose OS -. You will be presented with v3.61, identified as compatible with Ventura.
-
I haven’t experienced (or at least haven’t noticed) your issue with dragging/dropping in v3.61. It works the same as in v3.50 as far as as I know. Perhaps reinstall HX Edit v3.61? There is a Clear All Bocks option in any preset. From the manual: Clearing All Blocks Clearing all blocks removes all processing blocks (including the Looper) and resets both Path 1 and 2 to serial. It does not affect Path 1A or Path 2A Input and Output blocks, nor does it affect the “Command Center” 1. Press ACTION. 2. Press Knob 4 (Clear All Blocks). 3. Press Knob 6 (OK).

It would help to know a few things before answering: - What Helix device are you using? - Does your amp head have an FX Loop? - How, exactly, are your devices connected? Provide cabling/routing details. - If your Helix device has amp/cab modeling, are your presets designed so that you avoid using two preamps or two cabs at a time (both modeled and physical simultaneously)?
-
I don’t understand. Can you not copy/paste your ‘base’ sound snapshot to a new snapshot location before making any changes, then editing the pasted snapshot? Also, make sure you understand the Snapshot Edits global setting, and the difference between the Recall and Discard settings.

For the Tuner LED a see Global Settings -> Displays, knob 2. To access Global Settings (quoting from the manual): 1. Press <PAGE and PAGE> together to open the Menu. 2. Press PAGE> and then press Knob 2 (Global Settings). 3. Turn the Upper Knob to select one of the six submenus. If necessary, press PAGE to view more parameters.
