I'm using Tung Sol at the moment and they sound great. I have a spare pair but I hope they hold out a while

Since the last update of the POD HD500X I put Master between 1 and 2 o' clock. I then use the maser on the POD to Get the overall volume I need. For leveling the patches out I use different approaches: Channel Volume, Mixer, Effects Loop I tend to use the mixer when on stage or in the rehearsal room because you can use the small knobs. With these you can simply take the volume down or up a bit without having to worry about where the knob is set. With the channel volume you can get a nasty surprise when you want to adjust the volume of a patch with say a JCM800 after adjusting the volume of a patch with a Super O. As soon as you touch the knob the CJM800 patch volume will jump to full volume and believe me that's no fun :D Actually I wish all the knobs worked like this. oh well.

New Dt25 - Volume Too Low Or Something Wrong?
talwilkins replied to the29band's topic in DT50 / DT25
Yeas, that's another thing. On the Fender models the Drive knob works more as an extra volume knob and doesn't give any distortion to speak of (I think). This is because the original amps don't have a drive knob. -
New Dt25 - Volume Too Low Or Something Wrong?

I haven't tried these settinings on my DT25 but to me it looks OK. What you need to understand is that the volume knob is like the channel volume on the POD HD. This changes the volume without changing the tone. The different Amp sims on the DT have very different volume levels ans you can use the volume knob to even things out. Voicing 1 is a Fender Twin I think (maybe a deluxe). Voicing 4 is a Mesa Boogie which is way louder than the Fender (I believe this to be the case in real life as well), With voicing one you would typically set the volume knob to full position. If you would then have voicing 4 on channel B you would probably have the volume knob there below 50% to match the volume of channel 1. -
I have the Line6 Drive on permanently with Drive on or near zero. This is to have a mono effect in that position at all times. You can use any mono effect. A noise gate will do without coloring the sound. I use the Line6 drive because I like how it colors the tone (sort of like an EQ). Of course you could also toggle the effects, like you suggested. Any way, that leaves 4 effects for the 4 footswitches in my case. The effects loop is indeed for external effects. I have a Zoom G5 in there for delays, Exciter, EQ and boost (tube).

I have been struggling to get my DT-25 HD500X combination sound satisfactory to my taste for a long time. Especially the high gain tones just didn't come out well at the rehearsals at high volume. At home they sounded great. They even sounded good without the band at high volume. As soon as I played with the band it just didn't cut through and sounded like mud or just plain screetching noise. A few months ago I made a breakthrough with the help of some double cab patches I downloaded a long time ago. Now the high gain tones are fantastic IMO! Now I make all my DT patches in a similar way. Just remember, you have to have some mono effect in front of the signal split turned on. This could also be a noise gate for instance (I use the Vintage Pre for my clean tone). What makes this really great is that you can blend the sounds of different amps/mics/cabs. For recording I make similar patches with full amps. Using this setup also seems to solve the phasing problem for me.

Dt-25 Effects Loop Bypassed When Using Xlr Out?
talwilkins replied to tankaviator's topic in DT50 / DT25
Sorry, my bad. I am using the POD and of course have the ZOOM in its effects loop not the DT's  -
Interesting. I'm thinking of getting me a Lex Bos Superdrive pedal. They are totally amazing!

Dt-25 Effects Loop Bypassed When Using Xlr Out?

Just recorded something via XLR in Low Volume Mode and in Standby. I have a ZOOM G5 in the effects loop. The effects from the ZOOM were part of the signal, no doubt about it. -
So, how is the POD reacting to the distortion pedals in front of it? No clipping? What amp models do you use?

I have a Zoom G5 in the HD loop. Works really great! The tube boost is really sweat.

Yes, I can imagine. The nice thing about this concept is that more and more people would create great tones and make them available. Then more and more people would vote on the quality of the tone. Theoretically the tones will become better and better through time. It's a social media type arrangement. Actually quite interesting. I'm curious how it will evolve.

Yes thanks! I didn't realise the Lows, Highs and Focus settings are absent in Combo PWR AMP mode, my bad :)

I think Line6 thinks it's a "reinvention" because of the possibility to "easily" find the tone for a certain song via internet. That is in a way a pretty cool innovation. Technically there isn't much revolutionary going on, it;s just the way the technologies are implemented and integrated. Although I am pretty disappointed they didn't deliver something cool for my purposes, I don't fail to see that they came up with something cool. Stupid they didn't have an Android app ready yet. I am still pretty curious what else is coming our way. In the meantime I'm very happy with my POD HD500 + DT-25

Where did you get the information that those settings don't work through L6-Link? I'm not saying you're wrong, in fact it seems to me you are correct. I'm just wondering where you found that info. I find it a bit strange that the manual doesn't say anything toward that end. It does say the mode settings affects the signal going through L6-Link and since the other parameters are on the same page I assumed they would too. I am connecting through L6-Link, by the way
-
Like I said, I tried them but didn't really hear much difference. For instance: Lows from -50 to flat didn't do much as far as I could hear. I'm wondering what your experience is with these settings.
-
I used Samplitude for a long time. Every now and then I would try some others but allways ended up staying with Samplitude. The only thing i really didn't like about it was the way it handles the inputs and outputs. I was often getting unexpected results and it didn't seem consistent somehow. Now I have switched to Reaper which I really like a lot. The interface isn't as fancy all the time but I got used to it. No inconsistencies and it does exactly what I expect it to! I also liked Sonor but still came back to Samplitude from that one.

On the Anderton's review the Line6 guy says it's coming soon.
-
Ok, I think you misunderstood. I'm talking about the Lows, Highs and Focus settings on the Output page in System Settings (where you can set the POD to Studio/direct, Combo Front etc.)
-
I tried turning the lows from -50 to flat while connected to my Dt25 but I can't say I heard much happening. The same happened with the highs. I could hear some difference when changing the focus but it was very little, much less than I would expect. Has anybody ever fiddled with these setting? What are your experiences.?
-
I agree totally
-
It's alternating current, there is no polarity. The 3rd prong, when present is for earth. It would have been nice if the POD was earthed, but it isn't
-
Has anyone here actually watched the Anderton's review? The Guy clearly states that an Android version of the app is on it's way. Yes, I agree Line 6 should have had it ready at launch but hey that's the way thing go sometimes. It probably wasn't ready in time for the NAMM show, probably due to the time it takes programming around all the bugs in Android (no I'm defenitly not an Apple fan, wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole). Just stop fussing about it and wait for the Android app, it's coming.
