moving presets/setlists from Stomp to StompXL messes snapshots...
silverhead replied to vincentm77's topic in Helix
Solving this would require a firmware update. The official way for users to provide feature requests to Line 6 product managers and developers is to use Ideascale. Set up an account, find the Line 6 area, and make your request. -
Yes you can record guitar and vocals simultaneously on separate tracks (assuming your recording program supports this. Most do). And yes, you can send the outputs to both your Evolve system and your studio monitors. Also, you can record the dry unprocessed guitar and mic signals for later processing using plugins like Helix Native. You may be entitled to a discount on Helix Native with your purchase of the Helix Floor device. Ask Sweetwater if it is a brand new device (discount available) or a used device (previous owner may have used the discount). Preset files are transferable between Helix Floor and Helix Native so you can bring the exact same tone from your studio to the open mic stage.

There's no direct way to get a text file that lists only the preset names. But there is a way to get them in a format you can work with. In HX Edit under the File menu select Extract Files From Backup... This will open a dialog where you can select the setlist(s) whose presets you want. Of course you may need to Create Backup... first. The Preset files will be exported to a folder, one folder per setlist. In that folder will be the set of preset files listed in order of preset#. The format of each filename is 'Presetxxx-<presetname>.hlx'. That in itself may be all you need. If you want to tidy it up you're into PC or MAC folder manipulations.

Glad it’s sorted out. Thanks for posting the solution; good for others to know.

…. and your answer to the above…???

Using the HX Stomp tuner with 2 seperate instruments connected
silverhead replied to rw_groesbeck's topic in Helix
Well, it is what it is. There's no setting or workaround as far as I know. The Tuner is designed to work with the L/MONO input. Frankly I'm surprised the tuner is receiving any signal at the R Input. -
Using the HX Stomp tuner with 2 seperate instruments connected
silverhead replied to rw_groesbeck's topic in Helix
As already stated the tuner input is not assignable on the HX stomp. Preset configuration is irrelevant. However, I’m not clear on the issue. If the tuner is behaving as you describe in the quoted statement above then your guitarist should be able to tune either instrument. Presumably she’s not trying to tune both guitars at once. Whichever one she’s playing should be tuneable. Or do I misunderstand? -
Please describe your cabling setup exactly. Sometimes users believe they are properly connected when in fact they are not. Does that amp have an FX Loop? Also, where in the signal chain are your modulation, delay, reverb etc. blocks? Pre or post FX Loop block?
-
Try not using the POD Go Edit program, just temporarily for troubleshooting. Play along to your backing tracks as normal. Do the dropouts still occur? The answer to that will inform next steps.
-
Yes that’s possible. It’s even made simple by the fact that the Helix Rack has a front panel button that provides immediate access to the controls for the amp in each preset. You then use the front panel knobs to dial in the usual parameters including Drive, Bass, Treble, etc. If that’s all you want to do I think you’re severely limiting yourself though. Are you planning to use some FX as well in various presets (Overdrive, compressor, delay, reverb, …)? If so, you can use the front panel knobs to control the parameters of these blocks as well. You simply need to select the FX block in the signal chain display and its controls appear. Tweak away! Finally, I strongly suggest you get the Helix Control unit as well. This provides you with a visual display of preset information and enables you to use footswitches rather than your hands to easily navigate among your presets, turn FX blocks on/off without interrupting your playing, use Snapshots (a deep dive that you will eventually want to do), and more.

Request: Can you treat the tuner as a Block within Presets?
silverhead replied to Goyen's topic in Helix
Perhaps I misunderstand your suggestion. Would you have to perform Step 2 in all presets so that your tuner is always available? It may work but what is the actual benefit? There’s already a switch assigned to the Tuner. I guess the saving with your suggestion would be that you don’t have to hold down the switch for a couple of seconds. Sounds cumbersome to me, and not worth the downside - giving up a footswitch in all presets that is assignable to other purposes. -
Also try increasing the Amp Bias parameter value.

What’s your audio interface? Any reason you need to use that as opposed to using the HD500X itself as the audio interface? What configurations have you tried? Are there specific results that you want?
-
Update failures are usually caused by people not following the installation instructions. However your description suggests that you are knowledgeable about the correct procedures and have tried all the usual recovery procedures. At this point I would open a support ticket.

I assume you are properly assigning all relevant parameters to the Snapshot controller. In particular in your case the FX blocks’ Bypass parameter needs to be assigned. Beyond that, in Global Settings -> Preferences there is a parameter called Snapshot Edits. It controls whether or not changes you make to any Snapshot are saved when you leave the Snapshot but remain in the Preset. If it is set to Discard then changes are lost as soon as you switch to another Snapshot. When set to Recall all changes you made to all Snapshots while editing within the preset are saved when you Save the preset. Sounds like yours may be set to Discard; change it to Recall.

Here’s a snip from the manual pg 7 discussing the rear panel hardware I/O, confirming your note re: design. I suspect your answer is (b) but like you I can’t test it. For external footswitches, the momentary (unlatched) type should be used.

hd500x to my interface?
silverhead replied to stefanexc's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Make sure your setup is: - HD500X analog outputs connected to Scarlett analog inputs - HD500X preset’s Outputs setting includes hardware outputs connected to Scarlett - monitors connected to Scarlett outputs -

The Helix manual has a section called Command Centre that provides this info on the Helix side of the MIDI connection. But you will also have to configure your DAW’s VST Live (plugin?) to recognize Helix as a MIDI device. And depending on what you are trying to accomplish, perhaps create a MIDI Automation track in your DAW project.

No.

Variax Standard Compatibility for Workbench and Monterey
silverhead replied to DaveSoreff's topic in Variax Standard
Variax Standard requires Workbench HD. The compatibility questions should be answered here: … or here… -
The difference in tone that you heard is almost certainly a result of different equipment you were using in your home vs. store environment. It’s been confirmed numerous times that Helix Native and Helix devices, including the LT, are virtually indistinguishable when the same equipment and preset is used in each. It’s also very unlikely that a firmware update is responsible. So yes, you can be confident Helix LT will give you the same tone as Helix Native using the same external equipment. At least one bit of equipment was different and that could be a huge factor: the audio interface/soundcard. The Helix LT uses a different audio ‘card’ than your Tascam. This alone could cause a significant change in tone. Other relevant factors to consider include your guitar, headphones/monitors, and LT Global Settings. Did you bring and use your guitar in the store? Were you listening through exactly the same headphones or studio monitors? Also, was the Global EQ being used on the store’s LT?
